Hybrid descriptor definition for content based image classification using fusion of handcrafted features to convolutional neural network features

The efficacy of content-based image classification is dependent on the richness of the feature vectors extracted from the image data. Traditional feature extraction techniques highlight single low level image characteristics like shape, size, texture, color etc. for feature generation. The process often fails to extract meaningful descriptors since considering a single image characteristic will ignore other rich properties of image contents. Mass adoption of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) has significantly improved classification performances for content-based image data. Recent literature has documented high level of precision for image classification by carrying out transfer learning with open source pre trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). However, the concept of transfer learning experiences major setback in case of limited training data due to overfitting of training instances during finetuning. This work has identified this challenge and has attempted to capture probability distribution of input images to a pre trained Convolution Neural Network by utilizing it as a fixed weight feature extractor. The proposed approach has addressed the overfitting problem by removing the finetuning step involved in transfer learning. Further investigation on robust descriptor definition is carried out by concatenating the pre-trained CNN features to handcrafted features. The hybrid architecture has encouraging outcomes that have outclassed the classification accuracies of state-of-the-art handcrafted techniques. © 2021, Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management.

In this study, nattokinase (NK) was microencapsulated in high-molecular-weight Na-γ-PGA, and the amount of NK added to the Na-γ-PGA was in the ratio of 1:1 and 2:1 w/w, which was designated as NK-100 and NK-200, respectively. The temperature and pH stability of microencapsulated NK were found to be higher than those of the free form. Free NK lost its overall initial activity after treatment at a temperature above 60 °C or at a pH less than 5.0 for 1 h. NK-100 and NK-200 retained 35% and 60% of their activities after exposure to an acidic condition of pH 4.0 and possessed 18% and 25% activity after treatment at 60 °C for 1 h, respectively. Furthermore, NK-100 and NK-200 exhibited more protective bioactivity than free NK did in storage stability tests. This simple and versatile approach can be potentially applied to the microencapsulation of various biomolecules for drug-delivery applications. © 2008 Swiss Society of food science and technology.

Based on the analysis of gradation scheme of motor vehicles situational background near a protected object of a critical infrastructure, the process of data collecting and filling the database and knowledgebase of the protected object main server as well as the procedure of violators' identification and collecting data on them is considered in the paper. After that, the structure of the control algorithm is described. The algorithm defines the application of information technology for the use of motor vehicles databases to prevent the terrorist emergencies.

The aim of this work was to perform chemical and physicochemical analysis of oil of the camu camu (Myrciaria dubia (H.B.K) Mc Vaugh) seeds obtained at Caçari beach, on the banks of the Cauamé river, in Boa Vista city, Roraima state, Brazil. From the seeds, the dark green oil was 2.88% yield. The physical and chemical properties of the oil through the1H and13C NMR spectra: iodine content (55.39 g I2 100g-1), saponification index (178.14 mg KOH g-1), acidity (1.46 mg KOH g-1), olefinic/aliphatic hydrogen ratio (0.36), average molecular weight (934.16 g mol-1). Analysis of the signal displacements in1H and13C NMR spectra confirmed the presence of the fatty acid functional groups and unsaturated fatty acid unsaturations, so the concentration of linolenic acid was 0.43%, acid 12.02% oleic, oleic was 62.49% and saturated fatty acids 25.10%. The quantitative analysis of minerals by ICP-OES showed concentrations of elements: K, Na, P, Si (> 100 ppm);Mg, S (10 to 100 ppm) and Ti (-1). Copyright © 2018, AIDIC Servizi S.r.l.

In this paper the resonant behavior of frequency selective surfaces, FSS, using matryoshka geometry is analyzed considering polarizations x and y. The basics of the FSS using matryoshka geometry are described for usual and open cases, including an expression to estimate the first resonant frequency. Initially, the FSS with two concentric square rings is considered and its resonant behavior analyzed. Then, the resonant behavior of FSS with two rings matryoshka geometry is examined. The analysis is based on the electric current distribution obtained using the commercial software ANSYS-Designer. With a better understanding of the resonance nature in matryoshka geometry the design parameters can be better adjusted and desired frequency responses properly achieved.

The aim of this work was to perform analysis of the a-tocopherol content by HPLC in Amazonian fruits consumed in Roraima state, Brazil, namely: ata brava, açaí, bacaba, buriti, buritirana, yellow murici, red murici, piaçaba braba, pupunha varieties red and yellow and tucumanzinho. A high concentration of the vitamin in the açaí pulp (1101.11 mg L-1) and of the ata brava seeds (644.27 mg L-1) was observed, but other fruits such as buritirana pulp (166.34 mg L-1), red murici (179.52 mg L-1), and piaçaba brava (8.77 mg L-1) presented low amounts of a-tocopherol. As for the yellow and red varieties of pupunha and the tucumanzinho, no presence of the isomer was detected. Identification and quantification of a-tocopherol cited in this work are unpublished for the ata brava, buritirana and red murici, as for the other fruits studied there were variations. Amazonian fruits may present a-tocopherol in its lipid composition, which is one of the most bioactive isomers of vitamin E, for this reason. Copyright © 2018, AIDIC Servizi S.r.l.

