Representing the signal power at a studied environment through a mathematical model is one major challenge of signal propagation study. In this work is proposed an empirical Autoregressive Moving-Average (ARMA) model for signal strength prediction in indoor environments. This paper presents an open-end winding permanent magnet synchronous generator system with reduced controlled switch count, which may be applied to Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS). The configuration is obtained from the blend of a three-phase controlled rectifier (composed only of controlled switches), a non-controlled rectifier (composed only of diodes) and an open-end winding machine. A detailed model and a PWM control strategy of the systems, including the synchronism technique are presented to ensure the elimination of zero-crossover distortion normally caused by the use of diodes. Simulation and experimental results are also presented.

This paper investigates a three-phase shunt power filter based on three standard three-phase interconnected converters. Compared with the usual three-phase shunt filter, the proposed converter permits to reduce the dc-link voltages and reduce either harmonic distortion or switching frequency. Control strategies suitable to control the filter and circulating currents as well as the three dc-link voltages are presented. A PWM strategy is designed to command the converter according to the reference voltage generated by the controllers. Simulation and experimental results are presented.

In this paper a hybrid topology of Modular Multilevel Cascade Converter (MMCC) - Double-Star Chopper-Cells (DSCC) is proposed. This configuration is applied as a unidirectional controlled single-phase rectifier, wherein one of the converter legs is composed by diodes instead of the submodules (SMs) connections. In order to ensure the energy balance among the local SM capacitors, a voltage balancing control strategy is also presented. Besides, a grid current control strategy associated to a method that eliminates zero-crossing distortion caused by the diode leg is proposed, resulting in a power-factor correction (PFC) and a sinusoidal grid current. Experimental results are presented and allow validating the control strategies.

This paper proposes a new control strategy for energy efficiency improvement of three-phase induction motors (TIM) with variable load. Main control is based on Indirect Field-Oriented (IFOC) which shows a good performance of torque and speed. Additionaly it is proposed a new loss model based controller in order to optimize the active power consumed by TIM for different load conditions. Matlab simulations are performed to test the proposed strategy for different loads where the optimal flux is found. The strategy is also tested using PSIM simulation where the drive system is included. To verify the approach in real conditions a motor drive prototype was assembled and experimental results are presented.

In this paper an Active Power Line Conditioner (APLC) is proposed based on a Modular Multilevel Cascade Converter (MMCC) - Double Star Chopper Cells (DSCC) topology. A higher-voltage, low-switching frequency IGBT converter is used to achieve harmonic minimization. Compared to the conventional APLC topology, the proposed approach employs lower DC-link voltage, lower voltage in the power devices, flexible output voltage level, fault protection, less prone to noise, loss reduction, among others features considered in this work. Experimental results show that the proposed active power filter topology is capable of minimizing load harmonics and compensating reactive power at the Point of Commom Coupling (PCC).

This paper presents two ac machine drive systems based on three-phase to five-phase ac-ac converters and open-windings five-phase machine. The drive systems are suitable to applications in which high power, performance and reliability are required using low power and voltage switches and low dc-link capacitor voltages. The configuration I employs an input transformer with two secondary taps at the grid side, two three-phase three-leg converters and one ten-leg converter (totalling sixteen legs). The configuration II employs a low-power series transformer at the grid side, two three-phase three-leg converters, and one ten-leg converter. Both configurations permit to reduce the power and voltage ratings of power switches and also the dc-link capacitor size. The paper presents the comprehensive models of the proposed systems, modulation strategies and a general comparison with conventional configuration. Simulated and experimental results are presented.

Nowadays, to improve power quality and power demand, several studies point to the use of Active Power Line Conditioners (APLCs) and Distributed Generation (DG), both based on power electronic devices. Considering various distributed power devices with cooperative operation, the strategies evaluation to compensate harmonics and correct power factor (PF) in Electric Power System (EPS) is only possible to be investigated by simulation. In this work, it is proposed a Power Hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) system for testing the APLCs operation. The proposed PHIL system can evaluate the performance of the APLC control strategies and EPS dynamic response under APLC operation. Furthermore, the same platform can be used to integrating DGs with the EPS as it also uses power electronic devices.

This paper presents a topology based on the interconnection of single-phase H-bridge converters and a three-phase converter acting as a shunt active power filter. Contributions for the model, PWM approach and control strategies are presented to the studied converter. As compared to the conventional solution by using just H-bridges converters, the proposed one reduces the number of semiconductor and storage devices while keeping the same characteristics of high number of levels. A comprehensive THD analysis will be considered followed by simulated and experimental outcomes.
