In addition he is the FFG 7 class Fin Stabilizer System Program Manager. Cdr. Donahue is an Engineering Duty Officer and Surface Warfare Officer who holds a BS in marine engineering from the California Maritime Academy a BS in business administration and an MS in material management from the Naval Postgraduate School. He is a designated Weapons Systems Acquisition Manager. Cdr. Donahue's sea service includes three tours culminating as chief engineer in USSFarragut (DLG-6) during that ship's complex overhaul as the DLG pilot ship for the 1200 PSI improvement program. Significant shore duty includes the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where he served as theBelknapproject officer during that ship's repair restoration and modernization following its collision with USSJohn F. Kennedy (CV-67) Assistant Sixth Fleet Maintenance Officer and the Naval Research Laboratory. Cdr. Donahue was the charter president of the ASNE Section at the Naval Postgraduate School. Edward J. McMahon:is founder and President Reliability Sciences Incorporated (RSI) and has been supporting NAVSEA on the FFG 7 Class fin stabilizer system procurement since 1977. Mr. McMahon has a BSME from New Jersey Institute of Technology and has done graduate work in electrical engineering operations research and engineering administration at New Jersey Institute of Technology Seton Hall University University of Alabama and George Washington University. 作者: DETOLLA, JP FLEMING, JR Joseph DeTolla:is a ship systems engineer in the Ship Systems Engineering Division SEA 56D5 at the Naval Sea Systems Command. His career with the Navy started in 1965 at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard Design Division. In 1971 he transferred to the Naval Ship Engineering Center. He has held positions as a fluid systems design engineer and auxiliary systems design integration engineer. Mr. DeTolla has worked extensively in the synthesis and analysis of total energy systems notably the design development of the FFG-7 class waste heat recovery system. He is NA VSEA's machinery group computer supported design project coordinator and is managing the development of a machinery systems data base load forecasting algorithms and design analysis computer programs. Mr. DeTolla has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University and a master of engineering administration degree from George Washington University. He is a registered professional engineer in the District of Columbia and has written several technical papers on waste heat recovery and energy conservation. Jeffrey Fleming:is a senior project engineer in the Energy R&D Office at the David Taylor Naval Ship R&D Center. In his current position as group leader for the future fleet energy conservation portion of the Navy's energy R&D program he is responsible for the identification and development of advanced components and subsystems which will lead to reductions in the fossil fuel consumption of future ships. Over the past several years he has also directed the development and application of total energy computer analysis techniques for the assessment of conventional and advanced shipboard machinery concepts. Mr. Fleming is a 1971 graduate electrical engineer of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and received his MS in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1975. Nappi:graduated from City College of New York in 1954 with a B.S. degree in civil engineering and received his M.S. in civil engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1959. He began his professional career in 1954 at the New York Naval Shipyard as a naval architect (structures) performing detail structural design and fabrication studies for CVAs LPDs DDs and CGs and eventually became a supervisory naval architect (structures). From 1965 to 1973 he was a member of the staff of the Computer-Aided Design Division at the David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center (DTNSRDC). As such he was involved in the development of the computer structural design tool the SSDP (in association with Frank M. Lev) and automated detail design programs (CASDOS). His current position is Senior Naval Architect Consultant in the structural integrity group of the Ship Structures Division Structures Department DTNSRDC. Mr. Nappi is the author and co-author of numerous technical papers and reports covering a wide spectrum of topics such as automated structural design process design for producibility and survivability material weight and cost trade-off studies and structural weight determination for high performance ships (i.e. SES SWATH HYSWAS). He has lectured on the subjects of design for survivability and ship structures at the Naval Post Graduate School and MIT. He is a member of ASNE ASCE U.S. Naval Institute Sigma Xi and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of New York. Mr. Nappi was a member of the NAVSEA working commitee for the computer supported design planning effort and is currently a member of the DTNSRDC ASSET Advisory Committee. Ronald W. Walz:graduated in 1974 from Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. degree in civil engineering. He began his professional career in 1974 at the David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center as a structural engineer in the structural design concepts group of the Ship Structures Division Structures Department.

Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center in 1957 as a co-operative student/trainee and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. As a 32-year-old naval architect in 1971 he received both the VietnamHonorServiceMedaland the Navy'sMeritoriousCivilianServiceAwardfor his eight months as liaison with the Vietnamese NAVVS ferro-cement ship program. As head of the Seakeeping and Stabilization Group of the Surface Ship Dynamics Branch his work has led to the development of a new standard Ship Motion Computer Program and the application of ship motions to ship habitability operability and survivability problems. A major area of this work has been the ship/aircraft interface which is particularly sensitive to ship motions wind and other environmental factors. Mr. Dennis A. Woolaver:has been employed as a Naval Architect at the David W. Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center since 1965 where his work has resulted in numerous patents. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University where he also completed graduate work in Communication Theory. Additional fields of study include Computer Science and Personnel Management. Current efforts are directed toward surface ship motion mitigation data acquisition and statistical analysis. He is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. Lt. Tom A. Beck USCG: joined the UnitedStatesCoastGuardin 1966 where he trained as an Electronics Technician. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University in 1978. Degree in Physics and did graduate work in semiconductors at the School of Electrical Engineering Cornell University sity receiving an M.S. degree. In 1972 he received an NSF grant to study the temperature dependence of crystal structures and while at Cornell he developed various fabrication and testing techniques with new semiconductor compounds. Upon joining Tetra Tech Inc. in 1976 he established and is responsible for their fiberoptic laboratory. He has carried out many programs involved in fiberoptic links for secure communication for various government agencies in which he authored numerous classified reports and developed special fiberoptic devices and system. He has also carried out studies and hardware development and evaluation programs for the military and commercial clients including marine and deep sea uses of fiberoptics for NOSC ONR and other off-shore industry contractors. For NAVSEA he authored several reports investigating the potential uses and advantages that fiberoptic technology offers to Navyshipboard operations. Mr. Slemon has published many articles and made numerous presentations in the field of fiberoptics. He has also taught several short courses on the subject and is the holder of several patents. Mr. Jack W. Abbott:received his BSME degree from Stanford University in 1960 and his Masters (MEA) degree from George Washington University in 1975. He holds a Professional Engineer License in the state of California. Mr. Abbott served as a naval officer – aboard a destroyer for 3 years. He worked for the Garrett Corporation for nearly 8 years involved with gas turbine design development and application. Upon graduation he began his professional career at the David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center. As a structural engineer in the Surface Ship Structures Division Mr. Wiernicki was responsible for developing improved methods and procedures for designing and evaluating structural systems for surf ace combatants. Specific projects included design for producibility development and evaluation of automated ship structural design methods and participation in the structural design of the CG 49 Cruiser and the current DDG 51 Destroyer. In 1982 Mr. Wiernicki received his M.S. degree in Ocean Engineering from George Washington University. Mr. Wiernicki is a recipient of the SNAME 1982-82 Graduate Scholarship and is currently doing post graduate work in Naval Architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology he is a member of ASNE SNAME ASCE and Chi Epsilon. Mr. Thomas G. Gooding:graduated in 1975 from the University of Michigan with B.S. degrees in Oceanography and Naval Architecture. From 1947 until 1951 he taught at the University of Notre Dame. Since 1951 he has been with the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School Monterey Calif. where he is now Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering. He has written several books and more than 100 research papers almost all on the subject of Automatic Control and recently coauthored a paper with Lt. E. Romero. Colombian Navy which was published in the February 1979 Naval Engineers Journal. He is a Consultant for IBM a Lecturer at the University of Santa Clara and a registered Professional Engineer in the states of California and Indiana. In addition to ASNE which he joined in 1970 he is a member of Sigma Xi Eta Kappa Nu ASEE and a Fellow of IEEE. USN Lt. John J. Uhrin III USN was born in New Jersey and educated at Villanova University where he was enrolled in the U.S. Naval Reserve Program. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1967 and after several tours of sea duty was ordered to graduate studies at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School Monterey Calif. from which he received his M.S.E.E. degree in 1975 and his E.E. degree in 1976. He is a member of Sigma Xi and IEEE.

He is a qualified Surface Warfare Officer who served for seventeen years in the unrestricted line. Captain Beecher's military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Star in lieu of Second Award. Mr. Anthony R. DiTrapani:is the Deputy Project Manager of the Guided Missile Frigate Ship Acquisition Project. He received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1958. He began his engineering career in the Navy's Bureau of Ships Steam Turbine and Gear Branch. specializing in steam turbine systems for nuclear submarines. In 1962 after completing graduate work at The George Washington University and a Navy–sponsored Electronics Training Program he joined the SQS–26 Sonar Project and served as Head of the Special Projects Section and subsequently the Test and Analysis Section until 1967. In 1967 he was selected to head the ASW Branch and later the Technical Management Plans Division for the DD–963 Ship Acquisition Project. Naval Sea Systems Command until 1971 when he was assigned to the FFG Project.
