Technological developments in the current era make use of various media for learning. Learning media can facilitate and support practical activities to improve skills, one of which is by using video tutorial media because the video tutorials show the natural form of real objects to follow the instructions easily. This initial research aims to determine the need to develop video tutorial media used by teachers and students in the learning process to assemble computers at the Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta vocational high school. This study used a descriptive-qualitative method by conducting interviews with one teacher and distributing needs analysis questionnaires to 30 students of class X TKJ as research subjects. The results obtained from the statement questionnaire given to students, 93% agreed to develop a video tutorial to facilitate understanding of the material to assemble a computer used for independent or group study wherever and whenever. This research can be used as a criterion for developing instructional media for video tutorials following the material's characteristics for assembling computers. © 2021 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Due to extraordinary electronic and optoelectronic properties, large-scale single-crystal two-dimensional (2D) semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) monolayers have gained significant interest in the development of profit-making cutting-edge nano and atomic-scale devices. To explore the remarkable properties of single-crystal 2D monolayers, many strategies are proposed to achieve ultra-thin functional devices. Despite substantial attempts, the controllable growth of high-quality single-crystal 2D monolayer still needs to be improved. The quality of the 2D monolayer strongly depends on the underlying substrates primarily responsible for the formation of grain boundaries during the growth process. To restrain the grain boundaries, the epitaxial growth process plays a crucial role and becomes ideal if an appropriate single crystal substrate is selected. Therefore, this perspective focuses on the latest advances in the growth of large-scale single-crystal 2D TMD monolayers in the light of enhancing their industrial applicability. In the end, recent progress and challenges of 2D TMD materials for various potential applications are highlighted. © 2023 The Authors. Advanced Science published by Wiley-VCH GmbH.

Hybrid descriptor definition for content based image classification using fusion of handcrafted features to convolutional neural network features

The efficacy of content-based image classification is dependent on the richness of the feature vectors extracted from the image data. Traditional feature extraction techniques highlight single low level image characteristics like shape, size, texture, color etc. for feature generation. The process often fails to extract meaningful descriptors since considering a single image characteristic will ignore other rich properties of image contents. Mass adoption of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) has significantly improved classification performances for content-based image data. Recent literature has documented high level of precision for image classification by carrying out transfer learning with open source pre trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). However, the concept of transfer learning experiences major setback in case of limited training data due to overfitting of training instances during finetuning. This work has identified this challenge and has attempted to capture probability distribution of input images to a pre trained Convolution Neural Network by utilizing it as a fixed weight feature extractor. The proposed approach has addressed the overfitting problem by removing the finetuning step involved in transfer learning. Further investigation on robust descriptor definition is carried out by concatenating the pre-trained CNN features to handcrafted features. The hybrid architecture has encouraging outcomes that have outclassed the classification accuracies of state-of-the-art handcrafted techniques. © 2021, Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management.

Assessment of Stainless Steel Tubular T-joints Under Chord Sidewall Failure Mode by a Semi-analytical Formulation

There are numerous benefits of tubular profiles that make them increasingly used in civil engineering. At the same time, stainless steel is a material with excellent properties and high corrosion resistance. However, stainless steel's high initial material cost has limited its use primarily to specialist and prestige applications, which makes it necessary to develop more accurate design rules for this material. When tubular profiles are used, it is necessary to assess the joint strengths, considering that they can fail by different mechanisms. The present work aims to develop a semi-analytical formulation to predict stainless steel tubular T-joint resistances. Joints with the brace-to-chord width ratio equal to 1 were considered in this study;therefore, the failure occurs in the chord sidewall. To assess the sidewall instability critical load, the exact stress fields were determined using Mathieu's theory, and then the Ritz energy method was applied. Considering that the joints are made of stainless steel, the next step is to transform the load found from linear to the non-linear regime. For that, a new formulation based on Ramberg-Osgood equations was developed. Finally, the results obtained from the proposed method were compared with the experimental results obtained by Feng and Young (2008) and the results from the main current standards and literature. It was observed that the proposed method presented satisfactory results, while the predictions from design codes were, in general, very conservative. © 2022 Ernst & Sohn GmbH.

Thermal comfort can be defined as the ‘condition of mind that expresses satisfaction with the thermal environment.’, and adaptive control measures comprise an adjustment to indoor environmental conditions based on occupant preferences, behavior, and feedback. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) in thermal comfort and adaptive control measures has the potential to significantly improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort in buildings. The adoption of the Working-from-home modality by several institutions and companies during and after the 2020 pandemic, accelerated the development of even more advanced and effective solutions in this area. This study, in its first phase, seeks to identify input parameters related to adaptive control measures adopted by the same occupants in two work environments (office building and residences) to promote personal thermal comfort contributing to the development of individual devices and IoT applications related to thermal comfort monitoring.

