Cassava is an agricultural material that is considered as important raw resources in the industrial sector. The benefits are even greater after being modified using lactic acid bacteria. However, the mocaf industry often causes water and air pollution. Environmental problems arise after the fermentation process. Determination problems with lightness, TDS (Total Dissolved Solid), conductivity and pH analysis are required to measure the impact to the environment. This research was used waste water from mocaf during 3 days fermentation. The wastewater had the highest color level (Lightness) on initial day of fermentation at 83.7±3.73 and then decrease along the day of fermentation at the averages of 65.2±2.0. The highest TDS was resulted from the mocaf wastewater at a value of 1218 ± 4.6 ppm which continued to decline until day 4. The conductivity and pH showed a decrease along the day of fermentation. As conclusion, physical characteristic of wastewater from mocaf production could be analyzed specifically and determined through color, TDS, conductivity, and pH. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Nutrition is one of the most important parameters involved in modulating skin health and condition. In this regard, the demand for natural compounds capable of promoting skin health and beauty has been attracting the attention of researchers and companies around the world. An interesting option to meet this demand is the use of Spirulina microalga, which has biotechnological potential, including several functional and nutritional applications. Although this microalga has been used in human nutrition since ancient times, it now has new applications and is being studied as a promising ingredient for nutricosmetics. The present review article summarizes Spirulina's most relevant activities, mainly its biologically active metabolites, which are interesting ingredients for nutricosmetic formulations and an important advance for skin care. In vitro simulated gastrointestinal digestion and bioaccessibility of phenolic compounds and antioxidants of soursop (Annona muricata L.) peel and pulp

We evaluated the nutritional composition and quantified the bioactive compounds present in the soursop pulp and peel and investigated the impact of in vitro simulated gastrointestinal digestion on antioxidants and phenolic compounds of soursop. Soursop peel had a significant amount of fiber (17.6 g.100 g−1 w.b.), particularly insoluble fiber (16.8 g.100 g−1 w.b.), and higher levels of total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity than pulp. The pulp has 30% higher levels of ascorbic acid than the peel (40.2 mg ascorbic acid 100 g−1). Gallic acid, benzoic acid, coumaric acid, ferulic acid, and hesperidin were detected in the peel and pulp of soursop. After in vitro simulated gastrointestinal digestion, results show that total phenolic compounds of the peel exhibited stability throughout the gastric and intestinal stages. In the pulp, simulated digestion showed an increase in total phenolic compounds on enteric II stage. About antioxidant compounds, peel showed stability in DPPH assay and higher accessibility in the enteric II stages (40% and 29%) on ABTS and FRAP assays. Soursop pulp increased accessibility in the gastric stage on DPPH and FRAP assay. In the ABTS assay, soursop pulp showed the highest values in enteric phase II. The in vitro accessibility of these compounds offers insights into their potential utilization by the organism. This knowledge holds significant implications for nutrition experts, as it can advise the development of healthier dietary habits. © 2024

Ovarian cancer remains the third most prevalent and deadliest gynecologic malignancy worldwide, with most patients eventually developing resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy. This highlights a critical unmet need for innovative multitargeted therapies to address current treatment challenges. In this study, we identified 35 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) through integrated analysis of four GEO ovarian cancer datasets, with validation using TCGA data. Gene Ontology (GO) and KEGG enrichment analyses highlighted key tumor-associated pathways, and protein–protein interaction (PPI) network modeling prioritized CDK1 and TTK as high-value therapeutic targets. We evaluated the association between molecular genomic features and drug responses across the NCI-60 ovarian cancer cell line panel (IGROV1, OVCAR-3, OVCAR-4, OVCAR-5, OVCAR-8, NCI/ADR-RES, and SK-OV-3), using a series of salicylanilide-derived compounds and four FDA-approved drugs (cabozantinib, paclitaxel, rapamycin, and niclosamide) from the NCI Developmental Therapeutics program (DTP). Among these, NSC765690 (MCC22) emerged as the most promising candidate. It demonstrated potent antiproliferative activity, high target selectivity, and strong binding affinity to both CDK1 and TTK. Multi-omics integration, combined with AI-driven network modeling, further elucidated NSC765690's mechanism of action and its relevance to ovarian cancer pathogenesis. Additionally, ADMET and pharmacokinetic profiling confirmed its favorable drug-like properties and low predicted toxicity. Collectively, these findings establish NSC765690 as a potent dual-target inhibitor and exemplify a rational, data-driven drug discovery pipeline for overcoming chemotherapy resistance in ovarian cancer.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a pervasive developmental disorder that will affect children in terms of interpersonal communication, social interaction, and imaginative levels in play. Many therapies to help the motor neuron performance is one of them Pretend Play. Pretend Play is a therapy that invites children in playing to demonstrate something else and tell how to use objects that are considered in the child's imagination. However, in the era of highly developed technology, many fields have used the Augmented Reality method as a visualization of various aspects. With this method researchers will present the therapeutic visualization of the block to 3D transportation tool that is useful for strengthening motor nerves and visual strength of the child. The system can run well during marker detection, marker movement, and 3D object display with the accuracy of precision angle and distance between virtual world with real world reach 100% with angle 0 at distance 31 cm and the maximum distance from the marker is 46 cm and the maximum angle is 30. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Electrospinning encapsulation is a highly viable method to protect bioactive compounds and prevent their degradation. Hence, this study produced ultrafine fibers based on yellow and white sweet potato starches and a red onion skin extract (ROSE;0, 3, 6, and 9 %, w/w) using electrospinning. The fibers were evaluated for morphology, thermogravimetric properties, antioxidant, in vitro release simulation, thermal resistance (100 and 180 °C), and wettability. The fibers with ROSE presented 251–611 nm diameters, 67–78 % loading capacity, and 51.6–95.4 and 13.4–99.4 % thermal resistance (100 and 180 °C, respectively);apigenin presented the highest thermal protection. The phenolic compounds showed low release using 10 % ethanol and greater release with 50 % ethanol. The fibers with 9 % ROSE showed 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline) 6-sulfonic acid radical inhibition above 92 %. The ultrafine fibers and the unencapsulated ROSE showed inhibitory action against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus;only unencapsulated ROSE showed bactericidal activity. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

