In view of the current and predictable energy shortage and environmental concerns, the exploitation of renewable energy sources offers great potential to meet increasing energy demands and to decrease depend- ence on fossil fuels. However, introducing these sources will be more attractive provided they operate in conjunction with energy storage systems (ESS). Furthermore, effective energy storage management is essential to achieve a balance between power quality, efficiency, costs and environmental constraints. This paper presents a method based on the analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy multi-rules and multi-sets. By exploiting a multiple criteria analysis, the proposed methods evaluate the operation of storage energy systems such as: pumped hydro and compressed air energy storage, H2, flywheel, super-capacitors and lithium-ion storage as well as NaS advanced batteries and VRB flow battery. The main objective of the study is to find the most appropriate ESS consistent with a power quality priority. Several parameters are used for the investigation: efficiency, load management, technical maturity, costs, environmental impact and power quality.

In this research, it was made the evaluation of the acoustic performance of some closing systems mostly used in steel-structured buildings in Brazil, for instance walls made of the cement plates, precast concrete panels and plasterboard walls. The acoustic performance was evaluated by estimating the sound transmission loss that occurs through them using a simplified graphical method. It was studied the performance of these kinds of panels and their combinations forming double panels, with and without sound-absorbing material between them. Vegetable oil form in Natural Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) has their own advantages: first of all they are available everywhere in the world. Secondly, they are renewable as the vegetables which produce oil seeds can be planted year after year. Thirdly, they are friendly with our environment, as they seldom contain sulphur element in them. This makes vegetable fuel studies become current among the various popular investigations. This study is attempt to optimization of using blend FAME on diesel engine by experimental laboratory. The investigation experimental project is comparison between using blend FAME and base diesel fuel. The engine experiment is conducted with YANMAR TF120M single cylinder four stroke diesel engine set-up at variable engine speed with constant load. The data have been taken at each point of engine speed during the stabilized engine-operating regime. Measurement of emissions parameters at difference engine speed conditions have generally indicated lower in emission NOx, but slightly higher on CO2 emission. The result also shown that the blends FAME are good in fuel consumption and potentially good substitute fuels for diesel engine

Telemedicine is a very important area in medical field that is expanding daily motivated by many researchers interested in improving medical applications. In Brazil was started in 2005, in the State of Santa Catarina has a developed server called the CyclopsDCMServer, which the purpose to embrace the HDF for the manipulation of medical images (DICOM) using a distributed file system. Since then, many researches were initiated in order to seek better performance. Our approach for this server represents an additional parallel implementation in I/O operations since HDF version 5 has an essential feature for our work which supports parallel I/O, based upon the MPI paradigm. Early experiments using four parallel nodes, provide good performance when compare to the serial HDF implemented in the CyclopsDCMServer.

The objective is to create new Rhizopus sp inoculum product in order to provide market need for Tempe industries. The benefit is to utilize the appropriate traditional biotechnology for the development of a high quality inoculum product. The methods used is research and development to create new products. Technology transfer to industry of traditional biotechnology on Rhizopus sp inoculum was done by using technoware (T), humanware (H), infoware (I), and organoware (O), respectively followed by a mathematical model equation as the following d(TCC)/TCC = β t dT/T + β H dH/H + B i dI/I + β O dO/O and TCC = T(β t ) × H(β h ) × I(β i ) × O(β o ) where TCC is technology contribution coefficient and β t, β H , β i , β o are coefficient for each component of techno metric. The results can be shown that the technology transfer to industry of traditional biotechnology can be done by using a mathematical model of technometric approaches. This Rhizopus sp inoculum product can be accepted by a particular market need in terms of socially desirable and economically justified for small and medium scale tempe industries in Indonesia.

In recent years the area of nonlinear control systems has been the subject of many studies. Computational developments have enabled more complex applications to provide solutions to nonlinear problems. The purpose of this paper is to use a combination of two techniques to control a nonlinear system: the Magnetic Levitation System. First, the exact linearization technique with state feedback is applied to obtain a linear system. Second, the linearization is made via direct cancellation of nonlinear functions, which represent the phenomenological model of the system. Finally, to deal with the presence of uncertainty in the system model, an adaptive controller is used. The controller is based on fuzzy logic to estimate the functions that contain the nonlinearities of the system. The fuzzy system is a zero-order Takagi-Sugeno-Kang structure and the adaptive controller is implemented in a simulated environment (Matlab Simulink ©). The methodology guarantees the convergence of the estimates to their optimal values, and in turn the overall stability of the system. The results show the controller output signal tracks a reference input signal. For future work this adaptive controller should be implemented in a real physical system. © 2010 IEEE.

It was with great excitement that we planned the combined meetings of Northeast Aquaculture Conference and Exposition (NACE) and the International Conference on Shellfish Restoration (ICSR) with the 33rd Milford Aquaculture Seminar (MAS). Bringing these different but complementary audiences together resulted in a meeting that combined many different aspects of fisheries restoration and aquaculture under one *** hundred attendees including government representatives, research scientists, industry, and academia at both the university and vocational high school levels attended this event. The meeting commenced on Wednesday December 12th 2012, with over eighty people attending seven field trips to area aquaculture farms and research facilities. The formal program began on Thursday, December 13th with a plenary session including invited speakers Eric Schwabb, Acting Assistant Secretary for Conservation and Management at NOAA; Sebastian Belle, Executive Director of the Maine Aquaculture Association and Boze Hancock from the Nature Conservancy, who discussed the role of aquaculture in fisheries restoration. John Bullard, the Northeast Regional Administrator of NOAA Fisheries Service, addressed the group during the luncheon the following day. The technical papers and workshops presented were divided into 35 sessions over three days of the meeting and included topics such as the history of aquaculture, aquaculture hatchery innovations, siting and planning issues, risk management, aquaculture business management, ocean acidification, climate change, as well as aquaculture disease issues and potential remedies. Having persons present who have experienced problems and successes, along with those in manufacturing and government responsible for addressing concerns and sharing best practices, was invaluable. Discussions among this cross-section of persons who represent different aspects of aquaculture were as important as the well-presented and interesting formal papers

Indonesia is located in a seismically prone area. During the Aceh 2004, Yogyakarta 2006, Padang 2009 earthquakes, many casualties were caused by the collapse of buildings. Due to lack of awareness, knowledge and skills, many of these buildings, particularly non-engineered houses, were rebuilt using non-seismic resistant techniques as used previously. In cooperation with the World Housing Encyclopedia (WHE), a strategic way for promoting improved seismic resistant construction to Indonesian builders has been implemented. Architectural and Civil engineering students are involved. A special tutorial is conducted periodically by seismic engineering experts to enable these students to learn practical seismic resistant techniques for designing and constructing single to two storey dwellings as well as multi storey reinforced concrete buildings. During their studies they are assigned to promote these techniques to the community at large and to builders in particular. A student e-network is set up to enable them to exchange ideas and encourage each other. The first phase of this effort is reported in this paper.
