This paper addresses the problem of the geometric modeling of prosthesis to correct defects in skull bone by computational approach viewpoint. The missing area in a defective skull can be virtually filled by a criterion based on the curvature of the skull shape. The basic argument is that in a computed tomography, the 2D skull border in slice image is similar to a rounded form. This research is proposing a method to find adjusted ellipses on its curvature by Ellipse Adjustment Algorithm(EAA) technique. If the ellipse is correctly adjusted in each computed tomography slice, the resulting arcs that fill the missing area can be built in 3D in order to complete an unknown region in the bone. The problem is that there are many possible solutions and the selection of the best ellipse that fits the contour shape is performed by a Genetic Algorithm(GA). The piece of bone that was missed in skull can be built as a synthetic image to fill a hole at defect position in the skull. With the ellipse parameters it is possible to generate profiles with its set of points in order to build the 3D model using a CAD system. The case study shows the use of the method applied to non-symmetric defects and presents the obtained results.

In this paper we report on the evolution of Apache Ant, a build automation tool developed in Java. We observed a typical case of architectural mismatch in this system: its original simple design was lost due to maintenance and addition of new features. We have applied SBSE techniques to determine whether the search would be able to recover at least parts of the original design, in a metrics-based optimization. We observed that current SBSE techniques produce complex designs, but they also allow us to study the limitations of present design metrics. In the end, we propose a new research perspective joining software clustering and refactoring selection to improve software evolution. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

The theme of Sustainable Development has gained more and repercussion in the society spheres contributing to a greater awareness of the need for natural resources conservation, as well as the challenge of keeping promoting the socio-economic development of the regions. One of the key issues for this sustainable development is in the Electric Power Generation with the increasing use of renewable energy, and less harm to the environment. In this scenario, the state of Paraná historically has been one of the largest producers of electricity in the country, almost entirely through hydroelectric plants due to the large watershed in the state. However, the use of this source is in constant decline due to the hydric potential exhaustion, and also due to the pressure from society related to the environmental, social and economic impacts occasioned by its installation. To overcome these limitations, other sources have been studied and applied such as the biomass, the wind and photovoltaic in isolated systems. Most recently, as a function of the Call No. 13/2011 and the Resolution 482/2012 from ANEEL (Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency), there was also the possibility of generating electricity through Grid-connected Photovoltaic Power systems. These systems have been widely employed in the urban environment as electricity generators near the distributed point of consumption, intensely applied in many countries, especially in Europe, usually requiring no additional area, since they can be installed on the roof of the building or integrated in it. This paper aims to present the Photovoltaic Map of the Paraná State, Brazil, which represents the potential for generating electricity through solar photovoltaic power, and also to compare the preliminary results of the values of electricity generation measured in the Gridconnected Photovoltaic Power System located at the Technological Federal University of Paraná (UTFPR) in the city of Curitiba, capital of Paraná-Brazil.

The literature identifies a trend of new vehicles development at global level resulting in a global product development (GPD). In this context, this paper aims at analyzing the decentralization of GPD in an assembler of commercial vehicles. Factors that contribute to the decentralization of GPD are considered in this investigation as well as their causes. Case-based research is adopted as the research methodological approach, conducted in a Brazilian assembler and its headquarters in Germany. The results indicate that the organization reacts similarly to other economics industrial sectors (e.g. telecommunications) when facing the decision of decentralizing GPD. Unlike other studies, it was also found that modular design has influence on the GPD decentralization process. The interest of the local market and historical aspects of the evolution of the subsidiary were found to be relevant. From these results a proposed structure for GPD and adoption of modular design is suggested. © 2012 IEEE.

Collaboration is an important issue when developing software, because it involves working together towards a common goal. This work presents OPERAM, a collaborative semantic workspace that allows comparing the modeling performed at earlier stages of software development with JAVA code. OPERAM provides useful information for professionals involved in the task of developing code and even managing the project. OPERAM aims to allow monitoring of the project, helping users to be aware of the context they are working, allowing carry out verification of software development, confronting the modeling performed with source-code produced during the programming phase. We present its main features and architecture. In this paper the main features and architecture of OPERAM are presented, as well as a validation was conducted to prove the effectiveness of OPERAM. The results show the value of the workspace as a tool to support collaboration and software verification.

Among the family of conducting polymers, polyaniline (PANI) is the most studied due to an easy and low-cost synthesis, good environmental stability, and simple doping/dedoping process based on acid/base reactions.1,2 PANI polymer can be used for different applications including in solar cells, artificial muscles, gas sensors, capacitors, acid-base indicators, etc.3 The nature of PANI conductivity is explained by its ability to form polarons and cation radicals.3,4 Moreover PANI shows significant variations in conductivity when exposed to various volatile organic compounds (VOC).4 This property arises from to the doping-dedoping of conducting PANI layer, which makes it suitable for detection of wide variety of gas molecules. Changes in the chemical states can alter the sensitivity and selectivity of PANI layer. Chemical modifications by doping of PANI with various acid dopants, co-polymerisation with various thermoplastics, co-polymerisation with aniline derivatives or enzymatic polymerisation of aniline has been used to improve the processability and solubility of PANI as reviewed by Jaymand ***.5. Another techique is low pressure plasma treatment which has been reported to be an efficient technique for the carbon functionalization as well as changing the chemical states of the PANI surface.6,7 The variations of the chemical changes induced by low pressure oxygen plasma treatment efficiently enhanced the selectivity and sensitivity towards various gases.8 PANI exposed to various plasmas has demonstrated also increased resistivity. Urea is widely used in the manufacture of explosives and nitrogen fertilisers in industries. Eventhough expoure of urea vapor is harmless at lower concentrations, prolonged exposure of urea can cause irritations to eyes, skin or respiratory systems. This paper proposes a multiobjective heuristic search approach to support a project portfolio selection technique on scenarios with a large number of candidate projects. The original formulation for the technique requires analyzing all combinations of candidate projects, which is unfeasible when more than a few alternatives are available. We have used a multiobjective genetic algorithm to partially explore the search space of project combinations and select the most effective ones. We present an experimental study based on four project selection problems that compares the results found by the genetic algorithm to those yielded by a non-systematic search procedure. Results show evidence that the project selection technique can be used in large-scale scenarios and that GA presents better results than simpler search strategy. This study proposes to identify and select indicators contributing to the evaluation of the levels of sustainability in the family agriculture production of castor beans in the state of Paraíba. To achieve these objectives, we used the Pressure-State-Impact-Response (PSIR) model, which describes the human activities, processes and standards that impact on sustainable development. The methodology was based on Descriptive and Exploratory research applied in a case study of an agricultural cooperative. The primary data were collected through semi-structured interviews with representatives of public organs and agriculturists. Based on the reality and the problems that affecting the production system, a total 47 indicators were set, classified and tailored to the specifics of the activity, considering the different dimensions of sustainability. The results showed that the indicators selected enabled the systemic analysis of agricultural activity, facilitating the identification of the positive and negative aspects that influence the productive sector, and also propose possible solutions and improvements to stimulating the local oleaginous production.
