In this work it is presented an AC-DC-AC synchronization technique that aims to reduce the DC-link current oscillation. The technique is applied to a reduced component count single-phase back-to-back Currente Source Converters (CSC). The deduction of how the DC-link oscillation is influenced by both input and output angles is presented. In this paper, three configurations of three-phase ac-dc cascaded converters are presented. They are referred as basic configurations, and are composed by two three-phase bridges, where the second bridge is cascaded to the first by means of a three-phase injection transformer. Basic configurations have one bidirectional option (composed only by IGBT switches), and two unidirectional ones (composed by IGBT and diodes). Their generalizations, which are composed by an indefinite number of cascaded three-phase bridges, are also proposed. Each additional cascaded bridge is a three-phase IGBT bridge and requires one additional three-phase injection transformer. Transformers turns ratios are calculated in order to maximize the number of levels produced in the ac side of each rectifier, enhancing power quality. Basic configurations are compared by means of simulations between themselves and with the conventional three-phase IGBT bridge, to show that proposed multilevel rectifiers present better performance in terms of ac power quality drew from the ac source, with lower semiconductor losses. Experimental results are also exposed for the basic configurations to validate them and show their feasibility.

A switch machine is an electromechanical device that allows railway trains to be guided from one track to another. Among all possible faults that can occur in a switch machine, the three mains ones are: lack of lubrication, lack of adjustment and malfunction of a component. Aiming to classify these faults, an important contribution of this work is to address the height type-reduction and interval singleton type-2 fuzzy logic system derivatives. The computational simulations are performed with real data set provided by a Brazilian company of the railway sector. The obtained results are compared with other models reported in the literature (Bayes theory, multilayer perceptron neural network and type-1 fuzzy logic system), demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed classifier and revealing that the proposal is able to properly handle with uncertainties associated with the measurements and with the data that are used to tune the parameters of the model. In addition, the convergence speed and performance analysis show that the proposed interval singleton type-2 fuzzy logic system is attractive for classifying faults in a switch machine.

In this paper we present a method to simultaneously design a static state feedback gain and the trigger function to stabilize discrete-time LTI systems subject to actuator saturation under an event-triggered strategy. We derive LMI-based conditions that ensure local (or global, when possible) asymptotic stability of the origin based on the Lyapunov theory. To tune the parameters, we propose convex optimization problems aiming at reducing the sampling activity. The efficiency of the proposed method is illustrated by numerical examples.

Beamforming front-ends are an attractive technology because it concentrates its radiated power in one direction, which can improve energy efficiency and reduce undesirable interference. In this context, electronic beamforming systems have lower cost than mechanical ones. Knowing the uses of directive antennas and power dividers in electronic beamforming systems, this work aims at the design, simulation and measurements of these components at 5.8 GHz. Measurements with Power Divider showed very good return and insertion losses at 5.8 GHz: S 11 = -23.5 dB and S 21 = -3.8 dB. A printed dipole antenna was then fabricated, presenting -14.6 dB of return losses and a 2.82 dBi gain. Later, a 2-antenna beamforming front-end was implemented, proving the beamforming capability with the proposed devices. It also presented S 11 = -15.7 dB, and a high directive gain (10.3 dBi). Since this is still a preliminary work, the results presented are very promising.
