This paper introduces a new breed of four-wire (4W) multilevel shunt compensator to deal with either harmonic or reactive power compensation. The converter configurations are generalized for K-stages and the main benefits of proposed topologies lie on i) multilevel waveforms generation, ii) single dc-link unit and iii) modular characteristic. The configurations are based on cascaded transformers along with three-phase-bridge (TPB) converters. These converters are directly connected to the transformer primary side. A suitable PWM strategy combined with an appropriate transformer turns ratio guarantees the desirable multilevel output waveforms. The modularity feature provides simple maintenance and makes the proposed shunt active power filters (SAPFs) an attractive solution in comparison with conventional configurations. The configuration model and overall control are addressed, as well. Simulation and experimental results are presented for theoretical validation. © 2017 IEEE.

Physical Characteristics of Modified Cassava Flour Wastewater at Room Temperature

Cassava is an agricultural material that is considered as important raw resources in the industrial sector. The benefits are even greater after being modified using lactic acid bacteria. However, the mocaf industry often causes water and air pollution. Environmental problems arise after the fermentation process. Determination problems with lightness, TDS (Total Dissolved Solid), conductivity and pH analysis are required to measure the impact to the environment. This research was used waste water from mocaf during 3 days fermentation. The wastewater had the highest color level (Lightness) on initial day of fermentation at 83.7±3.73 and then decrease along the day of fermentation at the averages of 65.2±2.0. The highest TDS was resulted from the mocaf wastewater at a value of 1218 ± 4.6 ppm which continued to decline until day 4. The conductivity and pH showed a decrease along the day of fermentation. As conclusion, physical characteristic of wastewater from mocaf production could be analyzed specifically and determined through color, TDS, conductivity, and pH.

This paper discusses the result of the study on plant diversity in the Agroforestry system and its traditional uses by the three different ethnicities in Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. The basic data of traditional plants used by each of the ethnic groups in the research site wer collected through an in-depth interview initiated by an informed consent using a questionnaire containing open-ended questions—fifty (50) respondents from each of the ethnic groups representing different jobs. The result showed that the highest number of plant species was found in research site B, bu the highest number of individual plants was noted in research site A. The highest Important Value Index (IVI) of tree, poles, sapling a,nd seedling level of plant species differed among the three research sites. When viewed from the perspective of traditional plant use, the highest ICS of plants utilized by the three ethnics was 'coconut' (Cocos Nucifera L). The number ofthe utiliplantslant was different among the three ethnics. Tao Taa Wana people have utilized about 43 plant species, 27 of which were used for medicines, 20 for foods, 2 for natural dying, 18 for fuels, 6 for building materials, 5 for ritraditionaluonal ceremonies. In research site B (Singkoyo), 52 plant spe es have been extensively used by Javanese people for a wide range of culturally related activities, 28 species were used as medicine, 32 for food, 17 for fuel, 7 for building materials, and 10 for ornaments. Unlikely, in site C (Mentawa, 39 plant species were used traditionally by Balinese people; 18 of which were used for medicines, 18 for food, and 13 for ritual ceremonies).

Climate change affects all areas, including those with low temperature. Wonosobo belongs to highland areas with low temperature. The thermal performance of buildings is influenced by micro-environment climate so that the climate change will affect the thermal performance of buildings. Vernacular buildings are believed to be able to make the occupants comfortable. The vernacular buildings in tropical highlands have either exposed stone walls or wooden walls. The present research seeks to analyze the thermal performance of building envelopes with wooden walls and exposed stone walls in highland areas. Simulation method using the Ecotect software was applied. There are 12 building models with a variety of roofing and flooring were selected. The results of the simulation indicate that the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures of one model and other models is not significant. Warm temperature mostly occurs in houses with exposed stone walls. Highland areas need much warmth so that cold temperature will not disturb occupants.

The use of classroom assessment based on multi-representation ability in Mechanics concept

This study aimed to describe the use of classroom assessment based on multi-representation ability. This research used descriptive research method. Research participants were 20 prospective physics teacher at one university in Indonesia, who attended basic physics course. Research instruments used questionnaires and essays test based on multi-representations. The results showed that the learning process only use summative assessment which focuses at the end of material and learning units. Learning process and assessment in Basic Physics Course used one or two representational modes, so those did not facilitate simultaneous representation modes. The result described that only 42% prospective physics teachers representation ability was good category (75-84 attainment) on mathematical representation. The recommendation of this study is to develope learning program, formative, and diagnostic assessment based multi-representation in Basics Physics Course.

