This paper describes the usage of the Matlab/Simulink and Ptolemy II environments as learning tools in the implementation of simulation models, which represent the decentralized multi-loop control system proposed for a fouling detection didactic platform. The platform is treated as a two-input two-output (TITO) plant with time delay, i.e., the voltage and current as the plant inputs and the flow and preßure as the plant outputs. In both the software environments, the control system is modeled as a cyber-physical system (CPS). Constructive details of each simulation model are shown, even as the main advantages and disadvantages of each learning tool are discußed and evaluated by engineering students.

This paper shows the use of PBL (Problem-Based Learning) technique as a key to learning VoIP in courses like electricalengineering and Computer Networks in conjunction with open source and the public domain software called Asterisk which was used to create the scenario of the experiment and the problems presented to the students. In order to make the validation, the experiment was applied to students of Bachelor in electricalengineering and in Communication Technology System, undergraduate courses at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraíba - IFPB, in the Telephony subject, with promising results. The Asterisk software was presented as a useful and flexible tool for constructing scenarios and problems for the teaching of VoIP technologies and the used approach resulted as effective for improving the attainment of the defined learning objectives.
The added value of the information transmitted in a cybernetic environment has resulted in a sophisticated malicious actions scenario aimed at data exfiltration. In situations with advanced actors, like APTs, such act...

This paper describes a system able to acquire, process and eliminate noise in continuous streams of data in real-time. The signal processing algorithms were based on the discrete wavelet transform and employ a new approach to deal with border problems, allowing to process the data continuously. The system was implemented using a DSP coupled to a digitizer through its external memory bus to guarantee deterministic behavior while maintaining some degree of flexibility in its configuration. The achieved performance and potential applications are discussed at the end of the text.
This paper proposes a reconfiguration for a single-phase, double conversion uninterruptible power supply (UPS). With the addition of two static switches to the original circuit, the UPS mitigates the ripple in the cur...

This paper presents a comparison among three methods for Steady-State Visually Evoked Potentials (SSVEP) detection. These techniques are based on Power Spectral Density Analysis (PSDA) and Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA). The first method estimates the signal-to-noise ratio of the power spectrum in each stimulus frequency using PSDA, which is called Traditional-PSDA. The second analysis estimates the relation between the difference of the stimulus frequency and its neighbor frequencies, using the power spectrum in these neighbor frequencies, and seeks the neighbor frequency which present the lowest relation value. This technique is referred to Ratio-PSDA. The third and final technique called Hybrid-PSDA-CCA. The performances of the methods were evaluated using a database of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. The EEG signals were recorded from 19 volunteers, from which six people present disabilities. They were stimulated with visual stimuli flickering at 5.6, 6.4, 6.9 and 8.0 Hz. The system performance was evaluated considering the accuracy and the Information Transfer Rate (ITR) for each stimulus frequency. The results showed that the Hybrid-PSDA-CCA method achieved the best result with an average accuracy of 91.44%.

In view of the current and predictable energy shortage and environmental concerns, the exploitation of renewable energy sources offers great potential to meet increasing energy demands and to decrease depend- ence on fossil fuels. However, introducing these sources will be more attractive provided they operate in conjunction with energy storage systems (ESS). Furthermore, effective energy storage management is essential to achieve a balance between power quality, efficiency, costs and environmental constraints. This paper presents a method based on the analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy multi-rules and multi-sets. By exploiting a multiple criteria analysis, the proposed methods evaluate the operation of storage energy systems such as: pumped hydro and compressed air energy storage, H2, flywheel, super-capacitors and lithium-ion storage as well as NaS advanced batteries and VRB flow battery. The main objective of the study is to find the most appropriate ESS consistent with a power quality priority. Several parameters are used for the investigation: efficiency, load management, technical maturity, costs, environmental impact and power quality.

Two classes of problems are considered within the framework of a general approach to solve optimisation problems with fuzzy coefficients, referred to as and models in the literature. This paper is concerned with the latter and proposes an approach which replaces the initial problem by a set of associated mutually interrelated models. To reduce the decision uncertainty region, the problem is converted to a multicriteria decision problem in a fuzzy environment using two methods. The first method reduces the region sequentially through a step-by-step comparison of alternatives. The second method analyses membership functions of a subset of non-dominated alternatives, considering all criteria simultaneously. The results have general applicability and are being used in power engineering planning in Brazil.
