Amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO) has recently made significant advancement as a key material for electronic component design owing to its compatibility with complementary metal oxide semiconductor technologies. A comprehensive analysis of reliability-related issues is required to determine the true potential of a-IGZO-based devices for next-generation electronics applications. To address this objective, we electrically characterize scaled-channel a-IGZO thin film transistors (TFTs) under positive bias (temperature) stress (PB(T)S). Both PBS and PBTS are characterized by positive and negative V_th shift, respectively, during the various gate stresses. In particular, the negative V_th shift is explained by the generation of donor-like traps stimulated by ionization of oxygen vacancy/hydrogen at elevated temperature. The TFTs exhibit relatively decent stability during the PBS operation. The analysis of devices with variant channel dimensions implies that long-channel devices exhibit relatively higher stability and performance compared to the short-channel ones. We also observe that the V_th can be controllably adjusted by employing the top gate (TG) with bottom gate sweep. Moreover, the stress-induced partial recovery mechanism is experimentally observed owing to detrapping of charges. Generally, the reported results infer a perceptive understanding of scaled-channel a-IGZO-TFTs which helps with shaping performance-enhancement strategies. © 2024 The Author(s). Current methods for quantifying osteoarthritis severity have limited resolution and accessibility. Patient-recorded outcome measures such as the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) capture symptom severity, but are subjectively reported and have little correlation with quantifiable metrics of disease such as Kellgren-Lawrence x-ray grade or MRI findings. Knee acoustic emissions (KAEs) offer a convenient, noninvasive option for quantifying joint health. Here, we use machine learning and wearable design to create an interpretable two-stage algorithm for combining KAEs and KOOS scores into an objective, more accessible method of quantifying disease severity. Our algorithm successfully discriminated between early and late-stage osteoarthritis (balanced accuracy = 85%, ROC-AUC = 0.88). The addition of KAEs improved classification of osteoarthritis severity over the use of KAEs (balanced accuracy = 53%, ROC-AUC = 0.786) or KOOS scores alone (balanced accuracy = 63%, ROC-AUC = 0.593). The findings suggest that KAEs combined with patient-recorded metrics can be used to make a more objective and accessible metric for digitally monitoring knee joint health.

Fiber optic-based sensors have experimented with significant technological advances in the last two decades. Distributed acoustic sensors represent their most recent iteration. This sensing technology become all the cable length into a sensor, a favorable condition for seismic studies. Data preprocessing is a crucial step in this study, in which the seismic signals captured by optical interrogators must be converted to the apparent velocity of particles that sensitized the fiber. Amongst the main conversion algorithms, the ones based on Fourier Transforms are more adopted at large-scale surveys. This paper presents an algorithm implementation for this conversion, based on the 2D Fourier Transform, in a small-scale laboratory investigation. The results are favorable and show that it is a possible use. It brings more definition to individualizing first break time arrivals, equalizing signal amplitude, and aligning oscillation peaks, essential parameters for applying reflections and refraction methods in seismic studies.

The spread of Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19) in Indonesia is still relatively high and has not shown a significant decrease. One of the main reasons is due to the lack of supervision on the implementation of health protocols such as wearing masks in daily activities. Recently, state-of-The-Art algorithms were introduced to automate face mask detection. To be more specific, the researchers developed various kinds of architectures for the detection of masks based on computer vision methods. This paper aims to evaluate well-known architectures, namely the ResNet50, VGG11, InceptionV3, EfficientNetB4, and YOLO (You Only Look Once) to recommend the best approach in this specific field. By using the MaskedFace-Net dataset, the experimental results showed that the EfficientNetB4 architecture has better accuracy at 95.77% compared to the YOLOv4 architecture of 93.40%, InceptionV3 of 87.30%, YOLOv3 of 86.35%, ResNet50 of 84.41%, VGG11 of 84.38%, and YOLOv2 of 78.75%, respectively. It should be noted that particularly for YOLO, the model was trained using a collection of MaskedFace-Net images that had been pre-processed and labelled for the task. The model was initially able to train faster with pre-Trained weights from the COCO dataset thanks to transfer learning, resulting in a robust set of features expected for face mask detection and classification. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. Bilevel optimization for machine learning: Algorithm design and convergence analysis

