A palladium-based (Pd-based) core@shell catalyst can be modified to achieve the desired oxygen adsorption properties by selecting an appropriate core composition, surface alloying, and compressive strain. Herein, we present the effects of compressive strain, core composition, and surface alloying in Pd3Ni@PdIr(111), Pd3CuNi@PdIr(111), and Pd3Cu@PdIr(111) alloy-core@alloy-shell catalysts on dioxygen adsorption. Using experimental lattice parameters for the unstrained catalysts,-1% to-5%, strain was systematically introduced. The calculated dioxygen-adsorption energies for the surface Pd and surface Ir atoms reveal that the Pd3CuNi@PdIr catalyst has the lowest dioxygen-adsorption energy at a given compressive strain. Bader charge calculations show that the Pd3CuNi@PdIr catalyst surface is the most charge depleted. The d-band model displays an intermediate d-band center downshift for the surface Pd atoms, and the highest downshift for the surface Ir atoms. Due to synergism between charge depletion, the d-band center shift, and the surface alloy effect, the Pd3CuNi@PdIr catalyst has the lowest dioxygen-adsorption energy. The relationship between the experimentally obtained catalyst-surface mass activity and the theoretically calculated d-band center of the surface Pd and the surface Ir is volcano shaped, with the Pd3CuNi@PdIr catalyst at the apex of the volcano. The catalytic activities of these catalysts were observed to follow the order: Pd3CuNi@PdIr >Pd3Cu@PdIr >Pd3Ni@PdIr. This work sheds light on the importance of ligand and strain effects, as well as surface alloying for the fine-tuning of alloy-core@alloy-shell-catalysts during the rational design of catalysts from first principles. The two-dimensional (2D) material Cr2Ge2Te6 is a member of the class of insulating van der Waals magnets. Here, using high resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy in a detailed temperature dependence study, we identify a clear response of the electronic structure to a dimensional crossover in the form of two distinct temperature scales marking onsets of modifications in the electronic structure. Specifically, we observe Te p-orbital-dominated bands to undergo changes at the Curie transition temperature TC while the Cr d-orbital-dominated bands begin evolving at a higher temperature scale. Combined with neutron scattering, density functional theory calculations, and Monte Carlo simulations, we find that the electronic system can be consistently understood to respond sequentially to the distinct temperatures at which in-plane and out-of-plane spin correlations exceed a characteristic length scale. Our findings reveal the sensitivity of the orbital-selective electronic structure for probing the dynamical evolution of local moment correlations in vdW insulating magnets. © 2023, CC BY.

PbTe crystals have a soft transverse optical phonon mode in the terahertz frequency range, which is known to efficiently decay into heat-carrying acoustic phonons, resulting in anomalously low thermal conductivity. Here, we studied this phonon via polarization-dependent terahertz spectroscopy. We observed softening of this mode with decreasing temperature, indicative of incipient ferroelectricity, which we explain through a model including strong anharmonicity with a quartic displacement term. In magnetic fields up to 25 T, the phonon mode splits into two modes with opposite handedness, exhibiting circular dichroism. Their frequencies display Zeeman splitting together with an overall diamagnetic shift with increasing magnetic field. Using a group-theoretical approach, we demonstrate that these observations are the result of magnetic field-induced morphic changes in the crystal symmetries through the Lorentz force exerted on the lattice ions. Thus, our study reveals a novel process of controlling phonon properties in a soft ionic lattice by a strong magnetic field. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Real-time optimization using gradient adaptive selection and classification from infrared sensors measurement for esterification oleic acid with glycerol

Purpose-The production of glycerol derivatives by the esterification process is subject to many constraints related to the yield of the production target and the lack of process *** accurate monitoring and controlling of the process can improve production yield and *** purpose of this paper is to propose a real-time optimization(RTO)using gradient adaptive selection and classification from infrared sensor measurement to cover various disturbances and uncertainties in the ***/methodology/approach-The integration of the esterification process optimization using self-optimization(SO)was developed with classification process was combined with necessary condition optimum(NCO)as gradient adaptive selection,supported with laboratory scaled medium wavelength infrared(mid-IR)sensors,and measured the proposed optimization system indicator in the batch *** Process Modeling and Notation(BPMN 2.0)was built to describe the tasks of SO workflow in collaboration with NCO as an abstraction for the conceptual ***,Stateflow modeling was deployed to simulate the three states of gradient-based adaptive control combined with support vector machine(SVM)classification and Arduino microcontroller for ***-This new method shows that the real-time optimization responsiveness of control increased product yield up to 13 percent,lower error measurement with percentage error 1.11 percent,reduced the process duration up to 22 minutes,with an effective range of stirrer rotation set between 300 and 400 rpm and final temperature between 200 and 210℃ which was more efficient,as it consumed less *** limitations/implications-In this research the authors just have an experiment for the esterification process using glycerol,but as a development concept of RTO,it would be possible to apply for another chemical reaction or *** implications-This research introduces new development of an RTO approach to optimal con

Citronella oil is one of the essential oils derived from the leaves and stem of lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus). At present, most of the lemongrass oil industry in Indonesia is still in the form of upstream industries which only provide crude purified oils with low purity for export with a fairly low sales value. technology in improving the purity of citronella oil needs innovation in following the development of the industrial revolution 4.0. This article presents an overview of the research opportunities in the development of distillation for fractionating citronella oil referring to automation of optimization processes in the vacuum fractional distillation accompanied by inspection of the quality of essential oil isolation run in the line process based on smart sensors integrated in a computer program. The combination technique of quality control of essential oils in line process system combined with the optimization technique of the vacuum fractional distillation process has not been studied by advanced researchers. Therefore, this study has a state of the art process engineering and smart sensor-based quality control systems that can be developed for strengthening the Indonesian citronella oil industry.

Luwak coffee is one of the Indonesia traditional coffee that known globally because of its unique aroma and flavor. Luwak coffee was produced by a fermentation process in luwak digestion by involving microbe that can be found in luwak digestion. Luwak coffee fermentation process using luwak animal has many weakness such as inefficient production processes, and final product quality that always makes consumers hesitate in terms of its hygiene and halal. Therefore some research to produce coffee with the quality of luwak coffee without using luwak began to be developed. Several methods of fermentation to produce coffee with quality luwak coffee are discussed in this paper, such as fermentation by in vitro technique

This work investigates strategic management processes of projects involved in the Brazilian aerospace field, addressing the Regional Center of the Amazon of the National Institute of Space Research. It proposes an approach in the monitoring of the evolution of projects by evaluation of professional performance, showing results in graphs and the need to survey and follow the most evident and significant technological advances in the mapping environment of land use and land cover in the Amazon. It addresses the main difficulties faced in the process of managing projects and people to achieve goals, needing to know the Geographic Information System tools used by employees, such as Terramazon, and their respective times consumed in this type of software. The work intends to serve as a basis for investigating, developing and implementing new management options that will reduce the efforts required by managers and administrators during the process of monitoring the evolution of projects. The methodology of Project Management Institute (PMI) and its Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) was used in this research work, ensuring an international quality. © 2018 Portland International Conference on Management of Engineering and technology, Inc.
