This paper addresses the reference tracking control problem for Medical Cyber-Physical Systems (MCPS). The control theory is employed to guarantee the suitable concentration of drugs in the body of patients to guarantee a safe treatment. The MCPS is modeled as a switched system, and the modes consider the different scenarios for the problem. A discrete-time model is utilized for the pharmacokinetic process, and the zero input control strategy is employed to design state-feedback controllers with a guaranteed exponential convergence rate. A numerical experiment is presented to illustrate the validity and effectiveness of our method.

Deep learning has become the method of choice to tackle real-world problems in different domains, partly because of its ability to learn from data and achieve impressive performance on a wide range of applications. However, its success usually relies on two assumptions: (i) vast troves of labeled datasets are required for accurate model fitting, and (ii) training and testing data are independent and identically distributed. Its performance on unseen target domains, thus, is not guaranteed, especially when encountering out-of-distribution data at the adaptation stage. The performance drop on data in a target domain is a critical problem in deploying deep neural networks that are successfully trained on data in a source domain. Unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) is proposed to counter this, by leveraging both labeled source domain data and unlabeled target domain data to carry out various tasks in the target domain. UDA has yielded promising results on natural image processing, video analysis, natural language processing, time-series data analysis, medical image analysis, etc. In this review, as a rapidly evolving topic, we provide a systematic comparison of its methods and applications. In addition, the connection of UDA with its closely related tasks, e.g., domain generalization and out-of-distribution detection, has also been discussed. As part of the 2023 PhysioNet Challenge, our team FINDING_MEMO utilized Transformer to predict outcomes using patient EEG data since it excels at dealing with sequential data like EEG. We mainly used the Transformer encoder block's multi-head self-attention to generate representations from the input and leverage several hidden layers to form the final prediction. Using the latest EEG from every patient, our team achieved the challenge score of 0.42 with the hidden validation set (ranked 36th out of 73 invited teams) and obtained a result of 0.37 (ranked 29th out of 36 qualified teams). Our results show a consistent performance across varying EEG recording durations in both the validation and test set. Our team also had the second-best score when evaluated, with only 12 hours of available recordings in the test set. Such promising results showcase the models' generalizability and clinical potential in predicting outcomes for comatose patients, especially for limited available EEG recordings.

Adaptive Contextual Caching for Mobile Edge Large Language Model Service

Mobile edge Large Language Model (LLM) deployments face inherent constraints, such as limited computational resources and network bandwidth. Although Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) mitigates some challenges by integrating external knowledge bases, inefficient cache management can still result in high retrieval latency and frequent cache updates. To address these issues, we propose an Adaptive Contextual Caching (ACC) framework that anticipates user needs by proactively caching semantically relevant data for mobile-edge LLMs. ACC utilizes a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) module to refine cache replacement policies, balancing user context, document similarity, and the overhead associated with cache misses. Experimental results demonstrate that ACC increases cache hit rates to over 80% after only 11 training episodes, outperforming FIFO, LRU, and semantic-only caching while reducing retrieval latency by up to 40%. In particular, ACC also reduces local caching overhead (i.e., the cost of updating the cache when a miss occurs) by as much as 55%, enabling scalable, low-latency LLM services in resource-constrained edge environments. © 2025, CC BY.

