The mandatory carbon reduction guidelines and regulations in Indonesia encourage all industrial sectors particularly the petroleum industry to implement decarbonization programs by systematically reducing carbon emissions as part of climate action. Unlike existing carbon emission studies in the petroleum industry, the literature lacks studies on the decarbonization patterns. In addition, the effectiveness of carbon mitigation in the upstream oil and gas field has not been studied so far. This study developed short panel data models to understand the current decarbonization efforts and patterns during 2015–2018. The results indicate that the considered variables are significantly impactful in carbon reduction with different coefficient patterns. It is suggested to associate decarbonization with oil and gas production and highlight energy efficiency optimization to stabilize production. The impact of financial, human, and administrative resources on the supporting facility is critical for executing sustainable carbon mitigation projects. © 2024 The Authors

Exposing cancer cells to alternating electric fields of 100-300 kHz frequency and 1-4 V/cm strength has been shown to significantly reduce cancer growth in cell culture and in human patients. This form of anti-cancer therapy is more commonly referred to as tumor treating fields (TTFields), a novel treatment modality that has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in patients with glioblastoma and malignant pleural mesothelioma. Pivotal trials in other solid organ cancer trials are underway. In regards to overall survival, TTFields alone is comparable to chemotherapy alone in recurrent glioblastoma. However, when combined with adjuvant chemotherapy, TTFields prolong median survival by 4.9 months in newly-diagnosed glioblastoma. TTFields hold promise as a therapeutic approach to numerous solid organ cancers. This review summarizes the current status of TTFields research at the preclinical level, highlighting recent aspects of a relatively complex working hypothesis. In addition, we point out the gaps between limited preclinical in vivo studies and the available clinical data. To date, no customized system for TTFields delivery in rodent models of glioblastoma has been presented. We aim to motivate the expansion of TTFields preclinical research and facilitate the availability of suitable hardware, to ultimately improve outcomes in patients with cancer. © 2022 The Authors

Pain management is one of the important treatments of cancer patients. This study aims to develop a classifier of chronic cancer pain patients from their brain metabolic activity measured by FDG-PET. We compared FDG-PET brain images of 74 painful and 29 painless cancer patients to clarify the brain activity specific to chronic pain of cancer. Using the detected brain activity pattern, we further developed a classifier that determines the presence or absence of chronic pain from PET brain images by machine learning methods. The painful cancer patients showed significantly increased activity in the amygdala, hippocampus, and decreased activity in the cingulate gyrus and precuneus (p © 2021, Japan Soc. of Med. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to locate and detect moving pedestrians in a video. Our proposed method first locates the region of interest (ROI) using a background subtraction algorithm based on guided filtering. This novel background subtraction algorithm allows our method to also filter unexpected noises at the same time, which could benefit the performance of our proposed method. Subsequently, the pedestrians are detected using YOLOv3 within the provided ROI. Our experiments showed that the proposed method has a competitive performance in the CDNET2014 dataset with a fast-processing time. © 2021 IEEE.

The mechanism of chronic cancer pain has yet fully elucidated even though nearly 80% of cancer patients suffer from chronic pain. We investigated the difference in brain activities between painful and painless cancer patients from 103 FDG-PET brain images of the head-neck or esophageal cancer patients. Painful cancer patients showed enhanced activity in the bilateral amygdala, hippocampus, and pons, and inhibited activity in the precuneus and middle cingulate gyrus relative to the painless patients. The metabolic connectivity related to the above regions showed a significant relationship with brain regions associated with the default mode network (DMN) in the painful cancer patients, while no significant metabolic connectivity to the DMN regions was found in the painless patients. These results indicate that in cancer pain patients, chronic pain may increase limbic system activity and affect the DMN, leading to changes in the cognition of pain and visceral sensation. © 2021, Japan Soc. of Med. Multi-wavelength edge detection based on nonlocal multilayer GaAs–AlAs thin films

We demonstrate a compact multilayer GaAs–AlAs structure for passive optical edge detection at multiple wavelengths. Through the inverse design of the layer thicknesses, this structure manipulates spatial frequency components of an incoming wavefront, selectively reflecting high-frequency features while suppressing low-frequency intensity variations. Simulations reveal a reflectance transition from minimal to near-total as a function of numerical aperture, a property leveraged for enhancing edge contrast in optical imaging. For the first time, to our knowledge, we utilize molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to fabricate edge detection devices, ensuring structural fidelity. Material characterization confirms high-quality interfaces, precise thickness control, and excellent uniformity, validating the suitability of MBE for this application. Experimental angle-resolved reflectance measurements closely align with theoretical predictions, demonstrating the feasibility of this approach for real-time, hardware-based optical image processing. The proposed design automatically works for at least two wavelengths and can be readily extended to operate at multiple wavelengths simultaneously. This work opens new possibilities for employing multilayer interference structures in high-performance optical imaging and real-time signal processing.

This paper proposes voltage balance control for 3-level PWM rectifier using a space vector modulation of a matrix converter. When space vector modulation of matrix converter is applied to 3-level PWM rectifier, it can keep balanced DC-link voltage of 3-level PWM rectifier. However, when the DC-link voltage unbalance occurs, SVM of matrix converter cannot balance the DC-link voltage. In this paper, phase angle of input current reference is generated by PI controller in order to keep the phase angle of DC-link voltage to $\pi /6$ rad. The proposed control can adapt not only voltage unbalance, but also a load unbalance. The validity of the proposed control is demonstrated by the simulation results.