Cooperative Mainstream Traffic Flow Control on Freeways

Mainstream Traffic Flow Control (MTFC) is a freeway traffic control method which aims to maximize throughput by regulating the mainstream flow upstream from a bottleneck. Using Variable Speed Limits (VSL) as actuators for MTFC, we study the effects of different penetration rates of automated vehicles on MTFC-VSL. Automated vehicles can be designed to be much more strict in complying with VSL, which leads to a better MTFC performance than with ordinary VSL. Simulation results show that higher penetration rates translate into better performance with a significant effect up to 30% penetration rate, and very little gains beyond that; and that mixing forms of applying VSL may be detrimental to traffic. © 2016

The current rapid assessment of post-earthquake damaged houses has been done manually. The determination of the damage level is also very subjective. Moreover, the available time during a rapid assessment and limited number of enumerators lead to ineffective decisions for responses and assistances. There are several application had appeared trying to answer the problems, but still they have many types of data that need to be input and even need a lot of time to process. The system design to be simple, more user-friendly and time efficient to be operated during the assessment. This study is aimed to develop a conceptual design of a system to collect data of houses damaged by earthquake using mobile application which propose to work both online and offline. The system will consists of five components: mobile device, user, data center (web server and database), internet, and data processing center (administrator and manager to verify and analyze the data). The application design to be integrated with Google Maps containing concise data entry to facilitate users (trained users and common users) and to shorten the time of data collection. Final collected data will be presented through the website and perform descriptive and spatial analysis.

Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) is a bacterium that plays a major role in the occurrence of dental caries. Dental caries is a disease that destroys tooth structure, consequently the tooth becomes perforated as well as the sustainable state of accumulation of S. mutans excess in the oral cavity can cause damage to the tooth nerve. One alternative treatment of caries is Photodynamic Inactivation (PDI). PDI is a method of microbial inactivation using light and photosensitizer (PS). The absorption of light energy by PS molecules can produce reactive oxygen species that will damage the bacterial cells. Clinical antimicrobial photodynamic therapy using a light source is generally performed at various angles of irradiation depending on the position of the tooth. The amis of this study is to analyze the effect of LED lamination angle (450.00 ± 0.21) nm for inactivation of S. mutans by adding PS chlorophylls of Moringa oliefera leaf with concentration 8 mg / ml. Total Plate Count (TPC) was used to determine the decreasement of bacterial viability in CFU / ml. This study aims to investigate the influence of Product-Service-Systems on sustainability in small rural communities. The methodological approach is a case-based research. A case of olive processing in the Mantiqueira mountain range community, an inland region from Brazil, is in-depth analyzed. This case is a result-oriented PSS deployment that brings some insights on the creation of new business ecosystems, previously unfeasible due to the large amount of hectares dominated by small proprieties with intensive familiar farming labor. Some aspects of this PSS business model on producing olive oil more intensively introduced in the region by 2012 are the access to more financially viable technologies; financing and partnerships with government; on distance labor training possibility and compact equipment automation for olives processing. It enables new businesses previously limited to producers with large investment possibilities. In addition, it collaborates with the local economy, adding value to products offered by the farmers, promoting sustainable land management through the waste reuse and encourages tourism, job creation and skilled labor training, collaborating with progress in small agricultural towns in the inland.

There are scientific evidences that the vegetation removal due the urbanization has contributed to the rise of temperatures in the cities. This paper analyses the relationship between vegetation cover and surface temperatures using Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing in Salvador, Brazil, from March to October 2016. The free access images captured by Sentinel-2 satellite sensors (European Space Agency) allowed the vegetation and land use mapping in the study area. The map classes were defined as continuous and fragmented vegetation, permeable surface, water and built up surface. To obtain the Terrestrial Surface Temperatures, Landsat-8 satellite images were selected from U.S. Geological Survey web portal, which after processed resulted in the Thermal Maps generated from band 10, thermal infrared - TIR. The 2016 images processing was carried out in the software SPRING for land use and vegetation coverage classification and QGIS for surface temperatures conversion of the Landsat-8 thermal band. The results indicated the predominance of the built-up surface. The thermal maps showed that the lower temperature, 26°C, correspond to vegetation cover areas while the higher temperature, 41°C, to areas without vegetation, corroborating the hypothesis that the apparent surface temperatures behavior is related to the vegetation amount in urban areas.
