Fire is a major type of disturbance that has important influences on ecosystem dynamics and carbon *** our understanding of ecosystem fires and their carbon cycle consequences is still limited,largely due to the difficulty of large-scale fire monitoring and the complex interactions between fire,vegetation,climate,and anthropogenic ***,using data from satellite-derived fire observations and ecosystem model simulations,we performed a comprehensive investigation of the spatial and temporal dynamics of China’s ecosystem fire disturbances and their carbon emissions over the past two decades(1997–2016).Satellite-derived results showed that on average about 3.47-4.53×10^(4) km^(2) of the land was burned annually during the past two decades,among which annual burned forest area was about 0.81-1.25×10^(4) km^(2),accounting for 0.33-0.51%of the forest area in *** burning emitted about 23.02 TgC per *** to satellite products,simulations from the Energy Exascale Earth System Land Model(ELM)strongly overestimated China’s burned area and fire-induced carbon *** burned area and fire-induced carbon emissions were high for boreal forest in Northeast China’s Daxing’anling region and subtropical dry forest in South Yunnan,as revealed by both the satellite product and the model *** results suggest that climate and anthropogenic factors play critical roles in controlling the spatial and seasonal distribution of China’s ecosystem fire *** findings highlight the importance of multiple complementary approaches in assessing ecosystem fire disturbance and its carbon *** studies are required to improve the methods of observing and modelling China’s ecosystem fire disturbances,which will provide valuable information for fire management and ecosystem sustainability in an era when both human activities and the natural environment are rapidly changing.

The synthesis of natural polysaccharides from durian seed gum-modified chitosan as complex nanoparticles was successfully developed. The complex formation of nanoparticles was confirmed by 1H NMR, indicating the interpenetrating polymer network between the durian seed gum and chitosan. The material's physical properties were analyzed using ZETA potential, SEM, FTIR, swelling assay, and spectrofluorometer. The material showed a pH-responsive behavior as evidenced by the swelling assay, in which the complex nanoparticle has a smaller swelling index in pH 5.5 and 7.4 than pH 2.1. The stability of the material was tested by checking the hydrodynamic diameter, which resulted in the modification of chitosan having higher kinetic stability than the durian seed gum under a diameter smaller than 1 μm. The chitosan-modified durian seed gum's hemolytic activity indicates blood compatibility with 4 % hemolytic activity under high nanoparticle concentration (400 μg/mL). More importantly, the cytotoxicity test of complex nanoparticles showed biocompatibility with NIH/3 T3 cells, whereas complex nanoparticles exhibited high toxicity towards HeLa cells. Moreover, complex nanoparticles showed strong intracellular blue fluorescence with selective activity towards cancer cells. Hence, this newly developed green synthesis of polyelectrolyte nanoparticles derived from durian seed gum modified with chitosan improved selectivity and intracellular fluorescence in tracking cancer cells. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Introduction: Thyroid dysfunction is a frequently observed clinical manifestation in females with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Emerging evidence demonstrates that Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) can safely manage chronic diseases and treatment-related symptoms, but the association between CHM use and hypothyroidism risk in RA females has yet to be fully described. We put forward this population-level nested case-control study to explore the risk of hypothyroidism among them with and without integrating CHM into routine care. Methods: Firstly, 8 685 females aged 20–80 years, diagnosed with RA between 2002 and 2010, were extracted from a nationwide health claims database. Among them, 192 cases developed hypothyroidism after RA by the end of 2013, and all of the enrollees were randomly matched to 960 controls without hypothyroidism at a 1:5 ratio. Results: After fitting the conditional logistic regression, we found those ever receiving routine care plus CHM indeed exhibited a lower hypothyroidism risk, with an adjusted odds ratio of 0.60 (95% confidence intervals: 0.44–0.81). Of particular importance was that initiating CHM within the first 3 years after RA onset and having a prolonged usage for more than 365 days were markedly correlated with a lower hypothyroidism chance. Conclusions: This study implicated that timely integrating CHM into conventional care may substantially reduce hypothyroidism risk among RA females. A further well-designed randomised controlled trial to specify the possible mechanism is needed. © 2024 Elsevier GmbH

Factor analysis is used to reduce data or summarize, from the old variable which is widely changed to a few new variables called factors, and still contains most of the information contained in the original variable. While regression analysis studies the relationship between one or more variables/independent variables (X) with one dependent variable (Y).The purpose of this paper is to describe how the factor analysis method can be used to provide solutions to operational problems such as problems with public transportation services with online applications, for this reason the research was conducted in identifying what factors influence the quality of online applications, and henceforth can be used in building mathematical models that can explain practical applications and predictions in the future. This research is explained in a quantitative descriptive form using exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis methods to process primary data and build models. The conclusion of this study is that there are 22 indicators and three factors that determine the quality of the application. The three factors produced are system and information factors, user impact factors, and promotion factors. These three factors can henceforth become a model in determining customer satisfaction as an end user of public transportation with an online application.

The isotopic compositions of samples returned from Cb-type asteroid Ryugu and Ivuna-type (CI) chondrites are distinct from other carbonaceous chondrites, which has led to the suggestion that Ryugu/CI chondrites formed in a different region of the accretion disk, possibly around the orbits of Uranus and Neptune. We show that, like for Fe, Ryugu and CI chondrites also have indistinguishable Ni isotope anomalies, which differ from those of other carbonaceous chondrites. We propose that this unique Fe and Ni isotopic composition reflects different accretion efficiencies of small FeNi metal grains among the carbonaceous chondrite parent bodies. The CI chondrites incorporated these grains more efficiently, possibly because they formed at the end of the disk’s lifetime, when planetesimal formation was also triggered by photoevaporation of the disk. Isotopic variations among carbonaceous chondrites may thus reflect fractionation of distinct dust components from a common reservoir, implying CI chondrites/Ryugu may have formed in the same region of the accretion disk as other carbonaceous chondrites. © 2024, CC BY.

