Road infrastructure asset management strategy and its impact on the environment

The development of the economic sector is determined by services to the public through reforms that aim to place public satisfaction through the management of road infrastructure assets. Some research on road infrastructure assets still requires a deepening of studies related to the delivery of public services related to asset management systems. The purpose of this study is to find an appropriate road infrastructure asset management strategy through an integrated asset management system and asset management policies that can provide public satisfaction. This comprehensive approach to management strategies ensures that the performance of service provider assets is in line with the expectations of stakeholders including road users. This descriptive qualitative research is based on the perspective of road users as respondents, consisting of vehicle drivers from 50 transportation companies (people or goods) through interviews and observations. The results show aspects of asset performance based on the user's perspective there are five aspects, namely productivity, efficiency, effectiveness, use of resources and institutions and this performance is integrated in the asset management system related to policies from the management authority through service delivery namely quality and mobility, risk and use and maintenance of resources. The conclusion of this research is that road infrastructure asset services can be improved through the concept of road infrastructure asset management strategies in an integrated management system with five aspects of performance and more directed towards asset management policies related to the provision of road infrastructure asset services.

Properties of concrete paving blocks made with nickel slags

This study is a follow-up of nickel slag waste used for building construction materials. Paving blocks were made using a mixture of cement and aggregates in a ratio of 1: 3 and 1: 5 which used a mixture of nickel slag waste and natural sand with aggregate gradation in zone III of the rather fine sand category based on SNI 03-2834-2000. Sand substitution with nickel slag waste has used a variation of the composition of the mixture of 0% (without slag), 25%, 75%, and 100% (without sand). The behaviour would be obtained the compressive strength value of paving blocks and average water absorption. Paving blocks compressive strength were tested at the age of 28 days, while the average value of water absorption was performed by immersing the paving block specimens for 24 hours. The physical strength and absorption value of paving block water refer to SNI 03-0691-1996. The results showed that the use of nickel slag waste in making paving blocks could increase the compressive strength of paving blocks, while water absorption in all compositions and variations of the paving blocks mixture was decreased in line with the increase of nickel slag composition.

The study of performance assessment based on problem based learning not only done in the field of technical vocational education but also in the health education, economic education, environmental education. The development of performance assessment based on problem based learning is still rare in vocational schools. Using 2013 curriculum which is required to use 21st century learning strategies, one of which is Problem Based Learning (PBL). Performance assessment is said by its advocators to be more in line with instruction than multiple-choice tests. Performance assessment is seen as having a better possibility of measuring more complex skills and communication. This article aims to design based performance assessment based on problem based learning using design based research method. The validation used in this article is expert judgement. The result of the study revealed that the cronbach alpha valu for the entire measurment scale was 0.97. The cronbach alpha value is between 0.8 to 1.00. Therefore , design performance assessment based on problem based learning has a good reability. This article aims to find out how to design performance assessment based on problem based learning for students geomatics engineering. This article provide an overview of the development of design performance assessment based on problem based learning for vocational students.

On the implementation of the maintenance roads works in Nias, there has been no standardized system, in terms of work priority order. The purpose of this study was to determine the priority of strategic road order, with Analytical Network Process (ANP), which is based on technical criteria as the basis for determining the priority policy for development or maintenance of roads in Nias. As the results, several criteria based on stake holder judgment, which can be used as the basis for maintenance priority program of road, respectively are: accessibility 30.87%; regional connectivity 25.33%; movement needs 17.90%, regional strategic development purposes 13,49%, and road condition 12:42 %.

Kuala Namu International Airport started operating on July 25, 2013 to replace Polonia International Airport followed by the operation of airport train and bus as a public transport service mode. The purpose of the study was to define the characteristic of airport train and bus users how they choose both of the transportation modes and to test the sensitivity, if one of the transportation attribute are changes. The data obtained through stated preference method was modelled by using binary logit and probit models. From these two models, the probability of using airport train and bus transportation can be known. The result of analysis showed the equations of the function of utility difference of airport train and bus: UKAB-BB = 2,606 − 0,028X1 − 0,007X2 − 0,014X3 − 0,016X4 + 0,044X5, where X1, (cost attribute), X2 (time attribute), X3 (headway attribute), X4 (access attribute) and X5 (service attribute)..