Bilevel optimization has become a powerful framework in a variety of machine learning applications including signal processing, meta-learning, hyperparameter optimization, reinforcement learning and network architecture search. There are generally two classes of bilevel optimization formulations for modern machine learning: 1) problem-based bilevel optimization, whose inner-level problem is formulated as finding a minimizer of a given loss function;and 2) algorithm-based bilevel optimization, whose inner-level solution is an output of a fixed algorithm. For the first problem class, two popular types of gradient-based algorithms have been proposed to estimate the gradient of the outer-level objective (hypergradient) via approximate implicit differentiation (AID) and iterative differentiation (ITD). Algorithms for the second problem class include the popular model-agnostic meta-learning (MAML) and almost no inner loop (ANIL). Although bilevel optimization algorithms have been widely used, their convergence rate and fundamental limitations have not been well explored. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The objective of this project is to explore the applicability of a bioinspired approach, derived from the behavior of the Physarum polycephalum fungus, in optimizing trajectory navigation for mobile robot structures. The precise organism Physarum, which has the capability to quick locate efficient paths among factors in complicated environments, serves as a herbal version for constructing inspired trajectory algorithms. In this project, the development of a trajectory set of rules is proposed, that’s as compared to conventional trajectory introduction techniques, aiming to introduce a novel approach to cellular robot navigation. This work is presented thru a aggregate of experimental observations and computational simulations that show the effectiveness of this bioinspired approach in trajectory choice. As a end result, an set of rules is developed that mimics the behavior of the Physarum and, similarly to conventional navigation algorithms, paves the manner for research and improvement.

DRL has emerged as a promising approach for mobile robot navigation in unknown environments without a prior map. However, the performance of DRL methods for this task varies greatly, depending on the choice of algorithm, state representation, and training procedure. In this paper we explore various cutting-edge DRL algorithms, such as policy-, value-, and actor-critic-based approaches. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of the ranging sensor approach, which achieves robust navigation policies capable of generalizing to unseen virtual environments with a high success rate. We combine Behavior Cloning with Imitation Learning to expedite the training process, leveraging expert demonstrations and reinforcement learning. Our methodology enables faster training while enhancing the learning efficiency and performance of the robot, obtaining better results in terms of crash and success rate, and being able to reach a cumulative reward of approximately 12000.

Path planning is a crucial component of autonomous navigation and frequently demands different priorities such as path length, safety, or energy consumption, with the latter being particularly important in the context of unmanned autonomous vehicles. In many applications, the agent may have to react to environment shifting. Algorithms such as geometric and dynamic programming as well as techniques such as artificial potential fields have been employed to tackle this local planning problem. In recent years, machine learning has gained more evidence in many research fields due to its flexibility and generalization capabilities. In this study, we propose a Q-learning-based approach to local planning, which weighs three crucial factors- path length, safety, and energy consumption- that can be freely adjusted by the user to suit its application’s needs. The performance of the proposed method was tested in simulated static and dynamic scenarios as well as benchmarked with a baseline approach. The results show that it can perform well in both kinds of environments without struggling with the commom pitfalls of other local planning algorithms.

This study is related to a system that enables elderly people to communicate interactively with young people who use existing message exchange services by simply speaking to an avatar on a tablet PC, without having to perform complicated operations of the tablet PC. On the other hand, the young people side can bring in elderly people who could not previously participate in existing message exchange services groups. The effectiveness of the system was verified through demonstration experiments with two households consisting of elderly people in their 80s.

Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) Services have significant potential in digital content creation. The distinctive abilities of AIGC, such as content generation based on minimal input, hold huge potential, especially when integrating with semantic communication (SemCom). In this paper, a novel comprehensive conceptual model for the integration of AIGC and SemCom is developed. Particularly, a content generation level is introduced on top of the semantic level that provides a clear outline of how AIGC and SemCom interact with each other to produce meaningful and effective content. Moreover, a novel framework that employs AIGC technology is proposed as an encoder and decoder for semantic information, considering the joint optimization of semantic extraction and evaluation metrics tailored to AIGC services. The framework can adapt to different types of content generated, the required quality and the semantic information utilized. By employing a Deep Q Network (DQN), a case study is presented that provides useful insights into the feasibility of the optimization problem and its convergence characteristics. © 2023, CC BY.
