Heuristic-Based Recommendation System for Dealing with Abnormal Situations in Industrial Applications

The effective management of process deviations and abnormal events depends on operational actions in providing the appropriate responses to each situation. Applications with requirements focused on the provision of resources tend to be handled by a human-machine interface (HMI) along with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). Process reliability is achieved if the operation ensures that actions will be performed according to the required response and priority levels. This paper presents a novel architecture entitled the heuristic-based recommendation system (HB-RS). The main goal is to provide resources capable of streamlining the process of actively handling abnormal situations. For recommendation purposes, the use of probabilistic networks is proposed, which are well suited to represent uncertainty elements present in engineering applications. To create the inference mechanism for these systems, a multi-entity Bayesian network (MEBN) is proposed, highlighting the importance of semantic characterization via knowledge-based, probabilistic graphical model formalism, which is closely linked to the modeling paradigm in which we can predict situations. The developed capabilities have been applied to a real case study in the operation of a metro train system, and the results obtained indicate the value of the proposed method. In this paper, we present a Digital-to-Time Converter (DTC) based on a low-cost FPGA platform, utilizing the Vernier with oscillators architecture. A DTC is a circuit that converts digital information into a very accurate time output. The proposed Vernier DTC is implemented on an Altera Cyclone III FPGA chip and features tunable resolution through the periodic relationships between two PLL-generated signals. The linearity of the system was measured for a resolution of 990 ps, showing DNL and INL values of −0.41 to +0.54 and −0.82 to +0.17, respectively. It has a range of 99 ns and an estimated power consumption of 89 mW. Furthermore, measurements demonstrate that the system achieves a maximum resolution of 12.5 ps, utilizing only 2% of the FPGA resources.

The increasing prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in recent decades has underscored the need for more accurate and objective diagnostic methods. Electroencephalography (EEG) holds promise as a tool in ASD neurobiological research due to its ability to capture neural oscillatory activity with high temporal resolution. This study aims to analyze the neurophysiological differences between individuals with ASD and neurotypical populations by examining EEG data using Hjorth parameters. The preprocessing stage involved using a Butterworth filter to enhance EEG signal quality by eliminating noise in the frequency range of 4-40 Hz. The Hjorth parameters, including Activity, Mobility, and Complexity, were used to assess the statistical characteristics of the EEG signals. The analysis was conducted on EEG data collected from 5 typical individuals and 5 ASD ASD subjects. Our findings reveal that the Hjorth Activity parameter is notably lower in the ASD group across all regions, with the most significant differences observed in the left and right frontal areas, where average activity measures 0.236 μV 2 and 0.060 μV 2 in ASD individuals, compared to 0.512 μV 2 and 0.138 μV 2 in the neurotypical group. However, the Hjorth Complexity and Mobility values remained consistent between the two groups, implying that the fundamental structure of the EEG signals is relatively preserved. These findings offer insights into the neurobiological mechanisms of ASD and suggest the potential use of Hjorth parameters in developing more targeted interventions for individuals with ASD.

In this paper, three structures were developed and analyzed, these configurations are based on three-leg ac/dc/ac converters operating as a universal active power filter (UAPF) also known as unified power quality conditioner (UPQC). The proposed configurations are appropriate for a voltage sag/swell compensation, reactive power compensation, reducing losses and switches, as well as for applications where the input voltage is twice the output voltage, for example, applications in systems in Brazil where the voltages vary between 220 V (rms) and 110 V (rms) from one state to another. The proposed six-switch single-phase UAPF are compared with the conventional three-leg and four-leg single-phase UAPF solutions. The pulsewidth modulation (PWM) and control techniques are developed and presented. For validation purposes, the simulation and experimental results for proposed configurations are shown. © 2018 IEEE.

In this paper is presented a new printed monopole antenna, bio-inspired by jasmine flower, that meets the Federal Communications Commission parameters for ultra-wideband systems. The design of the printed monopole antenna in jasmine flower has developed from a printed monopole antenna with circular geometry, with comparison results. The measured results of bio-inspired antenna in the jasmine flower showed compatibility with the parameters required by the FCC for ultra-wideband technology. It obtained bandwidth of 9.75 GHz, half-power beamwidth of 148 degrees, omnidirectional radiation pattern, gain of 5.99 dBi, power spectral density below -41.3 dBm across the bandwidth of ultra-wideband technology, small pulse distortion, and constant group delay, with variations of less than 2ns. © 2016 IEEE.

In this work it is presented a two-phase open-end winding induction motor (IM) driven by an improved current source inverter (CSI). The proposed inverter has independent full quadrant operation, lower DC-link current value, high magnetics power density, 25% more efficient and high AC output voltage waveform quality compared to conventional CSI solutions. A back-to-back AC-DC-AC current source converter is used to drive the two-phase open-end winding IM, where in the AC-DC portion it is used a conventional three-phase three-leg rectifier, and the proposed two-phase inverter is used in the DC-AC portion. The two-phase IM model is also presented. Two motor drive methods for the improved CSI are used: Volts/Hertz and modified q-axis indirect flux oriented control. Simulation and experimental results are provided in order to validate the theoretical approach. © 2017 IEEE.

This paper presents a framework to support the development of three-dimensional virtual scenarios for an operator training simulator for electrical systems. Given the need to represent a variety of scenarios of interest, this can be an effort and time consuming task. The proposed framework promotes a systematic approach when building scenarios and is supported by tools from the ontology-based domain. An editing tool is also under construction. As it will be discussed in the paper, this approach resulted in the simplification of the scenario building process which is achieved by interchanging descriptions at different levels of abstraction. The descriptions concern the situation to be represented;plant objects' representation, both visual and behavioural, the latter represented as Coloured Petri Nets (CPN) models. © 2014 SciTePress. Ferromagnetic materials have magnetic properties which determine its magnetic field conductivity characteristics. Such characteristics are extremely important for the proper selection and use of these materials in measurement processes, for example. Therefore, this paper presents an equipment for the characterization of ferromagnetic materials constructed in a laboratory. The experimental results of this equipment are acquired and compared with the experimental results obtained with an industrially manufactured apparatus called hysteresisgraph, designed to provide magnetic characterization of magnetic materials. The results of the comparison demonstrate that the equipment presented has low relative error and can be applied in academic projects which require magnetic characterization of ferromagnetic materials developed in the laboratory. © 2015 IEEE.