The industrial landscape has witnessed a growing demand for components exhibiting superior performance and extended lifespan, especially in parts made of stainless steels like AISI 409 steel, widely used in automotive exhaust systems, heat exchangers, and lightweight structural components. This study investigates the enhancement of surface properties of AISI 409 stainless steel through cathodic cage plasma nitriding (CCPN) and cathodic cage plasma deposition (CCPD) processes, focusing on the novel implementation of duplex treatments. The research aims to improve the mechanical strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of the steel by forming nitrides and vanadium nitride films on its surface. The duplex treatments, specifically N400D450 and N450D450, were found to significantly enhance the hardness of AISI 409 stainless steel, with the N450D450 sample achieving a maximum hardness of 1100 HV—a 461.22% increase compared to the untreated steel. This enhancement is attributed to the formation of a thick, uniform nitrided layer followed by a vanadium nitride film. The critical role of processing order was highlighted, with the sequence of nitriding followed by deposition proving more effective than the reverse. Corrosion resistance was markedly improved in the duplex-treated samples. The N450D450 sample exhibited an Ecorr of -198 mV and reduced jcorr values, indicating superior resistance to corrosive environments. These results underscore the synergistic effect of combining nitriding and vanadium deposition, which optimizes the formation of protective surface layers. Overall, this study demonstrates that duplex treatments significantly enhance the surface properties of AISI 409 stainless steel, offering the potential for extended component lifespan and reduced maintenance in industrial applications. The findings suggest that careful control of process parameters and treatment sequence is essential for achieving optimal results. © 2024, The Authors. All rights

A dip-coating process is proposed for preparation of TiO2 thin films from a segregated fluid system. To study its effects, by changing the height of the floating, less dense phase, it was possible to modify the main draining mechanism, which has decreased agglomerate size during gelification process. By reducing the amount of volume adhered to the emerging substrate it was possible to shift the draining regime mechanism towards the capillary regime, a change mostly observed before only in slower emerging deposition rates. It was also found that further reduction in adhered volume decreased the size of agglomerates during deposition, which affected transparency and electrical conductivity of prepared films. A further increase in floating phase height was shown to lower roughness in film surface. This has lead to a better coupled interface in TiO2/SnO2 heterostructure, as seen by type II hererojunction behavior, when TiO2 films, deposited on top of a SnO2 films, are prepared with solutions with 0.6 cm of floating phase height. © 2023, The Authors. This paper shows the building of an embedded Asterisk platform as a key technique for providing Information technology classes with an extra laboratorial environment for learning Voice over Internet Protocol. Besides building the platform, the students are asked to mount a functional telephony system with it that meets the criteria of low cost, low building complexity and high adaptability to convergent networks. The Raspberry PI version B was the board used to provide portability for the students to work outside the laboratory environment. Asterisk was presented as a useful tool on which the students could create a flexible system that could be easily deployed on convergent networks. This work was developed in the Telephony subject for the Electrical Engineering and the Telecommunications Systems undergraduate courses from the Federal Institute of Education, science and technology of Paraíba - IFPB, and presented good results in the students' learning achievements.

Estimating arsenic biotransfer factors from feed to chicken: a viable approach to animal feed risk assessment

Reliable biotransfer factor (BTF) data are critical for animal-feed studies in human risk assessment. A wide range of BTF values have been reported (0.0015–0.83 d/kg), expressed as the ratio of total arsenic (tAs) concentration (µg/kg) in chicken to daily intake rate (µg/d) of tAs in feed (tAs/tAs). Data on inorganic As (iAs) for chicken meat and tAs concentrations for feed were obtained from our related study. Using the linear regression technique developed in this study, we estimated the BTF as 0.016 d/kg, as iAs/tAs (R 2 > 0.7702) and 0.55 d/kg as tAs/tAs (R 2 = 0.9743) for whole chicken meat. From a mass-balance perspective, we suggest that tAs be used as the denominator for the BTF unit. To illustrate our feed-risk assessment method, we analyzed commercial feeds for tAs concentration (n = 79). Consumption data for the general population (n = 2479) were obtained from a Taiwanese total diet study. Bivariate Monte Carlo simulations (n = 10,000) showed that the 95th percentile (P95) of estimated daily intake (EDI) was 0.002 µg/kg body weight (bw)/d as iAs ( © 2023 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
