This paper presents a novel algorithm for reachability analysis of nonlinear discrete-time systems. The proposed method combines constrained zonotopes (CZs) with polyhedral relaxations of factorable representations of nonlinear functions to propagate CZs through nonlinear functions, which is normally done using conservative linearization techniques. The new propagation method provides better approximations than those resulting from linearization procedures, leading to significant improvements in the computation of reachable sets in comparison to other CZ methods from the literature. Numerical examples highlight the advantages of the proposed algorithm.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems are being increasingly used in a broad range of applications requiring extensive communications either to interconnect the UAVs with each other or to connect them with Ground Control Stations (GCS). Due to the complexity and difficulty of performing long distance experiments with these robots, simulation becomes a viable and necessary alternative. However, focusing either on the modeling of UAV operations or communication dynamics, available simulation tools are not able to capture the complex interdependencies between these two aspects, especially in applications where extensive communications are required. The main contribution of this work is the modeling and implementation of strategies for enhancing connectivity of a UAV performing long-distance navigation tasks, taking into account applications' requirements. The proposed strategies aim at assessing the impact of frequent handovers between wireless access points in terms of packet loss and available bandwidth. The first strategy prioritizes maintaining a connection until the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) observed by the robot reaches a predefined threshold. For this, it is assumed that the data to be transmitted is small enough so that the robot may change its modulation to obtain smaller bandwidths while improving connection time. The second one prioritizes bandwidth availability, thus, it always searches for a network that is able to offer data rates higher than a minimum threshold. A hybrid model is validated by considering the characteristics of each individual strategy. The capabilities of the simulation tool designed for this work are illustrated through some case-study scenarios. © 2021 IEEE.

Responsivity is a critical parameter for sensors utilized in industrial miniaturized sensors and biomedical implants,which is typically constrained by the size and the coupling with external reader,hindering their widespread applications in our daily ***,we propose a highly-responsive sensing method based on Hamiltonian hopping,achieving the responsivity enhancement by 40 folds in microscale sensor detection compared to the standard *** implement this sensing method in a nonlinear system with a pair of coupled resonators,one of which has a nonlinear ***,our method surpasses the sensing performance at an exceptional point(EP)—simultaneous coalescence of both eigenvalues and *** responsivity of our method is notably enhanced thanks to the large frequency response at a Hamiltonian hopping point(HHP)in the strong coupling,far from the *** study also reveals a linear HHP shift under different perturbations and demonstrates the detection capabilities down to sub-picofarad(<1 pF)of the microscale pressure sensors,highlighting their potential applications in biomedical implants.

An accurate predictive model of temperature and humidity plays a vital role in many industrial processes that utilize a closed space such as in agriculture and building management. With the exceptional performance of deep learning on time-series data, developing a predictive temperature and humidity model with deep learning is propitious. In this study, we demonstrated that deep learning models with multivariate time-series data produce remarkable performance for temperature and relative humidity prediction in a closed space. In detail, all deep learning models that we developed in this study achieve almost perfect performance with an R value over 0.99.

Objective: Glucose homeostasis is the only way to manage diabetic progression as all medications used do not cure diabetes. This study was aimed at verifying the feasibility of lowering glucose with non-invasive ultrasonic stimulation. Methods: The ultrasonic device was homemade and controlled via a mobile application on the smartphone. Diabetes was induced in Sprague–Dawley rats through high-fat diets followed by streptozotocin injection. The treated acupoint CV12 was at the middle of the xiphoid and umbilicus of the diabetic rats. Parameters of ultrasonic stimulation were an operating frequency of 1 MHz, pulse repetition frequency of 15 Hz, duty cycle of 10% and sonication time of 30 min for a single treatment. Path planning is a crucial part of autonomous navigation when regarding autonomous aerial vehicles, often demanding different priorities such as the length, safety or energy consumption. Dynamic programming and geometric methods have been applied to solve this problem, but in recent years, more work has been developed using artificial intelligence approaches, such as reinforcement learning. In this paper we propose an offline path planning method for static environments using Q-learning. An optimal policy is found weighting three important factors: path length, safety and energy consumption. Due to a well balanced exploring/exploiting ratio, the proposed method can lead the agent to the desired destination starting from anywhere in the map. Simulations are done in different scenarios to address the performance of the proposed method and it showcased that the algorithm is able to find feasible paths in each scenario while regarding different set of priorities.

This paper describes the low-cost manufacturing process of an evanescent wave fiber sensor platform that allows the etching of the fiber in hydrofluoric acid with the proposed 3D-printed fiber holder in an acid resistant material. The fiber holder is practical for allowing several processing procedures during its use and sensor fabrication, allowing sensor optical and electrical operation. In this work, some aspects of its characterization are presented in the optical domain showing the excitation of surface plasmons in the visible range, and also indication of its electrical operation of the thin-film as electrode.

Virtualization technologies are still growing bigger and faster. Despite the greatness of its advancement, the costume industry is still very accessible when it comes to real trials. Off-the-shelf stuff are inadequate details for the desired individual to assess its in-depth utility for each garment trying on for a second, including custom stuff are much harder to try out right away. To this end, 2D image-based 3D reconstruction inclusive of touchable-virtualized space is accessible easier to stuff details for mans' decision making in purchasing. We establish the overall end-to-end pipeline from reconstruction until visualization for one instance to be triable on its stuff for a moment. As an expectation, our proposed approach can bring objects into the experimental area and use them immediately without any obstacle.
