In this paper, a multi-objective power dispatching problem that uses Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) as storage units is considered. The problem involves several PEVs and a microgrid community, composed of small houses, residential areas, and different Renewable Energy Resources. Three different objectives are considered: microgrid total costs; usage of PEV batteries and maximum grid peak load. In order to find sets of non-dominated solutions, a matheuristic black box solves several Mixed Integer Linear programming (MILP) subproblems. We improve a previously developed MILP model and design a new multi-objective matheuristic including new problem initialization mechanisms.

This research observed the optical band gap of thin films made from LiTaO3 undoped (0%) and doped (5% and 10%) with Nb2O5 in the 1 M-solubility deposited on n-type Si (111) substrates. The thin films are manufactured with coating process of substrates by Chemical Solution Deposition (CSD) method using a spin coater device at a rotation speed of 3000 rpm for 30 seconds and annealed in furnace (Nabertherm B180) at a temperature of 850°C for 15 hours. The optical absorption data of thin films are obtained by using an Ocean Optics USB2000 device in the wavelength of visible light. The band gap curve is determined from optical absorption data processing using Tauc Plot method. The Tauc Plot with indirect transition shows that LiTaO3 doped with Nb2O5 provides increased optical band gap value in a range less than 3.5 eV. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that LiTaO3 and Nb2O5-doped LiTaO3 thin films on n-type Si (111) substrate are semiconductor materials and has the potential to be applied on satellite.

The purpose of the present research is to observe the energy gap of thin films made from LiTaO3 in 1 M-solubility deposited on n-type Si (111) substrates with annealing temperature variation. The manufacture of thin films has been formed by Chemical Solution Deposition (CSD) method using spin coater on 3000 rpm speed for 30 seconds and performed annealing process using furnace (Nabertherm type B180) at a temperature of 750°C, 800°C and 850°C for 15 hours. The absorbance of thin films is measured by using an Ocean Optics USB2000 device and processed into the energy gap curve using Tauc Plot method. The result shows that the energy gap of thin films associated with indirect transitions are increased from 2.78 eV to 2.93 eV with the rise of annealing temperature. The research shows that the thin films on n-type Si (111) substrates made of LiTaO3 produces sensitivity to violet light spectrum and have the potential to be developed as a sensor on satellite technology.

Nucleic acid amplification and quantification via polymerase chain reaction(PCR)is one of the most sensitive and powerful tools for clinical laboratories,precision medicine,personalized medicine,agricultural science,forensic science and environmental *** multiplex PCR,characterized by low power consumption,compact size and simple operation,is ideal for timely diagnosis at the point-of-care(POC).Although several fast/ultrafast PCR methods have been proposed,the use of a simple and robust PCR thermal cycler remains challenging for POC ***,we present an ultrafast photonic PCR method using plasmonic photothermal light-to-heat conversion via photon–electron–phonon *** demonstrate an efficient photonic heat converter using a thin gold(Au)film due to its plasmon-assisted high optical absorption(approximately 65%at 450 nm,the peak wavelength of heat source light-emitting diodes(LEDs)).The plasmon-excited Au film is capable of rapidly heating the surrounding solution to over 150℃ within 3 *** this method,ultrafast thermal cycling(30 cycles;heating and cooling rate of 12.7960.93℃ s^(-1) and 6.660.29℃ s^(-1),respectively)from 55℃(temperature of annealing)to 95℃(temperature of denaturation)is accomplished within 5 *** photonic PCR thermal cycles,we demonstrate here successful nucleic acid(λ-DNA)*** simple,robust and low cost approach to ultrafast PCR using an efficient photonic-based heating procedure could be generally integrated into a variety of devices or procedures,including on-chip thermal lysis and heating for isothermal amplifications.

