The Human-Centered Internet of Things(HC-IoT)is fast becoming a hotbed of security and privacy *** users can establish a common session key through a trusted server over an open communication channel using a three-party authenticated key *** of the early authenticated key agreement systems relied on pairing,hashing,or modular exponentiation processes that are computationally intensive and *** order to address this problem,this paper offers a new three-party authenticated key agreement technique based on fractional chaotic *** new scheme uses fractional chaotic maps and supports the dynamic sensing of HC-IoT devices in the network architecture without a password *** projected security scheme utilized a hash function,which works well for the resource-limited HC-IoT *** results show that our new technique is resistant to password guessing attacks since it does not use a ***,our approach provides users with comprehensive privacy protection,ensuring that a user forgery attack causes no ***,our new technique offers better security features than the techniques currently available in the literature.

Contamination of aquatic and terrestrial organisms by Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), emerging contaminants, is widespread, as these compounds are present in water, soil, air, and food, owing to their environmental persistence. PFAS exposure induces biochemical process alterations associated with the disruption of the antioxidant defense system in several species. This review aims to discuss how PFAS-induced antioxidant system alterations lead to changes in biochemical processes in different organisms exposed to these pollutants. This disruption, then leads to an imbalance in antioxidant defense systems, contributing to the formation of reactive oxidative species (ROS), which, in turn, can be exacerbate oxidative stress, induce cellular damage, enhance lipid peroxidation, destabilize lysosomal membranes, and cause genotoxic effects, ultimately compromising DNA integrity. In acute tests, PFAS have led to mortality, growth inhibition, diminished behavioral and locomotor abilities, and reproductive impairment. PFAS-induced effects differ with varying species or types of substances, and further bioaccumulation through food chains exacerbates environmental contamination, carrying considerable risks. These findings demonstrate the complex and enduring impact of PFAS on environmental health, emphasizing the importance of this review in corroborating studies on sub-lethal toxicity in exposed organisms and how these effects reflect on the environment. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Evaluating the physical quality of soil (SPQ) at the watershed scale is crucial for improved management and conservation of soil and water within the watershed. This study aims to assess the spatial uncertainties of soil physical vulnerability (SPV), based on the characterization of the distribution and spatial variability of physical-hydric attributes (PHA), using geostatistical simulation within the established sample grid in the Santa Rita watershed (SRW), located in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil. Variability and spatial distribution were assessed using the Matheron estimator and the sequential Gaussian simulation (SGS) method, respectively. Uncertainties of macroporosity (Ma), bulk density (Bd), and saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) were evaluated based on cumulative frequency distribution curves and coefficient of variation mapping from simulations. The SPV was assessed by integrating different critical zone maps based on Ma, Bd, and Ks. Among the studied attributes, Ks exhibited the highest heterogeneity. SGS effectively characterized the variability and spatial distribution of Ma, Bd, and Ks, identifying critical areas and developing maps highlighting zones with compromised soil quality. Ks required more simulated random fields, while Ma presented fewer uncertainties. The spatial uncertainties for SPV were minimal, despite using different combinations of PHA in the assessment. Soils under native forest showed a lower tendency for physical degradation, whereas soils under crops and native field in the southern portion of the SRW exhibited a higher tendency for physical degradation. Mapping SPV is crucial for assessing SPQ, identifying areas prone to fragility, and promoting sustainable soil and water management. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Saturated hydraulic conductivity (KSat) is a key soil attribute that influences hydrological processes at multiple scales. It is well known that KSat is difficult to measure in the field. Field KSat measurement requires time and expensive equipment, skilled labor, and due to the variability of KSat, many samples are required. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are powerful non-linear mathematical models that can estimate KSat from different soil and environmental input variables as well as using dimensionless variables generated using database resizing techniques via principal component analysis (PCA). Our main goal is to construct artificial neural network models for predicting KSat using soil and different land uses as input variables at a watershed scale. The study area is the Eller Creek watershed of about 0.7 km2 in southern Brazil, in which we established an experimental grid of 178 sampling points. Data of soil bulk density, total porosity, microporosity, macroporosity, soil organic carbon content, sand, silt and clay, and KSat were determined at each point in the 0-20 cm layer. A land-use map was derived from satellite images and used to identify the land use around each soil sampling point. PCA was applied to the original dataset and two selected PCs were included as input variables for ANN modeling. Our results suggest that PC inclusion as input parameters, collectively or individually, combined with the original data, increased the performance of the analyzed ANN models, when compared to similar models using only the original data and without PCs. The use of ANN models showed that the variation of KSat in the ECW watershed is not only associated with soil hydrological and environmental covariates, but also to PCs which are orthogonal linear recombinations that encapsulate the main sources of variation of the original datasets. © 2024, The Authors. Saturated soil hydraulic conductivity (KSat) is a key soil attribute that affects hydrological processes in the soil surface layer. It is well known that KSat is difficult to be obtained in the field, requires time and expensive equipment, skilled labor and, due to its variability, requires many samples and can hardly be extrapolated. