This article is a result of a phenomenological study of Kampung Luar Batang, a historical urban kampung located at Ciliwung river estuary in Jakarta, Indonesia. Islam missionary, Al-Habib Husein bin Abubakar Allaydrus, has forged image of the kampung as a pilgrimage place because of his sacred maqom . Outsiders who visit to this sacred maqom increase the intensity of public space uses and the occupants’ economic activities. Religious, traditional and economic activities have simultaneously created unique overlapping layers. This paper's intention is to generate a model that might be able to decode the elements and the layers of this interesting phenomenon.

The use of fine recycled aggregates as raw material in the production of mortars appears as a good alternative to minimize waste disposal, so as to reduce natural resources consumption and to find and supply suitable substitutes for natural aggregates. However, the use of this alternative material in a safe way must be carried out by a wide investigation of its long term behavior. In this way, this paper will examine the mechanical strength, physical properties and drying shrinkage of mortar, which use recycled fine aggregates that have originated from construction and demolition waste (CDW) containing mortar (55%), ceramic (26%) and concrete (16%). Two natural mortars, made with natural sand, were produced with cement/sand ratios of 1:4 and 1:8 (by weight) and a fixed consistency index of 260 +10 mm. Recycled mortar was produced with 50% of substitution rate, in volume, of natural aggregate by recycled one. Results show that recycled mortars present higher total porosity, absorption rate and drying shrinkage than reference mortar.

This paper proposes a multiobjective heuristic search approach to support a project portfolio selection technique on scenarios with a large number of candidate projects. The original formulation for the technique requires analyzing all combinations of candidate projects, which is unfeasible when more than a few alternatives are available. We have used a multiobjective genetic algorithm to partially explore the search space of project combinations and select the most effective ones. We present an experimental study based on four project selection problems that compares the results found by the genetic algorithm to those yielded by a non-systematic search procedure. Results show evidence that the project selection technique can be used in large-scale scenarios and that GA presents better results than simpler search strategy. The spread of telemedicine systems increases every day. The systems and PACS based on DICOM images has become common. This rise reflects the need to develop new storage systems, more efficient and with lower computational costs. With this in mind, this article discusses a study for application in NetCDF data format as the basic platform for storage of DICOM images. The study case comparison adopts an ordinary database, the HDF5 and the NetCDF to storage the medical images. Empirical results, using a real set of images, indicate that the time to retrieve images from the NetCDF for large scale images has a higher latency compared to the other two methods. In addition, the latency is proportional to the file size, which represents a drawback to a telemedicine system that is characterized by a large amount of large image files.

This paper presents the results of an on-going investigation into the use of an anthropomorphic robotic manipulator with three degrees of freedom (two DOF shoulder joint and one DOF elbow joint) for rehabilitation of a human upper arm. The reduction to three DOF for this manipulator allows for a simpler project, leading to a lower cost of production and maintenance: important factors for its intended wide-spread use in financially restricted areas, e.g., the state of Goiás, Brazil. The project focuses on determining the variations observed for a class of trajectories known as functional movements. These functional movements are trajectories realized when a limb is used for a given function, e.g., combing the hair. In this present paper we use three functional movements: hair combing, bringing a cup to one's mouth and a waving movement. We describe how these functional movements are acquired from test subjects and compared in computer simulations to the equivalent functional movements of our proposed reduced-order anthropomorphic manipulator. Our research indicates that the errors incurred in using a reduced-order shoulder joint are well within the observed variation in the functional movements of human subjects, when compared among different subjects and also between similar functional movements of any one given human subject. Despite the limitations, the proposed manipulator would be viable for rehabilitation of patients in early phases of a stroke, at lower cost of production.

This study proposes to identify and select indicators contributing to the evaluation of the levels of sustainability in the family agriculture production of castor beans in the state of Paraíba. To achieve these objectives, we used the Pressure-State-Impact-Response (PSIR) model, which describes the human activities, processes and standards that impact on sustainable development. The methodology was based on Descriptive and Exploratory research applied in a case study of an agricultural cooperative. The primary data were collected through semi-structured interviews with representatives of public organs and agriculturists. Based on the reality and the problems that affecting the production system, a total 47 indicators were set, classified and tailored to the specifics of the activity, considering the different dimensions of sustainability. The results showed that the indicators selected enabled the systemic analysis of agricultural activity, facilitating the identification of the positive and negative aspects that influence the productive sector, and also propose possible solutions and improvements to stimulating the local oleaginous production.

Prosthesis can be seen as a complex product and its project requires a formal method to consistent development. In this research, the main objective is to determine a feasible method for the creation of virtual models of anatomic human prosthesis. The work presents a conceptual model based on digital images applied in 3D reconstruction of computed tomography scans. The proposed method uses an automatic way based on genetic algorithm to build the virtual models to bone geometry. The CAD system can be used to build the geometric models in preparing to prosthesis generation by the production viewpoint. The problem of open contour is addressed. A case study to fill a missing area in skull is used to demonstrate the process. The work involves some technologies as CAD modeling, image processing and artificial intelligence algorithms that can be applied together in order to obtain a virtual model to prosthesis conception.
