Real-time optimization using gradient adaptive selection and classification from infrared sensors measurement for esterification oleic acid with glycerol

Purpose-The production of glycerol derivatives by the esterification process is subject to many constraints related to the yield of the production target and the lack of process *** accurate monitoring and controlling of the process can improve production yield and *** purpose of this paper is to propose a real-time optimization(RTO)using gradient adaptive selection and classification from infrared sensor measurement to cover various disturbances and uncertainties in the ***/methodology/approach-The integration of the esterification process optimization using self-optimization(SO)was developed with classification process was combined with necessary condition optimum(NCO)as gradient adaptive selection,supported with laboratory scaled medium wavelength infrared(mid-IR)sensors,and measured the proposed optimization system indicator in the batch *** Process Modeling and Notation(BPMN 2.0)was built to describe the tasks of SO workflow in collaboration with NCO as an abstraction for the conceptual ***,Stateflow modeling was deployed to simulate the three states of gradient-based adaptive control combined with support vector machine(SVM)classification and Arduino microcontroller for ***-This new method shows that the real-time optimization responsiveness of control increased product yield up to 13 percent,lower error measurement with percentage error 1.11 percent,reduced the process duration up to 22 minutes,with an effective range of stirrer rotation set between 300 and 400 rpm and final temperature between 200 and 210℃ which was more efficient,as it consumed less *** limitations/implications-In this research the authors just have an experiment for the esterification process using glycerol,but as a development concept of RTO,it would be possible to apply for another chemical reaction or *** implications-This research introduces new development of an RTO approach to optimal con

A closed-loop scheme of a high-gain multiphase switched-capacitor coupled-inductor (MSCCI) converter is proposed by combining a phase generator and pulse-width-modulation-based (PWM-based) gain compensator for step-up DC-DC conversion and regulation. The power part between source VS and output VO contains a three-stage serial-parallel switched-capacitor (SC) circuit plus a coupled-inductor device, and it raises the voltage gain up to 4[(n+1)+(1+nD)/(1-D)] at most, where D means the duty cycle of PWM and n is trun ratio of coupled inductor. Practically, this MSCCI can boost the voltage gain up to 44 when D=0.5, n=4. Further, the PWM technique is adopted not only to enhance the output regulation for the compensation of the dynamic error between the practical and desired outputs, but also to reinforce output robustness against source or loading variation. Finally, the closed-loop MSCCI is designed by SPICE and simulated for some cases: steady-state and dynamic responses. All results are illustrated to show the efficacy of the proposed scheme.

A closed-loop scheme of a high-gain serial-parallel-switched-capacitor coupled-inductor (SPSCCI) boost DC-AC inverter is proposed by combining a two-phase generator and sinusoidal pulse-width-modulation (SPWM) controller for low-power step-up DC-AC conversion and regulation. In this inverter, the power part is composed of SPSCCI booster and half-bridge DC-link. This booster is a 4-stage SC circuit plus combining a coupled-inductor, and it raises the voltage gain up to [4(n+1)+(1+nD)/(1-D)] at most via two-phase operation, where D is the duty cycle and n is the turn ratio of coupled-inductor. The DC-link is a half-bridge circuit in order to convert the DC voltage into AC via SPWM control for realizing the range of sinusoidal output: +0.5[4(n+1)+(1+nD)/(1-D)]VS~ -0.5[4(n+1)+(1+nD)/(1-D)]VS. Practically, the maximum output voltage can reach 26.0 times voltage of source VS while D=0.5, n=4. Here, the SPWM is employed to enhance regulation capability for the different output amplitude and frequency, as well as robustness to source/loading variation. Finally, the closed-loop SPSCCI inverter is designed and simulated by SPICE for some cases: steady-state and dynamic responses. All results are illustrated to show the efficacy of the proposed scheme.

Navigating unfamiliar places is a common problem pilgrim face during Hajj. There exists few research-based applications that provide support but are less suited for highly crowded situations such as Hajj religious event. Therefore there is need to investigate support systems for use in large crowded events. Towards Developing an Intelligent HAJJ Guide system is a PhD thesis that investigates the issues of guidance for pilgrim and how it can make Hajj more suitable for pilgrims who navigate in groups in unfamiliar areas. This paper is will present the mean findings of the PhD dissertation. © 2017 IEEE.