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are powerful no-linear mathematical models to estimate KSat from different soil hydro-physical and environmental input variables as well as by using dimensionless variables generated by database resizing techniques from principal component analyses (PCA). The present study aimed to construct artificial neural network models for predicting KSat using soil attributes and different land uses as input variables at a watershed scale. The study was carried out in the Ellert Creek watershed of about 0.7 km2, Brazil, in which an experimental grid consisted of 178 sampling points was established. Soil physical quality (SPQ) is related to its conservation and degradation status. Among the indicators of SPQ, the S-index stands out, which is sensitive to different land uses and management practices adopted and capable of identifying structural changes with reference value ranges related to SPQ. These ranges are not suitable for various edaphoclimatic conditions, including the Santa Rita watershed (SRW), municipality of Pelotas, in southern Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The S-index is an excellent indicator and allows the mapping of physical vulnerability when considering the spatial uncertainties of the attribute. The general objective of this study is to evaluate whether the proposed S-index reference values by Dexter (2004) are suitable for soil boundary conditions, to define new critical S-index limits based on macroporosity, as well as to characterize the spatial distribution of the S-index and map critical zones of SPQ in the SRW. It was possible to identify a limiting S-index value of 0.039 for the edaphoclimatic conditions of the SRW. Through geostatistical techniques, it was possible to map physical vulnerability from the critical soil limit, thus identifying areas that require remediation. The limiting value proposed by Dexter was able to represent the spatial pattern of physical vulnerability in the SRW. The S-index proved to be an excellent tool for supporting decisions regarding the use, management, and conservation of soil physical quality and the environment. © 2023, The Authors. The study assessed the physicochemical and biological properties of selected groundwater sources in the Southeastern part of the Western Region, to assess the impact on water quality and health risk. The Piper Trilinear plot was used to categorize the water samples into water types based on the dominant anion and cation concentrations. Statistical analysis (One way ANOVA and two sample t-test) was used to determine the sources of variation in the data at 95% confidence interval. The water Quality Index (WQI) and Hazard Quotient (HQ) were used to estimate the water quality and health risk respectively. TDS and turbidity were above the acceptable WHO guidelines in 16.7% of the samples with a mildly acidic pH in 83.3% of the water samples. Also, 91.7% of the water samples were contaminated with total coliform (TC) and 25% with e-coli. Generally, the groundwater samples were dominated by Ca 2+ and HCO 3- ion water types. The variations between parameters were found not significant for all the parameters (p>0.05). water samples in the North are of good quality with a mean WQI of 96, but of poor quality in the South with a mean WQI of 144.6. HQ values for all the samples were less than 0.1, suggesting less harmful impacts of the heavy metal concentrations on human health. Overall, the results showed the presence of heavy metals in the groundwater sources sampled, however in quantities with low health risks either through oral or dermal channels. Groundwater within the communities is good for domestic purposes but needs treatment for drinking. To improve upon the study, it is recommended that further studies consider a higher number of samples and include other accessible groundwater stations where possible.

Faunus ater is a favoritemollusca that is often found on the Bale River. Local people use these snails as food for consumption along with their main food. Bale River itself is located adjacent to the cement factory, used water washing machines distributed to the river is feared to support the presence of lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) metals in the river. This study aims to analyze the relationship of Pb and Zn content in sediments to the content of Pb and Zn in Faunus ater. Data collection was carried out in Februari until April 2018. The relationship between Pb and Zn content in sediments with Pb and Zn content in the body of Faunus ater was analyzed by correlation analysis. The results of the data analysis showed that the metal content of Pb and Zn in sediment and Faunus aterwere found to vary. The highest Pb content in sediment was found at station 2 in March, amounting to 32.87 mg / kg. while the highest Zn content was found at station 1 in March amounting to 84 mg / kg. The relationship of heavy metals Pb and Zn in sediments to the content of Pb and Zn in the body of Faunus ater showed a negative correlation. The conclusion of this study is that there is no correlation between the content of Pb and Zn heavy metals in sediments on the content of lead Pb and Zn in the body of Faunus ater at the Bale Lhoknga River in Aceh Besar District. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