Equine estrogens (EQs) are steroidal hormones isolated from the urine of pregnant mares and are used in the formulation of human medications. This study initially investigated the embryonic developmental toxicity of equilin (Eq) and equilenin (Eqn) in medaka (Oryzias latipes). Hatching was delayed, and malformations were observed in embryos exposed to nominal concentrations of 1 and 10 mg/L Eq and Eqn. To further investigate the molecular mechanism of developmental toxicity caused by Eq and Eqn, transcriptome and bioinformatics analyses were performed. Among 2016 and 3855 total differentially expressed genes (DEGs), 1117 DEGs overlapped between Eq (55.4% of total DEGs) and Eqn (29.0% of total DEGs). Gene ontology indicated effects in terms related to blood circulation and cell junctions. Pathway analyses using DEGs revealed that both Eq and Eqn treatments at 10 mg/L affected various KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) pathways such as neuroactive ligand–receptor interaction, mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling, retinol metabolism, and cytokine–cytokine receptor interaction. These results suggest that disruption of these KEGG pathways is involved in the developmental toxicity of EQs in medaka embryos. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Pongkor post-mining area is designated as one of the ecotourism areas in Bogor. This area has biodiversity of flora and fauna. This study aims to: (1) analysis the importance value index (IVI) of flora types;(2) analysis species richness index, species diversity index, and relative species abundance index;(3) analysis the beauty, the uniqueness and the rarity of the flora and fauna types. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive. Based on the identification results, 185 species of flora are distributed in this region. During the rainy season, 15 species of herpetofauna were identified, 32 types of aves, and 4 types of mammals, while in the dry season 19 species of herpetofauna were identified, 23 types of aves, and 2 types of mammals. Based on the results of the analysis conducted on these flora and fauna, there are flora species that have high IVI values and some beautiful and unique flora species that are in the category of endangered species. Besides that, there are also fauna species which have a value of species richness index, species diversity index, and relative species abundance index, as well as some beautiful, unique, and fauna species that are in the category of endangered species. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Ovarian cancer remains the third most prevalent and deadliest gynecologic malignancy worldwide, with most patients eventually developing resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy. This highlights a critical unmet need for innovative multitargeted therapies to address current treatment challenges. In this study, we identified 35 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) through integrated analysis of four GEO ovarian cancer datasets, with validation using TCGA data. Gene Ontology (GO) and KEGG enrichment analyses highlighted key tumor-associated pathways, and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network modeling prioritized CDK1 and TTK as high-value therapeutic targets. We evaluated the association between molecular genomic features and drug responses across the NCI-60 ovarian cancer cell line panel (IGROV1, OVCAR-3, OVCAR-4, OVCAR-5, OVCAR-8, NCI/ADR-RES, and SK-OV-3), using a series of salicylanilide-derived compounds and four FDA-approved drugs (cabozantinib, paclitaxel, rapamycin, and niclosamide) from the NCI Developmental Therapeutics program (DTP). Among these, NSC765690 (MCC22) emerged as the most promising candidate. It demonstrated potent antiproliferative activity, high target selectivity, and strong binding affinity to both CDK1 and TTK. Multi-omics integration, combined with AI-driven network modeling, further elucidated NSC765690's mechanism of action and its relevance to ovarian cancer pathogenesis. Additionally, ADMET and pharmacokinetic profiling confirmed its favorable drug-like properties and low predicted toxicity. Collectively, these findings establish NSC765690 as a potent dual-target inhibitor and exemplify a rational, data-driven drug discovery pipeline for overcoming chemotherapy resistance in ovarian cancer.

Whole-building simulation and field measurements were conducted at two levels: At the whole building level and at the local-space level, at a landmark building in Vancouver, Canada. The analysis shows that calibrated whole-building simulations are accurate enough and useful for the assessment of natural ventilation. For large complex spaces, the analysis needs to be coupled with computational fluid dynamics to predict thermal stratification. In the case study building, such coupling was not critical, because changes in the natural ventilation original design intent caused a large atrium to be decoupled from the rest of the building, which was detrimental to the effectiveness of the natural cooling of the building in the summer. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Constraints on sea-level rise during meltwater pulse 1B from the Great Barrier Reef

The timing, rate, and magnitude of rapid sea-level rise during Meltwater Pulse 1B (MWP-1B, ~11.45-11.1 ka) remain controversial. Robust constraints on past MWPs are crucial to future predictions of global ice sheet instability. Using 154 new and existing U/Th and calibrated C-AMS dates from coral, algae, and microbialites recovered during Integrated Ocean Drilling program Expedition 325, this study reconstructs reef development and relative sea-level (RSL) rise on the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). We identify 107 in situ RSL index points while refining estimates of vertical accretion and paleowater depth. Results show RSL rise during MWP-1B did not exceed 10.2-7.7 m or rates of 30-23 mm/yr, and was likely less. The GBR did not drown, indicating resilience to MWP-1B. These findings are more consistent with Tahiti and other Pacific records and do not support the Barbados record of MWP-1B as an abrupt step in global sea level, with a magnitude > 11 m.