Statics is a backbone course for several engineering disciplines and also a pre-requisite for dynamics and mechanics of materials. Researchers have identified a lack of understanding of statics as a significant source of difficulties in terms of both conceptual understanding, representation of free body diagrams (FBD) and problem-solving ability. Our approach to improve the learning of the concept of friction focuses on students' understanding of acting forces and specific components of such forces of a system. The presented quasi-experimental study investigates how the use of visuo-haptic simulations can improve students understanding and use of FBD. Specifically, we compared two visuo-haptic simulations; one that explicitly visually depicts FBD of multiple objects interacting with different surfaces, while the other only provides haptic feedback while students engage in the same forms of interaction. Our results suggest that using the visuo-haptic simulator with FBD leads to better learning results. These findings support the hypothesis that appropriately sequenced visuo-haptic simulators with well-designed visual cues can help students to better understand and use FBD.

The inventory control systems has an important role to monitor the condition of the goods at the supply chain stage of goods distribution from the central warehouse to retail in accordance with consumer demand. The research aims to develop inventory control systems on the supply chain distribution of goods from suppliers to retail through the central warehouse with minimal supply chain costs. Minimization of supply chain cost using martingale model of forecast evaluation, and the result as the basis for calculation of safety stock and reorder point. The results of research are the system that can be used to control inventory and renewal of goods in the central warehouse by calculating the minimization of supply chain cost based on consumer demand. Case studies were conducted on the supply chain distribution of goods from the central warehouse to the retail in Semarang. The observation data derived from the goods distribution from central warehouse to retail for certain products over 4 time periods. Through such inventory control system, can minimize supply chain cost, and product inventory level can be maintained in time and amount of inventory that must be fulfilled. © 2018 IEEE.

This paper discusses the effect of pH on the various properties of the self-healing mortars (SHM). The bacteria induced structures have the ability to heal cracks generated on its surfaces by precipitating minerals inside the pores which bio mimics the natural healing processes occurring in nature, thus being an environment friendly technology that contributes in maintaining the structural durability. The microbiologically induced precipitation accelerates at different rates at different conditions. Hence an attempt has been made to analyse the changes in the properties in mortar cubes induced with 105 cells/ml concentration of Bacillus megaterium solution and subjecting them to different curing media at different pH conditions. The healing efficiency of the cracks induced in the mortar cubes are evaluated visually for successive days. Through X-ray Diffraction analysis the white powder covering crack surface is confirmed to be calcite. The percentage reduction in the compressive strength of the samples after healing was found to be only 3% after 28 days of curing. The findings of the paper suggest promising application of self-healing mortar cubes at different geographical locations by varying the amount of bacterial solution.

At the Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe determining accident-prone areas on roads in Lhokseumawe still using manual systems. Determination of accident-prone areas are less effective because the police Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe just using the data of the last year and had to repeatedly calculate manually accident-prone areas based on the number of human casualties. In this study the system implementation CUSUM method (Cummulative Summary) to determine the accident-prone areas designed using the web-based programming language PHP. In this system there are three processes to determine areas prone to accidents, the accident rate calculations based on the weighted severity, blacksite calculations using the Z-Score method for determining areas prone to accident blackspots and calculations using the CUSUM method to determine the critical points of an accident. The data used are secondary data obtained from the Police Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe years 2009-2013. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Facilitating non-contact measurement,a computer-imaging system was devised and evaluated to predict the chlorophyll content in potato leaves.A charge-coupled device(CCD)camera paired with two optical filters and light chamber was used to acquire green(550±40 nm)and red band(700±40 nm)images from the same *** leaves from 15 plants differing in coloration(green to yellow)and age were selected for this *** based image features,such as mean and variances of green and red band images,were extracted from the *** analyses demonstrated that the variations in SPAD meter reading could be explained by themeangrayandvariances of gray scale *** fitted least square models based on the mean gray scale levels were inversely related to the chlorophyll content of the potato leaf with a R^2 of 0.87 using a green band image and with an R2 of 0.79 using a red band *** the extracted four image features,the developed multiple linear regression model predicted the chlorophyll content with a high R^2 of 0.88).The multiple regression model(using all features)provided an average prediction accuracy of 85.08% and amaximum accuracy of 99.8%.The prediction model using only mean gray value of red band showed an average accuracy of 81.6% with a maximum accuracy of 99.14%.

The current rapid assessment of post-earthquake damaged houses has been done manually. The determination of the damage level is also very subjective. Moreover, the available time during a rapid assessment and limited number of enumerators lead to ineffective decisions for responses and assistances. There are several application had appeared trying to answer the problems, but still they have many types of data that need to be input and even need a lot of time to process. The system design to be simple, more user-friendly and time efficient to be operated during the assessment. This study is aimed to develop a conceptual design of a system to collect data of houses damaged by earthquake using mobile application which propose to work both online and offline. The system will consists of five components: mobile device, user, data center (web server and database), internet, and data processing center (administrator and manager to verify and analyze the data). The application design to be integrated with Google Maps containing concise data entry to facilitate users (trained users and common users) and to shorten the time of data collection. Final collected data will be presented through the website and perform descriptive and spatial analysis.
