A compact electromagnetic multi-resonator is presented in this paper using a new technique for chipless RFID tag data encoding. Employing Archimedean spirals, the information is applied into the spectral signature shifting resonant frequencies in several positions. The multi-resonator tag proposed operates in microwave band (between 3.0-7.0GHz) and has a coding data capacity of up to 100 decimal numbers for two resonant frequencies. The simulated and measured results show a good concordance and a great perspective to use in low-cost RFID chipless tag applications. © 2015 IEEE.

The increasing population at Teluk Pemedas and Sanipah coastal areas of Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province, has led to coastal degradation. The problem was mainly caused by conversion of mangrove into aquaculture, agriculture, plantation industrial, and residential areas. This research was a study case, used descriptive analysis to describe the local fishermen activity using belat traditional device to catch fish. The results revealed that there were many fishermen still did not know the benefits of mangrove for economy growth, ecological, ecotourism etc. This condition affects to the decline of the mangrove function. Fisherman who used belat often move from one location to another location in order to find places that have many catches. The belat which are placed in good environment mangrove areas produces lots of catches that greatly benefit the fisherman, therefore mangrove ecosystem must be well preserved for the sustainability of fishermen's efforts to earn a living. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

In this paper we address the task of hierarchical bird species identification from audio recordings. We evaluate three types of approaches to deal with hierarchical classification problems: the flat classification approach, the local-model per parent node classifier approach and the global-model hierarchical-classification approach. For the flat and local-model classification approach we employ the classic Naive Bayes algorithm. For the global-model approach we use the Global Model Naive Bayes (GMNB) algorithm. As in the classical Naive Bayes, the algorithm computes prior probabilities and likelihoods, but these computations take into account the hierarchical classification scenario: it assumes that any example which belongs to a given class will also belong to all its ancestor classes. In the current application, the employed class hierarchy is the standard scientific taxonomy of birds used in Biology. In order to deal with the bird songs we obtain features by computing several acoustic quantities from intervals of the audio signal. We conduct three experiments in order to compare the three different approaches to the hierarchical bird species identification problem. Our experimental results show that the use of the GMNB hierarchical classification algorithm outperforms both the flat and local-model approaches (Using the Hierarchical F-measure metric);hence the use of a global-model approach (such as the GMNB) can be a feasible way to improve the classification performance for problems with a large number of classes.

Magnetic coupled wireless power transfer systems have been incorporated in various devices including smartphones, and are becoming important to charge multiple devices at the same time. In this paper, we propose a new circular transmitter that can efficiently charge multiple receivers. The transmitter coil consists of a parabolic spiral that is sparse on the inside and tight on the outside from the beginning. The analysis result shows that when the five receivers are charged, they can be charged almost evenly and the total efficiency is 79.2%.

Past air sampling detection (ASD) systems had no definitive positioning;most allocation of sampling points was based on experience. This research discovered that sampling points inside the electrical rooms were significantly affected by the ambient airflow, causing the detection system to have difficulties in fire detection. Fire dynamics simulator (FDS) was used to simulate very early smoke detection apparatus (VESDA) effectiveness within the protection area of an electrical room. Results showed that ASD sampling points in electrical rooms should be placed above high-voltage transformers and capacitors, while rearranging the high risk machines together to avoid long detection pipelines, which increases the transportation time of the gas, thus hindering early detection by the ASD system. Field tests using a smoke detector tester yielded transportation times of 33 s, which was in very good agreement with the simulated results of 35 s by ASPIRE, showing the accuracy of using software to simulate transportation times. Therefore, this research combined FDS with the transportation times of different pipeline designs to conduct performance assessment of VESDA. After appropriate rearrangement of machines, VESDA detection times dropped from 106.0-171.0 s during the original setup to 21.0-31.7 s, assuring the facility to have more time for emergency response. However, it was noticed that FDS software did not have the estimation tool for VESDA transportation times;therefore software such as ASPIRE should be used to calculate the gas transportation times inside the detection pipelines, and then compiled with FDS results to avoid underestimation of actuation times. © 2017 The Authors. This paper proposes a new method for obtaining self and mutual inductances in wireless power transfer (WPT) systems using a deep neural network (DNN). In this paper, five structural parameters of a WPT system were experimentally used as inputs. The experimental results demonstrate that inductances obtained by the proposed method are within 10% in the maximum errors and about 1% in the mean absolute errors. The proposed method is about 682k times faster than the field solver in the CPU time required to obtain the inductances of one structure.

The Engineering Games at UnicenP began in 1999 and, in 2004, the 6 th edition had the participation of approximately 600 students, freshmen and sophomore, from the Civil, Computer, Electric and Mechanical Engineering programs at Centro Universitário Positivo. In the last two editions of the games there has been a change in the format, with the students now being made responsible for the acquisition of the materials to be employed in the games. This is now possible due to advanced announcement of team composition, which gives the students enough time to contact fellow team members and get organized prior to Engineering Games day. The new format has helped improve team organization, and also made the games easier to set up, since more time can be devoted by the faculty to task creation and evaluation as opposed to the former assemblage of kits of materials to be handed to the teams. © 2005 IEEE.

Antibiotic resistant bacteria and genes (ARB and ARG) in water and sewage treatment units: A review

Microorganisms have historically coexisted with humans, animals, and the environment in a natural way. Like any other living being, microorganisms are subjected to environmental pressures that can eventually extinguish or strengthen their existence. In recent years, the emergence of antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARG) has raised an alert about their influence on human and animal health. In addition to ARBs found in nosocomial environments, recent studies point to the environment as an auxiliary hotspot for the spread of antimicrobial resistance. In this sense, this review covers research that investigated ARB and ARG in E. coli and Salmonella, occurrence and potential environmental reservoirs for the spread of antimicrobial resistance, as well as a discussion on how bacterial resistance affects public health, the detection and treatment methods currently employed to reduce or remove this pollutant from water treatment plants (WTP) and sewage treatment plants (WWTP). The results indicated that the great increase in bacterial resistance may be linked, among other reasons, to repetitive contact with residual concentrations of antibiotics present in the environment, causing the bacteria to suffer from selective pressure and if resistant to one or more antibiotics. Thus, public health is compromised, since commonly used antibiotics are often ineffective in treating disease-resistant pathogenic bacteria. From this perspective, studies have shown the importance of consistent detection methods, which allow the tracking and analysis of sources of antimicrobial resistance on a global scale, in addition to the need to improve advanced treatment to reduce the ARG and ARB of WTPs and WWTPs.
