This paper presents a framework to support the development of three-dimensional virtual scenarios for an operator training simulator for electrical systems. Given the need to represent a variety of scenarios of interest, this can be an effort and time consuming task. The proposed framework promotes a systematic approach when building scenarios and is supported by tools from the ontology-based domain. An editing tool is also under construction. As it will be discussed in the paper, this approach resulted in the simplification of the scenario building process which is achieved by interchanging descriptions at different levels of abstraction. The descriptions concern the situation to be represented;plant objects' representation, both visual and behavioural, the latter represented as Coloured Petri Nets (CPN) models. © 2014 SciTePress. In this paper, three structures were developed and analyzed, these configurations are based on three-leg ac/dc/ac converters operating as a universal active power filter (UAPF) also known as unified power quality conditioner (UPQC). The proposed configurations are appropriate for a voltage sag/swell compensation, reactive power compensation, reducing losses and switches, as well as for applications where the input voltage is twice the output voltage, for example, applications in systems in Brazil where the voltages vary between 220 V (rms) and 110 V (rms) from one state to another. The proposed six-switch single-phase UAPF are compared with the conventional three-leg and four-leg single-phase UAPF solutions. The pulsewidth modulation (PWM) and control techniques are developed and presented. For validation purposes, the simulation and experimental results for proposed configurations are shown. © 2018 IEEE.

This paper presents a topology based on three-leg ac-dc-ac converters for active power filter (APF) applications. The proposed configuration is appropriate for voltage sag/swell compensation, reactive power compensation, and for reducing losses and the number of switches. The proposed three-leg single-phase universal active power filter (UAPF) is compared with conventional four-leg and three-leg single-phase UAPF solutions. Two new algorithms to compute the direct and the inverse discrete wavelet transform of continuous streams of data are discussed in this paper. The algorithms are optimized to be used in uniprocessor systems, presenting as one of their main features the ability to compute over the borders of the data segments without relying on any techniques that are traditionally used for this task, like zero padding. A modified version of the Recursive Pyramid Algorithm was used to compute the direct transform, keeping just the features to minimize data storage but eliminating its dependency on extension techniques. The inverse transform is computed by an algorithm inspired in the RPA, the quadrature mirror filter bank and the overlap-save method for filter convolutions. To evaluate the performance the algorithms were implemented on a DSP coupled to a digitizer through its external memory bus, what allowed deterministic behavior. After a stage of optimization an analysis of data storage and computation load were made. These results and the potential applications are discussed at the end of the paper. ©2005 IEEE.

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that can attack the lungs and other organs. In the diagnosis of TB, the interpretation of X-ray radiological images requires special skills from medical specialists. However, the lack of experience of medical personnel and focus on X-ray examinations can be a challenge for radiologists because it has the potential to cause diagnostic errors in image interpretation. Therefore, we proposed a web-based application of real-time chest X-ray interpreter by integrating the deep learning model of Vision Transformer (ViT) to interpret chest X-ray images. The inference model was trained and tested on 652 normal and 652 tuberculosis X-ray images. The data preprocessing of Contrast Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) was implemented to increase chest X-ray image contrast as well as inference model performance. The proposed real time system can inteprete the tested chest x-ray images with an accuracy of 95% and with simulation duration time of 4.7 seconds. © 2024 IEEE.

Ferromagnetic materials have magnetic properties which determine its magnetic field conductivity characteristics. Such characteristics are extremely important for the proper selection and use of these materials in measurement processes, for example. Therefore, this paper presents an equipment for the characterization of ferromagnetic materials constructed in a laboratory. The experimental results of this equipment are acquired and compared with the experimental results obtained with an industrially manufactured apparatus called hysteresisgraph, designed to provide magnetic characterization of magnetic materials. The results of the comparison demonstrate that the equipment presented has low relative error and can be applied in academic projects which require magnetic characterization of ferromagnetic materials developed in the laboratory. © 2015 IEEE.

This paper presents the realization and the experimental tests of a new type of reluctance-based magnetic lead screw (RBMLS) that is attractive for many potential applications. The proposed topology presents structure simplification with the implementation of discretized permanent magnets (PM) and ferromagnetic semi-rings. The proposed RBMLS has PMs only in one of its movable parts, making it suitable for long-stroke applications. The dynamic experimental results for the realized prototype are going to be compared to the 3-D finite-element method (FEM) outcomes. Experimental static results have already been obtained and show good agreement. © 2019 IEEE.

In this work it is presented a two-phase open-end winding induction motor (IM) driven by an improved current source inverter (CSI). The proposed inverter has independent full quadrant operation, lower DC-link current value, high magnetics power density, 25% more efficient and high AC output voltage waveform quality compared to conventional CSI solutions. A back-to-back AC-DC-AC current source converter is used to drive the two-phase open-end winding IM, where in the AC-DC portion it is used a conventional three-phase three-leg rectifier, and the proposed two-phase inverter is used in the DC-AC portion. The two-phase IM model is also presented. Two motor drive methods for the improved CSI are used: Volts/Hertz and modified q-axis indirect flux oriented control. Simulation and experimental results are provided in order to validate the theoretical approach. © 2017 IEEE.

In Arc-Welding Machines (AWM), the power-to-weight ration is an important project parameter. This paper brings a proposition to use synchronous rectification to lower rectification stage's power losses on semiconductors, increasing total efficiency. A commercial product was studied, tested and characterized and a synchronous rectifier was then designed to replace the passive diode rectifier. A model of the machine was created and verified by comparison with measured behaviour and then used to simulate the synchronous rectifier application. Simulation results showed a promising reduction in power losses, which could be used in reducing the machine's size or increasing its power rating. In both cases, an improvement of power-to-weight ratio is verified. Ultimately, bench tests and welding tests were made to establish a comparison point between the machine with passive rectifier and the machine with synchronous rectifier. © 2019 IEEE.

This paper presents two energy conversion systems with two-phase permanent magnet (PM) machine and a rectifier with reduced number of controlled switches. The topologies are conceived with the purpose of converting wind energy into electrical energy (i.e., a wind energy conversion system (WECS)) for low power applications. Compared with some three-phase generation systems with reduced number of controlled switches, the proposed topologies permit obtaining sinusoidal controlled machine currents, reducing dc-link voltage and dq currents low harmonic distortion. © 2014 IEEE.
