In this work, a method is proposed for retuning decentralized proportional-integral-derivative controllers. It consists in applying the internal model control approach in order to ft the closed-loop frequency response to that of a desired reference model. Then, an optimization problem is solved to adjust the increments on the controller parameters in order to meet the closed-loop requirements. To guarantee stability and robustness, linear margin constraints are applied to each loop, using the concept of effective loop transfer functions to take the coupling into account. The procedure is validated through simulations studies, by comparing it with other decentralized and centralized tuning methods.

Multivariable process are commonly found in industry. The coupling between the different loops makes the control design difficult. In this article, an optimization problem based on the frequency response of the process is used to designed three different multivariable PI control structures. These structures are: centralized control, decentralized control and decentralized controller plus simplified decoupler. To facilitate the centralized control implementation, it is implemented as a decentralized controller plus simplified decoupler. The decoupler is designed using an approximate first-order plus time delay process model. These structures are applied to control a continuous stirred tank reactor with a Van de Vusse chemical reaction, and performance indices are used to compare the obtained results.

Some of the key requirements and trends in power electronics in recent years include improving efficiency as well as providing a energy quality while using a converter with high power density and long lifetime. Following these tendencies, multilevel T-type converters have the potential to improve the efficiency and performance of power conversion systems, especially in the renewable energy industry. A new multilevel converter with split-inductors is proposed, that offers dead-time elimination, shoot-through protection, ringing suppression and improved efficiency. Since the split-inductors are always connected in series with the switches, the protection against shoot-through is achieved by regulating the circulating current, eliminating the need for dead-time. Simulation and experimental results were shown to prove the functionality of the proposed converter.