The use of non-intrusive acoustic flow meters for residential applications has been little explored. This work presents the development of a non-intrusive acoustic instrument for low water flow rates measured at a PVC pipe knee. A chest piece of stethoscope with an electret microphone was used, and 10 collection cycles were performed, in a range of 16 to 488 liters/hour (lph). The results show that there is a quadratic relationship between the standard deviation of the acoustic signal and the water flow, and the existence of a transition region is predicted. Furthermore, there was an exponential relationship between the standard deviation of the detail coefficients of the Wavelet Transform and the energy of the approximation coefficients with the fluidic flow. Thus, as far as we know, this is the first time that a correlation between the acoustic noise generated by a low flow of water on a residential scale is presented. This approach represents a potential alternative for monitoring water consumption at specific points in a residence, which, in turn, enables the identification of user patterns and contributes to the management of the distribution of water resources in a given location. © 2022, The Authors. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have attracted a lot of research attention because of their high mobility and low cost in serving as temporary aerial base stations (BSs) and providing high data rates for next-generation communication networks. To protect user privacy while avoiding detection by a warden, we investigate a jammer-aided UAV covert communication system, which aims to maximize the user's covert rate with optimized transmit and jamming power. The UAV is equipped with multi-antennas to serve multi-users simultaneously and enhance the Quality of Service. By considering the general composite fading and shadowing channel models, we derive the exact probability density (PDF) and cumulative distribution functions (CDF) of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). The obtained PDF and CDF are used to derive the closed-form expressions for detection error probability and covert rate. Furthermore, the covert rate maximization problem is formulated as a Nash bargaining game, and the Nash bargaining solution (NBS) is introduced to investigate the negotiation among users. To solve the NBS, we propose two algorithms, i.e., particle swarm optimization-based and joint two-stage power allocation algorithms, to achieve covertness and high data rates under the warden's optimal detection threshold. All formulated problems are proven to be convex, and the complexity is analyzed. The numerical results are presented to verify the theoretical performance analysis and show the effectiveness and success of achieving the covert communication of our algorithms. © 2022, CC BY.

In HV equipment, the most critical and valuable components used is transformers. Power transformers should go through standard diagnostic tests to identify deterioration or to avoid the emergence of defects that might possibly cause severe failure. Frequency Response Analysis already proven to be a promising tool in diagnostic techniques that make use of this understanding to find such changes. FRA has so far been used to detect deformation in transformers by observing changes in the frequency response curve, despite a limited understanding of what caused the changes in the initial case. Several FRA methods have been implemented recently all around the world, primarily for transformer deformation detection and diagnosis. Nonetheless, there is now an increasing amount of research focused on determining specifically the type and degree of deformation in a transformer by looking at its FRA response curve. It is very important to refer to the guidance given in the recently published IEC, IEEE, SPLN, and CIGRE standards to ensure the accuracy of the analysis of the frequency response results. An approach for transformer diagnostics is discussed in this research by doing a comparative analysis with four study cases related to various physical phenomena and examining the cross-combined between standards and field FRA results. Four FRA measurement cases are taken from the experience in PLN, namely: Tayan (water contamination), Sanggau (transformers relocation), Sambas (rebuilding transformer foundation), and Cianjur (earthquake). The evaluation results indicate that the IEEE and IEC diagnostic standards have an assessment that is closest to the actual condition that is influenced by variations in wide band frequency measurement.

This data-driven work aims to analyze and classify the spatiotemporal distribution of all Brazilian states considering data so diverse as the number of Covid-19 cases,deaths,confirmed cases per 100 k inhabitants,mortality per 100 k inhabitants and case fatality rates as health *** also considered population,area and population density as geographic ***,GDP and HDI were taken into account as economic and social *** this task data were collected from April 3rd until August 8th,2020,corresponding to epidemiological weeks 14e32,reaching three million cases and a hundred thousand *** this data it was possible to classify Brazilian states using multivariate methods into possible groups by means of non-hierarchical(k-means)cluster as well as factor *** was possible to group all states plus the Federal District into five clusters,taking into account these 10 variables over the first five months of the *** changes between states were observed over time and clusters,and between three and four factors were ***,even with great difference on health indicators during days,the number of clusters remains ***,S^ao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro states were ranked at top list taking into account all epidemiological *** were observed between variables,such as the number of Covid cases and deaths with GDP for most of epidemiological *** clusters were more critical due to specific variables,including cities that are main *** multivariate findings would provide a comprehensive description of the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic and may help to guide subsequent studies to understand and control virus transmission.

An improved method of control design for rational nonlinear discrete-time systems with input saturation is proposed in this paper. Using Difference-Algebraic Representation (DAR) and parameter-dependent Lyapunov functions, a novel regional stabilization condition in terms of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI) is presented. Two optimization problems are addressed to either obtain the largest estimated Domain of Attraction (DoA) or minimize the $\ell_{2}$ -gain from the energy-bounded disturbance input to the performance output. Numerical examples illustrate the potential of the proposed approach.
