Cloud computing is considered a paradigm both technology and business. Its widespread adoption is an increasingly effective trend. However, the lack of quality metrics and audit of services offered in the cloud slows its use, and it stimulates the increase in focused discussions with the adaptation of existing standards in management services for cloud services offered. This article describes the EMSCloud, that is an Evaluative Model of Cloud Services following interoperability standards, risk management and audit of cloud IT services. Aims to present that is possible to assess the life cycle of services offered in the cloud in the technical dimensions of usability, good practices and economic viability.

The disposal and treatment of wastes generated in the leather industry has been the focus of several studies around the world. They intend to meet environmental legislation and make the process environmentally and economically viable. The anaerobic digestion process, which occurs in steps that involve acid and methane forming bacteria, can be an alternative since it turns the waste into renewable energy. This work evaluated the anaerobic digestion process and the generation of biogas from leather industry waste (wet-blues shavings and sludge from wastewater treatment plant-WWTP) and from parboiled rice waste. In both, microorganisms isolated from aerobic sludge of WWTP (inoculum) were added. The waste was analyzed for organic carbon and total solids content. The samples were maintained at 35°C, the volume of gas generated was measured and the composition was determined by gas chromatography. The addition of inoculum increased volume of biogas generated. The amount of biogas generated by leather waste was 23 ml (composed of 25% of hydrogen, in molar basis).The rice with the addition of tannery WWTP sludge generated 47 ml of biogas (composed of 75% of hydrogen, in molar basis). The anaerobic digestion process is efficient for leather industry waste treatment since it converts waste into renewable energy.

This paper presents an experimental and numerical analysis of the chord normal stresses influence on the "T" tubular joints behaviour. The experimental program consisted of six tests: two without chord axial forces;two with compressive chord forces;and the remaining two with tensile chord forces. These results were compared to numerical results obtained with the aid of the ANSYS 12.0 software, and to the design provisions present in the: Eurocode 3;NBR 16239:2013 Brazilian standard and ISO 14346. This assessment indicated that the results obtained for chords without axial forces and with compressive forces, in both experiments and numerical analyses, were safe when compared to the values predicted by all the investigated standards, where the best fit was obtained by ISO 14346. On the other hand, the results associated to cases with chord tension forces proved to be conservative. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, London.

We search for gravitational-wave (GW) transients associated with fast radio bursts (FRBs) detected by the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment Fast Radio Burst Project, during the first part of the third observing run of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo (2019 April 1 15:00 UTC-2019 October 1 15:00 UTC). Triggers from 22 FRBs were analyzed with a search that targets both binary neutron star (BNS) and neutron star-black hole (NSBH) mergers. A targeted search for generic GW transients was conducted on 40 FRBs. We find no significant evidence for a GW association in either search. Given the large uncertainties in the distances of our FRB sample, we are unable to exclude the possibility of a GW association. Assessing the volumetric event rates of both FRB and binary mergers, an association is limited to 15% of the FRB population for BNS mergers or 1% for NSBH mergers. We report 90% confidence lower bounds on the distance to each FRB for a range of GW progenitor models and set upper limits on the energy emitted through GWs for a range of emission scenarios. We find values of order 10⁵¹-10⁵⁷ erg for models with central GW frequencies in the range 70-3560 Hz. At the sensitivity of this search, we find these limits to be above the predicted GW emissions for the models considered. We also find no significant coincident detection of GWs with the repeater, FRB 20200120E, which is the closest known extragalactic FRB. © 2023. The Author(s). An unidirectional single-phase three-wire rectifier is proposed in this paper. Such a proposed topology is composed of a non-controlled leg, two controlled legs and a capacitor bank. A suitable model and control strategy of the system, including a synchronization method, are proposed as well. The synchronization method, associated with the PWM strategy, imposes the grid currents to have the same phase angle of the generated voltages by rectifier. This method ensures sinusoidal grid currents and mitigate the zero-crossover distortions normally caused by the use of diodes. A comprehensive comparison with two conventional configurations is also presented in this paper. Simulation and experimental results are also presented for validation purposes.

The Behavior of Recycled Concrete through the Application of an Isotropic Damage Model

The main goal of this paper is to describe the mechanical behavior of the CDW recycled concrete in compression, using an isotropic damage model adapted to the variation of the replacement rate of natural aggregates by recycled ones. The isotropic model by Mazars was used as a constitutive equation for the CDW concrete and its adjustment parameters, A and B, were written as quadratic polynomials according to the aggregates replacement rate. The model was evaluated for conventional and recycled concretes. For the latter ones, the aggregates replacement ratios evaluated were 50% and 100%. The results show good approximation between the analytical and numerical values obtained with the adapted isotropic damage model and experimental concrete results for both compressive and flexural strength.

In industrial systems' simulated environments the assimilation of technical procedures by the operators under training is enhanced by reproducing similar to real situations experienced in the workplace. The experience and learning acquired in simulators is directly related to the quality and realism of the proposed training scenarios. On the other hand, the experience acquired is even more conducive to good working practices when it involves situations known to lead into errors. Often training scenarios are dependent on the tutor's experience and the knowledge of operator difficulties in the work environment. This paper proposes a systematic approach for building training scenarios to be simulated, based on the analysis and reproduction of situations described in the working environment error reports. This approach is based on the instantiation of ontologies built for both domains, covering the knowledge on both the error situations and operator training scenarios. This study is focused in the domain of electric power systems operation.

Traffic flow and building parameters are analysed jointly to identify urban noise tendencies. For this purpose, the building parameter applied is the Floor Space Index (FSI). Acoustical and traffic flow data were collected and incorporated into a Geographical Information System (GIS). The fu-ture scenarios for this zone were created. For the FSI parameter, it was ver-ified that the higher the value of the average FSI, the higher the noise lev-els registered in urban canyons.

Clay minerals are widespread in natural systems and have been widely used for the removal of pollutants. In this study, natural expanded vermiculite was used in adsorption tests to remove ammonium nitrogen from landfill leachate. The modification of vermiculite was carried out using NaOH and HCl, and for both modifications the best concentration was 0.1 mol/L. The results produced by XRD (X-ray diffraction) showed that Al replaced K after modification of the vermiculite using HCl and that Mg and Na replaced K after modification using NaOH. It was observed that the adsorption capacity increased as the percentage in mass of K diminished. The Langmuir is the isotherm that presents the best fit of the data, and the values of RL (the Langmuir coefficient) suggest that the adsorption is linear. The thermodynamic parameters indicate that the process is spontaneous and endothermic, that there is a high affinity between the adsorbate and the adsorbent, and that physical adsorption is prevalent.

This paper presents a new electromagnetic modeling of a via-hole using a Wave Concept Iterative Procedure. There are specific TM modes associated with the insertion of the via-hole influencing the incident and reflected waves, called the "via's modes". The formulation and results are presented considering the influence of one and two via's mode. The advantage of the model presented is the possibility to simulate planar circuits with a layer and a via-hole considering the effects of the field that propagates around the via. © 2015 IEEE.
