The aim of this work was to perform chemical and physicochemical analysis of oil of the camu camu (Myrciaria dubia (H.B.K) Mc Vaugh) seeds obtained at Caçari beach, on the banks of the Cauamé river, in Boa Vista city, Roraima state, Brazil. From the seeds, the dark green oil was 2.88% yield. The physical and chemical properties of the oil through the1H and13C NMR spectra: iodine content (55.39 g I2 100g-1), saponification index (178.14 mg KOH g-1), acidity (1.46 mg KOH g-1), olefinic/aliphatic hydrogen ratio (0.36), average molecular weight (934.16 g mol-1). Analysis of the signal displacements in1H and13C NMR spectra confirmed the presence of the fatty acid functional groups and unsaturated fatty acid unsaturations, so the concentration of linolenic acid was 0.43%, acid 12.02% oleic, oleic was 62.49% and saturated fatty acids 25.10%. The quantitative analysis of minerals by ICP-OES showed concentrations of elements: K, Na, P, Si (> 100 ppm);Mg, S (10 to 100 ppm) and Ti (-1). Copyright © 2018, AIDIC Servizi S.r.l.

Hair cortisol concentration (HCC) is a valuable biomarker for evaluating chronic stress in preschoolers. However, few studies have explored early life HCC and its associated factors. This prospective cohort study analysed the HCC in children aged 6-48 months and its associations with parental HCC as well as positive and negative parental mental health outcomes. We used data from the ongoing Longitudinal Examination Across Prenatal and postpartum Health in Taiwan (LEAPP-HIT) project, conducted in Taipei between 2020 and 2024. Hair samples were collected from both parents and children in 177 families (91 samples obtained during pregnancy and 86 during the postpartum period). The parents also completed self-reported questionnaires. Multiple linear regression was conducted to analyse the data. We observed a significant positive correlation between parents' and preschoolers' HCC. Furthermore, maternal depression (adjusted beta coefficient [aβ] = 0.09, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.02, 0.16) and perceived stress (aβ = 0.15, 95% CI = 0.02, 0.26) were positively associated with preschoolers' HCC. By contrast, higher maternal eudaimonia was associated with lower HCC in preschoolers (aβ = -0.11, 95% CI = -0.20, -0.01). For parents, maternal depression, anxiety, and perceived stress were independently associated with an increased HCC during the postnatal period, whereas maternal eudaimonia was negatively associated with HCC. Our results indicate that both mothers and fathers affect children's responses to stress. Assessment of cortisol stress hormone concentrations through hair samples can be a key means of detecting preschoolers' stress levels and enabling early intervention.

The aim of this work was to perform analysis of the a-tocopherol content by HPLC in Amazonian fruits consumed in Roraima state, Brazil, namely: ata brava, açaí, bacaba, buriti, buritirana, yellow murici, red murici, piaçaba braba, pupunha varieties red and yellow and tucumanzinho. A high concentration of the vitamin in the açaí pulp (1101.11 mg L-1) and of the ata brava seeds (644.27 mg L-1) was observed, but other fruits such as buritirana pulp (166.34 mg L-1), red murici (179.52 mg L-1), and piaçaba brava (8.77 mg L-1) presented low amounts of a-tocopherol. As for the yellow and red varieties of pupunha and the tucumanzinho, no presence of the isomer was detected. Identification and quantification of a-tocopherol cited in this work are unpublished for the ata brava, buritirana and red murici, as for the other fruits studied there were variations. Amazonian fruits may present a-tocopherol in its lipid composition, which is one of the most bioactive isomers of vitamin E, for this reason. Copyright © 2018, AIDIC Servizi S.r.l.

The importance of lightning has long been recognized from the point of view of climate-related phenomena. However, the detailed investigation of lightning on global scales is currently hindered by the incomplete and spatially uneven detection efficiency of ground-based global lightning detection networks and by the restricted spatio-temporal coverage of satellite observations. We are developing different methods for investigating global lightning activity based on Schumann resonance (SR) measurements. SRs are global electromagnetic resonances of the Earth-ionosphere cavity maintained by the vertical component of lightning. Since charge separation in thunderstorms is gravity-driven, charge is typically separated vertically in thunderclouds, so every lightning flash contributes to the measured SR field. This circumstance makes SR measurements very suitable for climate-related investigations. In this study, 19 days of global lightning activity in January 2019 are analyzed based on SR intensity records from 18 SR stations and the results are compared with independent lightning observations provided by ground-based (WWLLN, GLD360, and ENTLN) and satellite-based (GLM, LIS/OTD) global lightning detection. Daily average SR intensity records from different stations exhibit strong similarity in the investigated time interval. The inferred intensity of global lightning activity varies by a factor of 2–3 on the time scale of 3–5 days which we attribute to continental-scale temperature changes related to cold air outbreaks from polar regions. While our results demonstrate that the SR phenomenon is a powerful tool to investigate global lightning, it is also clear that currently available technology limits the detailed quantitative evaluation of lightning activity on continental scales. Fingerprints are unique to each individual who contributes to human identification in forensic cases. In this sense, the present work aimed to synthesize 1H-pyrazol-1-yl-4-phenylthiazoles and apply them as powder agents to reveal latent finger marks as an alternative and low cost related to powders found on the market. The compounds were characterized by infrared; fluorescence; 1H NMR; 13C NMR; laser diffractometer and SEM. In addition, cytotoxicity was also evaluated in oral keratinocytes showing high cell viability. The result of the hemolytic assay revealed that compound 2a does not present red cell cytotoxicity. The prepared powders were applied to fingermarks deposited on different surfaces providing quality visualization at level three so that human identification is possible.

