This paper presents a new code compression method where we use different dictionaries, all of them are based in traditional Huffman algorithm. Our method reduces code size by up to 34.5% (including all extra costs) and presents an improvement of almost 7% over the traditional Huffman method. We performed simulations using Simple Scalar and analyzes using the applications from benchmark MiBench and use the embedded processor ARM.

This paper proposes a multiobjective heuristic search approach to support a project portfolio selection technique on scenarios with a large number of candidate projects. The original formulation for the technique requires analyzing all combinations of candidate projects, which is unfeasible when more than a few alternatives are available. We have used a multiobjective genetic algorithm to partially explore the search space of project combinations and select the most effective ones. We present an experimental study based on four project selection problems that compares the results found by the genetic algorithm to those yielded by a non-systematic search procedure. Results show evidence that the project selection technique can be used in large-scale scenarios and that GA presents better results than simpler search strategy. Technology will continue to be an important thing in life, technological developments can be found in everyday life. In medical intelligence technology, to identify bio-terrorism actions, and aspects that can threaten national security, such as targets that may be the object of attack, identify indicators early, build biosecurity, and analyze pathogen communities. The threat that hit the world is when resources are used by irresponsible people or groups and are used as biological weapons (bioweapons), bioterrorism, and others. These biological weapons are not only used for war but can also be used for terrorism purposes. The involvement of biological weapons in the history of war has been used, various weapons were created before the 20th century biological weapons in the form of biological toxins or bacteria from decaying animals and plants, after the 20th-century weapons switched to bacteria (anthrax), viruses (smallpox), and poison (botulinum). Regarding what is used as a biological weapon, this is regulated by various policies, both national policies, and defense policies. Anticipatory steps and efforts to overcome the threat of bioterrorism need to involve all parties, including the community, security forces, health workers, and scientists. Legal reforms can be carried out to perfect and complement existing legal loopholes as a result of controlling bioterrorism which widens the opportunities or loopholes for bioterrorism attacks in Indonesia that should receive state attention and formulate bioterrorism regulations.

This full paper of research to practice category describes an experiment using an Intelligent Tutoring System to support teaching and learning that evolve solutions of first-degree equations. The difficulties encountered in solving algebra problems can make students consider math and related science a difficult task. We propose a Tutor to promote the learning of this class of problems. In this article, we describe the functioning and architecture of the tutor composed by the Interface, Student Model, Tutorial Strategies and Domain Model. Also, a Virtual Assistant was included to motivate students in the learning process. The tutoring strategies that comprise the tutor are projected from models found in the literature. To approximate the interactions of the tutor with the actions of the teachers, Lev Vygotsky's Concept of Zone Proximal Development was used. The methodology used in this project was the case study applied in a real-life context, obtaining a combination of quantitative and qualitative evidence about technical and pedagogical usability that show the degree of satisfaction of the students regarding the proposed approach.

The inventory control systems has an important role to monitor the condition of the goods at the supply chain stage of goods distribution from the central warehouse to retail in accordance with consumer demand. The research aims to develop inventory control systems on the supply chain distribution of goods from suppliers to retail through the central warehouse with minimal supply chain costs. Minimization of supply chain cost using martingale model of forecast evaluation, and the result as the basis for calculation of safety stock and reorder point. The results of research are the system that can be used to control inventory and renewal of goods in the central warehouse by calculating the minimization of supply chain cost based on consumer demand. Case studies were conducted on the supply chain distribution of goods from the central warehouse to the retail in Semarang. The observation data derived from the goods distribution from central warehouse to retail for certain products over 4 time periods. Through such inventory control system, can minimize supply chain cost, and product inventory level can be maintained in time and amount of inventory that must be fulfilled. © 2018 IEEE.

This article proposes an approach to generate test cases from BPMN models, for automated testing of Web applications implemented with the support of BPM suites. The work is primarily focused on functional testing and has the following objectives: (i) identify execution paths from the flow analysis in the BPMN model and (ii) generate the initial code of test scripts to be run on a given Web application testing tool. Throughout the article, we describe the design and implementation of a solution to achieve these goals, targeting automated tests using Selenium and Cucumber as tools. The approach was applied to processes from a public repository and was able to generate test scenarios from different BPMN models.

At the Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe determining accident-prone areas on roads in Lhokseumawe still using manual systems. Determination of accident-prone areas are less effective because the police Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe just using the data of the last year and had to repeatedly calculate manually accident-prone areas based on the number of human casualties. In this study the system implementation CUSUM method (Cummulative Summary) to determine the accident-prone areas designed using the web-based programming language PHP. In this system there are three processes to determine areas prone to accidents, the accident rate calculations based on the weighted severity, blacksite calculations using the Z-Score method for determining areas prone to accident blackspots and calculations using the CUSUM method to determine the critical points of an accident. The data used are secondary data obtained from the Police Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe years 2009-2013. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Traffic Lights Signaling Optimization consists in optimizing traffic-light cycle using optimization algorithms. In this context, a traffic simulator can represent different road intersections and traffic lights and can calculate traffic quality measures. A solution to this problem can be encoded in a vector representing the time of each traffic light on the simulator and the objective functions are the traffic quality metrics. Since there are several metrics this problem can be defined as a many-objective optimization problem. In spite of the existence of several objective functions, the majority of the related work selects a small set, often two. This paper proposes a many-objective optimization framework based on objective reduction to solve Traffic lights Signaling Optimization Problem. Here, twelve objective functions are used. To deal with the high number of metrics, objective reduction techniques are applied along a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm. An experimental set is conducted to analyze if it possible to reduce the number of objective functions on the Traffic lights Signaling Optimization Problem and if this reduction enhances the performance of the optimization algorithm.

An efficient multi-objective evolutionary approach for solving the operation of multi-reservoir system scheduling in hydro-power plants

This paper tackles the short-term hydro-power unit commitment problem in a multi-reservoir system - a cascade-based operation scenario. For this, we propose a new mathematical modelling in which the goal is to maximize the total energy production of the hydro-power plant in a sub-daily operation, and, simultaneously, to maximize the total water content (volume) of reservoirs. For solving the problem, we discuss the Multi-objective Evolutionary Swarm Hybridization (MESH) algorithm, a recently proposed multiobjective swarm intelligence-based optimization method which has obtained very competitive results when compared to existing evolutionary algorithms in specific applications. The MESH approach has been applied to find the optimal water discharge and the power produced at the maximum reservoir volume for all possible combinations of turbines in a hydro-power plant. The performance of MESH has been compared with that of well-known evolutionary approaches such as NSGA-II, NSGA-III, SPEA2, and MOEA/D in a realistic problem considering data from a hydro-power energy system with two cascaded hydro-power plants in Brazil. Results indicate that MESH showed a superior performance than alternative multi-objective approaches in terms of efficiency and accuracy, providing a profit of $412,500 per month in a projection analysis carried out. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.