This paper compares single microstrip antenna designs and microstrip arrays used for Manpack Radar with X-band frequency. Antenna array configurations were investigated for 1x2, 1x4, and 1x32 elements. A gain increase is required for each additional patch element. Patch dimensions are set at 9.17 x 10.10 x 0.035 mm. The parameters needed are X-Band frequency with gain >15 dBi, beamwidth angle of ≤5°, and bandwidth of more than 60 MHz. The simulation results show a good match with the target required for the 9.3 GHz frequency. The largest gain value numerically is obtained on the antenna with 32 patches, which is 17.1 dBi.

In this paper, dual Vienna rectifiers are proposed for Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) applications with Open-End Winding (OEW) Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG). Due to the reduced number of controlled switches, the proposed topologies have reduced costs and high reliability. Besides, they provide a better power quality using the same number of controlled switches than conventional structures presented in the literature, making them very attractive options for industry applications. The system model, space vector modulation, and control strategy are given. Simulation results are provided in order to validate their performance and feasibility. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper presents a single-phase four-leg ac-dc-ac converter, with one leg shared by the grid side and the load side. The proposed topology can generate input and output voltages with seven levels, presenting reduced harmonic distortion, in addition to using reduced voltage switches. The space-vector pulsewidth modulation strategy (SV-PWM), the control technique, the system model, and a comparison with a three-leg topology will be presented. As for performance comparison parameters, harmonic distortion in currents and voltages, the average switching frequency, and semiconductor losses will be used. The topology was simulated and assembled in the laboratory to obtain experimental results. © 2020 IEEE.

Macroporous open-celled ceramic foams finds applications in numerous technological fields, like particle filters, insulating coatings, porous support for catalyst and photocatalyst processes, and even photoelectrochemical applications. In latter two, a macroporous open cell structure favors photoelectrochemical and photocatalyst reactions, due to its higher surface area. Many methods are used for producing these types of ceramics, specially the replica technique. In this simple method, the samples are obtained by impregnating a highly porous polymeric foam with a high solid loading ceramic slurry. After thermal treatment, the macroporous ceramic presents the structure of the polymeric foam used as template. Exceptionally complex and regular geometries can also be found in nature, which is the case of the Luffa sp sponge, that can replace the use of synthetic polymeric foams. In this work, microwave sinterability of porous ceramics obtained by impregnation of high solid loading ceramic slurries of nanostructured zinc oxide in natural Luffa sp fibrous sponges. Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), xanthan gum (XG) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were assessed as binder agents. Ceramic slurries were prepared by dispersing nanostructured zinc oxide in distilled water (70% wt. ratio) using ammonium polyacrilate (APA) as deflocculant, followed by mixing in a high shear mixer (IKA Ultra-Turrax T25) for 10 minutes. After homogenization, binders were added and mixed in mechanical mixer for 10 minutes. The sponges (with dimensions of 2x2x1 cm) were carefully immersed in the ceramic slurry, squeezed to remove excess and then left to dry 24h in air. The dried ceramic foams were microwave heated at 550 °C during 10 minutes with 100 °C/min heating rate, followed by microwave sintering at 1150 and 1200 °C during 15 minutes with a 100 °C/min heating rate. Modeling and Evaluation of the Biogas Composition from a Sanitary Landfill in Southern Brazil, for Use in Bioenergy

Biogas is formed from the anaerobic degradation of the organic fraction of waste. The main constituents are methane gas, carbon dioxide. In this sense, the present work aims to evaluate the emission of biogas generated in the sanitary landfill, as well as its energy potential. The biogas production estimates were carried out using the IPCC, LandGEM and "Biogas, energy generation and use, landfill 1.0" methodologies, methane production was estimated based on three scenarios, being scenario 1 (C1), scenario 2 (C2) and scenario 3 (C3), for IPCC the generation was 1.30x10 4 t/CH 4 (C1), 1.04x10 4 t/CH 4 (C2) and 6.54 x 10 3 t/CH 4 (C3) respectively. For LandGEM with 8.90x10 3 t/year (C1), 5.91x10 3 t/year (C2) and 5.27x10 3 t/year (C3). The differences between the methodologies are a consequence of the input parameters considered. The generated biogas was collected and the flow determined with an average biogas flow of 1.19x102 Nm³ h -1 . Based on estimates of methane gas production, a power of 16,517 kW/month was obtained, with maximum production for the year 2042. Thus, the sanitary landfill has potential for electric energy production, requiring the implementation of a biogas use system. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