Extraction and Characterization of Starch Fractions of Five Phenotypes <i>Pachyrhizus tuberosus</i>(Lam.) Spreng

Pachyrhizus tuberosus is a native plant of short life cycle found in South America riverside, which provides easy starch extraction from its tuberous roots. The aim of this study was to determine the physicochemical, rheological and functionality of the starch granules extracted from the roots of five phenotypes identified as V2, V3, V4, V6 and V7. Protein and ash content of all phenotypes were considerable high when compared to other root sources such as cassava varying from 4.35% to 7.43% and 1.58% to 2.49%, respectively, whereas lipid content was lower, between 0.29 and 0.49%. The starch granules were mostly circular and polygonal with varied sizes. The starch granules structural conformation showed cristallinity A type, normally for cereals. The maximum pasting viscosity at 95℃ ranged from 1644 cP (V7) to 2232 cP (V2). The initial temperature of pasting formation occurred at 69.4℃ for V2, 71.5℃ for V3, 87.9℃ for V4, 69.5℃ for V6 and 71.5℃ for V7. These values showed high variability within the phenotypes and generally high for roots and tubers starches. The maximum viscosity at 95℃ for V2, V3, V4, V6 and V7 were 2232, 2150, 1995, 2214 and 1644 cP, respectively. The viscosity curves showed low tendency to retrogradation. The thermal properties showed that the enthalpy of gelatinization varied from 8.91 J/g (V3) to 11.78 J/g (V2). The initial gelatinization temperature varied from 63.19℃ (V6) to 65.14℃ (V4). The swelling power at 90℃ ranged from 14.7% to 20.1% p/p and solubility from 10.3% (V2) to 27.2% (V7). It is concluded that Pachyrhizus tuberosus starch showed low retrogradation (1320 - 1560 cP) comparable to non-common native waxy starches, a feature which indicates the capability of using this natural and easy extraction starch source as gelling agent in certain manufactured food of undesirable retrogradation.

Aluminum is one of the most abundant metals in the earth's crust. Although it shows no known biological function, it is recognized as an adjuvant in vaccines for human and veterinary uses. This study aims to evaluate the role of lifestyle and environment in the promotion of chronic disease. In it, we associated two factors: chronic exposure to aluminum and high-fat diets. Thus, we aimed to determine whether the association of long-term exposure to aluminum and high-fat diets affects the NTPDase and 5′-nucleotidase activities in the blood platelets and lymphocytes obtained from the mesenteric lymph nodes of young rats. In fact, the ectonucleotidase activities were shown to be upregulated upon exposure to aluminum plus high-fat diets. As a result, we can suggest that the progressive upregulation of ectonucleotidase activities that we observed could be controlling the extent of inflammation and immune response. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

In this era of digital world information, farmers face challenges about information management of huge data and the complexity of processes in precision farming. The data collection carried out so far can cause several difficulties, especially if the data is needed by the government or academics to support decision-making. Agricultural data collection applications only cover 12% of the market share of Android-based agriculture-based applications. In this study, Tani Milenial application is present as an alternative to support agricultural data collection activities in Indonesia. This application encourages farmers to be active and contribute independently to their role as subjects of agricultural development and is accustomed to digitally recording their agricultural activities. In this developed application system, the community, especially farmers and farmer groups, will find it easier to get information about agricultural potential data around where they carry out agricultural activities and can access this information online. Tani Milenial works as a guide to help farmers and transform agriculture but still have some gaps which should be checked and removed. The data collected can be used by various parties for research and decision-making. The app can be further improved to develop new features related to education, market information, and goods. © 2022 IEEE.

Alternative materials for use in electronic devices have grown interest in the past recent years. In this paper, the heterojunction SnO2/Al2O3 is tested concerning its use as a transparent insulating layer for use in FETs. The alumina layer is obtained by thermal annealing of metallic Al layer, deposited by resistive evaporation technique. Combination of undoped SnO2, deposited by sol-gel-dip-coating technique, and Al thermally annealed in O2-rich atmosphere, leads to fair insulation when the number of aluminum oxide layers is 4, with 0.3% of the current lost through the gate terminal as leakage current. This insulation is not obtained for devices with alumina layer treated for long time, under room atmosphere, due to degradation of the insulating film and interfusion with the conduction channel even using Sb-doped SnO2. The annealing of Al deposited on soda-lime glass substrate leads also to the formation of a Si layer, crystallized at Substrate/Al2O3 interface. The conclusion is that for an efficient insulation the thermal annealing must be short and then, O2-rich atmospheres are preferred.