This paper proposes ten alternative drive topologies with reduced number of controlled switches. The topologies are composed by three-level (3L) and two-level (2L) legs combinations. All of them aim to feed a three-phase machine based on the concept of open-end-winding (OEW). Conventional OEW configurations are considered for comparison purposes. The proposed topologies are named accordingly to the number of levels associated in each leg. For example, a topology with one 3L leg and five 2L legs is named 322-222. The other configurations are named in a similar manner. The OEW based systems using proposed configurations aim to give intermediate alternative solution in terms of cost-benefit rather than using conventional configurations. Some simulation and experimental results are presented in order to validate the theoretical approaches.

This paper reports on a fully miniaturized brain-machine-spinal cord interface (BMSI) for closed-loop cortical control of intraspinal microstimulation (ISMS). The system incorporates two identical 4-channel modules, with each module comprising a neural recording front-end, embedded digital signal processing (DSP) unit, and programmable stimulating back-end. The DSP unit is capable of generating multichannel trigger signals for a wide array of ISMS triggering patterns based upon online discrimination of a programmable number of intracortical neural spikes within a pre-specified time bin via thresholding and time-amplitude windowing. The BMSI system is validated experimentally in a rat model of contusion spinal cord injury (SCI) by converting in real-time multichannel neural spikes recorded from the cerebral cortex into electrical stimuli delivered to the lumbar spinal cord below the level of the injury, resulting in distinct patterns of hindlimb muscle activation in the SCI rat.

In this paper we present a new computational primitive for convolution using coupled oscillator arrays. It is based on a Degree of Match (DOM) operation for pairs of vectors of analog voltage encoded data. The convolution operation is synthesized from these DOM circuits and computes the precise mathematical convolution of the two vectors. We present an example circuit design for the DOM operator and SPICE simulations of the circuit behavior. A MATLAB model is curve fit to an inverted copy of this output and shown to be roughly equivalent to the square of the Euclidian distance between the vectors. Using a parameterized version of this model we conducted a MATLAB study to analyze the accuracy of the DOM and convolution operations under variations in oscillator array symmetry, locking range, and additive noise. We also show a small example of convolution with an edge enhancement filter.

The assembly line balancing problem (ALBP) consists in finding the best assignment of tasks between several workstations. An evenly distribution reduces idle time and therefore results in more efficient production systems. Although several models have been proposed for ALBP, real lines present restrictions that usually violate simplifications assumptions. This paper presents a hybrid genetic algorithm to solve balancing problems with assignment restrictions. Heuristics are dynamically used in the encoding process to reduce search space and to focus the search on promising areas. The hybrid GA is able to obtain solutions close to the optimal (0.79% in average) for the most used dataset in the literature. The presented GA can incorporate equipment or zoning restrictions that might be present in real assembly lines.

Ferromagnetic materials have magnetic properties which determine its magnetic field conductivity characteristics. Such characteristics are extremely important for the proper selection and use of these materials in measurement processes, for example. Therefore, this paper presents an equipment for the characterization of ferromagnetic materials constructed in a laboratory. The experimental results of this equipment are acquired and compared with the experimental results obtained with an industrially manufactured apparatus called hysteresisgraph, designed to provide magnetic characterization of magnetic materials. The results of the comparison demonstrate that the equipment presented has low relative error and can be applied in academic projects which require magnetic characterization of ferromagnetic materials developed in the laboratory.

Thermoelectric (TE) modules are solid-state devices that convert directly thermal energy in electrical energy. However, they can undergo performance degradation due to thermal cycling. In the present study, a control-based test platform that is capable to apply specific thermal cycling pattern at periodic intervals is presented in order to evaluate performance degradation that influence the TE module lifetime. Using this test platform, some parameters and the figure of merit ZT of a commercial TE module are measured before and after thermal cycling application. An important feature of the proposed platform is that the applied thermal cycling is bipolar, that is, it is possible to apply positive or negative temperature difference and, through this, performance degradation would be observed after only 548 thermal cycles much lower than previous works. © 2015 IEEE.
