Tourism development is needed because tourism can increase an income in a destination. Ecotourism is a new type of tourism that responsible towards nature, community, and the environment. Ecotourism draws more tourist's interest because besides giving natural tourism experience, they can learn to conserve the nature and involve with the community. Aek Nauli Natural Forest has been opened for public since 2011. However, the tourism is not developing despite of its attraction's potential. This research is focusing on natural attraction as one of the elements of tourism attraction. The aim of this research is to find tourist attractions that have the potential to be developed based on ecotourism in Aek Nauli. This research uses a qualitative method by conducting observation and in-depth interview with key respondents. The dominance of economic values in the tourism development has caused the decline of other important values, thus make the application of sustainability concept is crucial. As part of Indonesia's priority destinations, this concept is also needed to be applied in Samosir Island. In other hand as a tourism destination, a place must have distinctiveness to differentiate it from other places because tourism is fundamentally a recreational product based on place phenomenon. The research is a study of the value of uniqueness on the environmental elements of sustainable tourism in Samosir Island, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The research used mixed methods where questionnaires were distributed to 105 respondents, field observation was conducted, and in-depth interviews were held with six key informants. The result shows that the existence of the traditional building has a great influence towards the physical integrity of the tourist while the diverse cultural activities in the areas required appropriate strategies in enhancing and supporting the environmental elements of sustainable tourism.

Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan (SAMS) Airport has an important role as the gateway of economic activity in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. Elements of the airport consist of runways, taxiway, apron and the terminal building of departure and arrival. The runway has an important role as a key element in airport infrastructure, this is related to aircraft and passenger safety in air traffic at SAMS Airport, which is currently one of the best airports in Indonesia that meets the International Standard qualification. The purpose of this study is to perform visual assessment of runway deterioration at SAMS Airport using PCI (Pavement Condition Index) method, to know the factors affecting runway deterioration and the effective distress treatment to overcome deterioration at a runway. The visual assessment data are collected from PT. Angkasa Pura I (Persero) Sepinggan, by measuring the types and area of deterioration occurring on the runway during 1-month period (in September 2018), then PCI is analyzed by using ASTM D 5340 – 98. The results show that the PCI value is 80.4 which means the rating is excellent. The most common typical distress occurred at Threshold Runway 25 section 1 with the type of distress is block cracking which mainly caused by asphalt concrete shrinkage and daily temperature condition resulting in stress or strain series, another type is depression initially caused by the settlement from the soil foundation or construction process. Since PCI shows excellent state, the distress repair treatment to be performed is surface repair or routine maintenance with partial mill and overlay method.

Foaming agent concentrate made from palm oil produced as a fire extinguishing material in peatlands at a laboratory-scale test were able to extinguish a fire within 3.16 to 4.49 hours. Fire extinguishing ability of this foaming agent concentrate resulted in a lower solution use and shorter extinguishing time than water. However, when compared to commercial products, fire extinguishing time was still longer although the amount of solution needed to extinguish the fire was lower. Therefore, it was necessary to improve the formula to produce a foaming agent concentrate that was able to extinguish the fire in a shorter time with a lower amount of fire extinguishing solution. This study aims to improve the performance of palm oil foaming agent concentrate on extinguishing the fire in peatlands. Efforts to improve the performance were made by reformulation and the addition of chemical fire retardants. Results showed that the addition of fire retardant reduced foaming ability, increased surface tension, lowered viscosity, lowered contact angle, and reduced fire extinguishing time to about 13.08-69.21%.

Modifying asphalt concrete with using Crumb Rubber (CR) can provide environmental benefits. The method used in this study is an experimental laboratory with Mashall machine. The tests used two types of gradation, namely the gradations of Ideal and Laboratory Test. CR used in a mixture with a dry process method to replacement 0%, 5%, 15% and 20% of the weight aggregate at fraction No. 30 (0.6 mm). The results showed that the Ideal gradation mixture has a better characteristic than the mixture of laboratory tested gradations. Ideal gradations can increased stability into 10% from Laboratory Test gradations for mixture without CR. Addition of CR contect in AC mixture did not significantly effect for the characteristics. To ensure the effect of CR in mixture, further test must be taken.