The function of the basement is to carry the weight of the upper structure into the soil and to resist lateral loads around the basement wall. One aspect of geotechnical engineering that often a problem in basement wall planning is the determination of lateral ground pressure in the basement wall due to earthquake which must be held by the basement wall. In this study, an analysis of the effects of local soil conditions due to dynamic loads is done through analysis of soil-structure interaction. The analysis is done by modeling the local soil with variations in basement depth and the adjacent basement distance to get the lateral pressure distribution due to dynamic load. The analyzed soil conditions are considered homogeneous at land sites SE (soft soil) with the dynamic load input from earthquake loads uses a 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years (500 years). The most influential parameter for soil displacement is the distance of the basement and then the depth of the basement. The most influential parameter on lateral forces is the depth of the basement followed by the distance of the basement.

Developing countries are currently experiencing rapid urbanization due to economic growth which resulted in large scale of residential constructions including condominium. Despite its contribution to the society welfare, condominium projects also create significant negative impacts on the environment through the consumption of non- renewable resources. Various methods, technologies as well as regulations have been employed to overcome the problem. However, the efforts to reduce the impacts, improve resource efficiency and promote sustainable construction were challenged by the fact that adopting sustainability will increase costs during investment phase, which is the main concern of most investors. In that respect, this paper was aimed to develop a dynamic hypothesis of sustainable construction which might be applicable for condominium project in developing countries, using a case study in Surabaya, Indonesia. System dynamic modelling was utilized to analyze the interrelationship among the controlling variables that influence system behavior of sustainable construction and project cost over a certain period. Variables were selected from previous literatures relevant to sustainable construction aspects. A questionnaire was then designed to collect experts’ perception on the influencing factors to sustainability in condominium projects. It included material and energy consumption, construction waste, lean construction method, use of green materials, indicators of sustainable construction and life cycle cost. The model obtained in this study was expected to be considered as a tool for improving sustainable construction while maintaining business objective in condominium project and formulating better policy to achieve economic, social and environmental sustainability target in the future.

Growing population, rapid urbanization, and increasing travel demand emphasize the need for reliable public transportation systems and sustainable transportation planning. A reliable bus service fosters a more significant, satisfied, and committed base of users. This research focuses on examining the association between on-time performance (OTP) and road network, demographic, socioeconomic, and land use characteristics to identify relevant external factors for proactive and reliable public transportation system planning. The analysis was conducted at a bus stop level. Bus arrival/departure data from the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) was obtained. The road network, demographic, socioeconomic, and land use characteristics were captured within 0.25-mile and 0.50-mile buffers. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to understand the association between OTP and road network, demographic, socioeconomic, and land use characteristics by day of the week and time of the day. The results show that OTP is associated with external factors such as the number of signalized or cul-de-sac/dead-end intersections, number of lanes, network density, population, income (median and total), and land use types related to residential and commercial/employment purposes within the bus stop vicinity. The findings provide vital insights for transit agencies to enhance scheduling, service and maximize benefits, effectively utilize available resources, plan, and provide equitable services to all riders. © 2023 The Author(s)

The current rapid assessment of post-earthquake damaged houses has been done manually. The determination of the damage level is also very subjective. Moreover, the available time during a rapid assessment and limited number of enumerators lead to ineffective decisions for responses and assistances. There are several application had appeared trying to answer the problems, but still they have many types of data that need to be input and even need a lot of time to process. The system design to be simple, more user-friendly and time efficient to be operated during the assessment. This study is aimed to develop a conceptual design of a system to collect data of houses damaged by earthquake using mobile application which propose to work both online and offline. The system will consists of five components: mobile device, user, data center (web server and database), internet, and data processing center (administrator and manager to verify and analyze the data). The application design to be integrated with Google Maps containing concise data entry to facilitate users (trained users and common users) and to shorten the time of data collection. Final collected data will be presented through the website and perform descriptive and spatial analysis.

Informal worker phenomenon in housing construction project

The informal workers phenomenon on housing construction projects in Indonesia is different from workers in other sectors who would always request as permanent employees. Substantively, the informal workers are disinclined to be bound as permanent employees which different from the general labor paradigm. Hence, the objective of this study is to find out how the labour selection process, the factors that affected their performance, and the suitable wage system to achieve the target completion of housing construction project. The qualitative method is used to uncover and understand the meaning behind the phenomena (numina) of informal workers action and their influence on housing construction project which called phenomenological approach. Five informal workers and two project managers were selected as informants based on predetermined criteria with in-depth interviews. The results showed that the informal worker were more satisfied with the wage based on unit price while working in the housing construction project for the flexibility in working hours. In addition, the developer was also relieved because they only control the quality and the achievement of the project completion time which supported by informal worker leader. Therefore, these findings are beneficial for both of developer and government as policy maker to succeed the housing program in Indonesia.
