In this paper we proposed an approach based on genetic algorithm (GA) and digital image processing (DIP) to deal with the problem of cutting identical items (pieces) with irregular shapes in metal plates (objects). The goal is to maximize the number of items to be cut in the available area of the object. In this approach both object and the items are depicted as color images. The GA is responsible for generating the solutions, each one represented by a vector containing a set of translations and angles that indicate the positions and orientations for cutting the pieces. The evaluation of each solution generated by GA is performed by an image analysis algorithm that basically detects overlapping among the items placed on the object. Preliminary experiments indicate that the use of GA combined with DIP is a good alternative for solving the investigated problem. © 2015 ACM.

This paper shows an analysis of the interaction of the electromagnetic field generated by a tablet with three different models of human heads: a homogeneous model Specific Anthropomorphic Mannequin (SAM) and two heterogeneous models: an adult man and a child. The assessing dosimetric parameters used are the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) computed by SEMCAD X. The distance between the tablet and the head models varies from 50 mm to 200 mm. The SAR decreases with the distance. The higher SAR values were obtained for SAM while the smaller for the adult. All the results are below the safety recommendations from the International Commission Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and the Federal Communications Committee (FCC). © 2015 IEEE.

The term crystal structure is understood as a set of atoms periodically distributed in space, forming a lattice. The composite material, bone, contains an organic part consisted of collagen and an inorganic part consisted predominantly of hydroxyapatite crystals, having the molecular formula Ca 10 (PO4) 6 (OH) 2 in its unit cell. The crystal structure of hydroxyapatite can indicate the trabecular bone quality, by the identification of crystallite size, microhardness, microstrain and ratio of calcium and phosphorus in bones of three types: normal, osteopenic or osteoporotic. Osteoporosis is defined by the National Institute of Health as a skeletal disorder characterized by compromised bone strength and increased risk of fracture. Dried trabecular bones of vertebrae L1 columns of nine human cadavers from the São Paulo City Morgue were used. Before sample collection, they were pre-divided into three groups: normal, osteopenic or osteoporotic, through quantitative ultrasound of the calcaneus. The characterization of the three types of bones was made by electron microscopy scanning, microanalysis by energy dispersive spectrometry, microhardness and powder X-ray diffraction with application of the Rietveld method. The results showed a decrease of the crystallite size, hardness, ratio of calcium and phosphorus, trabecular number and bone density and an increase in microstrain values suggesting greater fragility and disruption in the crystalline structure of hydroxyapatite in osteopenic and osteoporotic bone. Microstructural characterization of hydroxyapatite crystals in dry trabecular bone could differentiate the three types of bones (normal, osteopenic and osteoporotic) and supplement assessment of osteoporosis, with an emphasis on bone quality.

Water-spraying is regarded as an effective method to reduce the weight loss of product during vacuum cooling *** study aimed to investigate the effect of vacuum cooling factors on the weight loss of postharvest broccoli,and attempted to optimize the treatment conditions by simulated annealing(SA)*** algorithm based on simulated annealing meta-heuristic technique was developed to identify the optimum condition for vacuum cooling treatment of *** demonstrated that the SA algorithm could adjust well with the simulation of the broccoli cooling *** best condition was at 200 Pa of pressure,274 g broccoli,6% of water volume and 40 min processing *** this condition,a product with only 0.35% of weight loss and 1.48℃ final temperature was *** developed method may help to effectively control the weight loss during vacuum cooling process and reducing the economic loss.

Laryngeal pathologies directly affect the quality of the voice. In the last years, digital signal processing techniques have been applied for detection of vocal fold pathologies through speech signal analysis. In this work, a binary Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm using Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) neural network is employed for the selection of the most significative features in a pathological voice detection system. The discrimination between healthy and pathological speech signals are obtained by 52 Haralick texture features, extracted from two-dimensional wavelet coefficients of the speech signals recurrence plots. The fitness function adopted is based in the maxima accuracy rate. Experimental results show that the use of PSO increased the accuracy rates with a minimum number of features.

programmability is one of the key factors on software defined networks (SDN), once it allows to decouple between data plan and control plan. However, in such context, managing several applications' inputs and outputs is a little explored task on controllers field, which are not in a controlled and organized environment. This article proposes a method to make SDN applications to reach the administrator, allow him to manage his use in the network. This proposal is validated through performance tests in the repository, which stores the applications, along with developed modules to help its management and control, making the organization and coordination method safe, efficient and adjustable to any controller on software-defined network.

This work aimed to produce a biodiesel from oils used in restaurants of São Paulo, Brazil, to discover the power production city and to demonstrate its economical feasibility. For this, it has been researched in the Brazilian market sales prices of glycerin, carbon credit, biodiesel and diesel blend, well as well, the amount of B20 blend (70.1 103 m3/month) used by the bus fleet of São Paulo and the amount of residual oil generated by restaurants. During the collection of frying oil samples used in restaurants, it has applied a standardized questionnaire (1-5 Likert scale) to the manager, in which contained questions about the type of restaurant, the amount of frying oil produced and if he knew the environmental impacts of its disposal. Ethanol was mixed at 1:7 to the samples of cooking oils collected from restaurants and it was transesterified at 60 °C, for 1 h, in order to obtain biodiesel, using NaOH as a catalyst. Results showed that the restaurants had a monthly consumption of 120 L, giving 3.6 103 m3/month;it is equivalent to 48 % of B100 used in bus fleet. A conversion yield of 87 % has found in this work and with its production is possible to reduce US$ 120 million per year the fuel cost. Also it is possible contribute to the reduction or elimination of indiscriminate disposal of oils;of 92 % of sulfur emissions and to acquire the carbon credits which improve the city's image as it becomes an environmentally friendly city.