Effect of natural rubber latex adhesive content on the physical and mechanical properties of agriboard from cassava stem wastes

Indonesia is one of the largest cassava producers globally, where the cassava wastes have not been optimally utilized yet. Cassava stems are lignocellulosic materials that are potential as raw materials for composite boards. This study aims to determine the effect of the adhesive content of Natural Rubber Latex (NRL) adhesive on the physical and mechanical properties of particleboard from the waste of cassava stems (agriboard). The NRL-based adhesives were formulated from natural rubber, poly(vinyl) alcohol, and isocyanate. The levels of NRL adhesive used were 10%, 15%, and 20%. The agriboard panels were prepared with a size of 400 mm×400 mm×10 mm and a target density of 0.7 g/cm3. The board was hot-pressed at 60°C under 10 MPa of pressure for 30 minutes. Evaluation of physical and mechanical properties was done according to JIS 5908-2003 standard. The results showed that the density of agriboard ranged from 0.65–0.74 g/cm3, and the moisture content was around 4.51–5.34%. Water absorption and thickness swelling of agriboard panel ranged from 61.84–70.84% and 23.67–28.77%, respectively. The results revealed that the dimensional stability of agriboard increased with the higher adhesive content, indicating that the urethane linkages produced from the reaction between –NCO of isocyanate and –OH of cassava stems enhanced the adhesion strength of the panel. The MOE and MOR values of agriboard were in the range of 229.20-331.38 MPa and 2.49-3.13 MPa, respectively. The mechanical properties of the panel also increased with higher adhesive content, and the optimum result was obtained by using 20% of adhesive content. In addition, the NRL-bonded panel did not emit formaldehyde, as the panel did not bond with formaldehyde-based adhesives. The results showed that cassava stems and NRL adhesive could be used as an alternative composite product that is renewable and environmentally friendly, particularly for non-structural and interior applications. Very-high-energy (VHE, E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray telescopes have traditionally conducted science with proprietary data and software. After two decades of operations, they have accumulated thousands of hours of observations whose full scientific exploitation cannot be accomplished by the restricted group of scientists operating these instruments. The advent of a new generation of open gamma-ray observatories and, at the same time, the forthcoming end of their scientific operations, call for the realisation of public archives of their observations. With the objective to facilitate the exchange and dissemination of data from current- and next-generation gamma-ray instruments, the "Data formats for gamma-ray astronomy" (GADF) initiative was formed to provide an open and standardised format for gamma-ray astronomical data. In this contribution, we present the effort to produce data of the Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC) telescopes in this standardised format. A total of 150 hours of observations of different sources were converted to the GADF format and then validated by analysing them with the open-source software Gammapy and comparing the results obtained against those produced with the MAGIC proprietary software, MARS. The effort to standardise and validate the MAGIC data in an open and shared format constitute the first fundamental milestone towards the realisation of its public data legacy. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

The first Large-Sized Telescope (LST-1) proposed for the forthcoming Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) has started to operate in 2019 in La Palma. The large structure of LST-1 - with a 23 m mirror dish diameter - imposes a strict control of its deformations that could affect the pointing accuracy and its overall performance. According to CTA specifications that are conceived to resolve e.g. the fine structure of galactic sources, the LST post-calibration pointing accuracy should be better than 14 arcseconds. To fulfill this requirement, the telescope pointing precision is monitored with two dedicated CCD cameras located at the dish center. The analysis of their images allows us to disentangle different systematic deformations of the structure. In this work, we investigate a complementary approach that offers the possibility to monitor the pointing of the telescope during the acquisition of sky data. After properly cleaning the events from the Cherenkov showers, the reconstructed positions of the stars imaged in the camera field of view are compared to their nominal expected positions in catalogues. This provides a direct measurement of the telescope pointing, that can be used to cross-check the other methods and as a real-time monitoring of the optical properties of the telescope and of the pointing corrections applied by the bending models. Additionally, this method benefits from not relying on specific hardware or dedicated observations. This work investigates strategic management processes of projects involved in the Brazilian aerospace field, addressing the Regional Center of the Amazon of the National Institute of Space Research. It proposes an approach in the monitoring of the evolution of projects by evaluation of professional performance, showing results in graphs and the need to survey and follow the most evident and significant technological advances in the mapping environment of land use and land cover in the Amazon. It addresses the main difficulties faced in the process of managing projects and people to achieve goals, needing to know the Geographic Information System tools used by employees, such as Terramazon, and their respective times consumed in this type of software. The work intends to serve as a basis for investigating, developing and implementing new management options that will reduce the efforts required by managers and administrators during the process of monitoring the evolution of projects. The methodology of Project Management Institute (PMI) and its Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) was used in this research work, ensuring an international quality.
