The utilization of natural fibres often entails a lesser environmental impact when compared to synthetic fibres. Biodegradable natural fibres minimize waste and pollution, and promote sustainability, but their weaker bonds limit their resilience. These issues can be addressed by customizing the composite's mechanical properties with natural and synthetic fibres. In this study, hybrid composites were created using the hand layup method with a novel dissimilar layer arrangement of neem (N), sisal (S), and glass (G) fibre and analyze its mechanical and thermal properties. Experimental observation shows that the GN composite had a higher maximum ultimate tensile strength of 26 N/mm2 than the GS, GNS, and GSN composites. The GN composite had a percentage elongation of 6.33%, similar to the percentage elongation of the GS composite (6.833%), and it also had a higher ultimate shear strength of 50 MPa. The composite GS absorbed 6.6 J energy, higher than the composites GN, GNS, and GNS, which absorbed 6.1 J, 4.5 J, and 4.5 J, respectively. The fractured surface's SEM images were obtained and analyzed for failure. The results demonstrated that the hybridization was effective, and better properties can be obtained by combining neem, sisal, and glass fiber, and it can be used for other requirements, including strength, weight, cost, and ecological impact. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

Massive timber is a category of heavy green engineered products, manufactured from glued or glued-free processes, to be used in more predictable structural performance in industrialized walls, floors and frames. Massive plywood panel emerges as a novelty for mass timber construction and, therefore, little information is scientifically available. Aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal 9: ‘Industry, innovation and infrastructures’, this study aims to verify this literature gap and raise topics regarding massive plywood panels using a structured systematic review literature. From bibliometric analysis, 12 journal papers, 10 conference papers and an editorial were prospected using Scopus and Web of Science databases. A predominance of studies from English language nations was confirmed. Seismic and monotonic performance of massive plywood are frequent topics in these investigations, whose results have indicated a promising scenario for construction. As no study on industry is available, a case study on massive plywood was sequentially developed to discuss features of commercial panels and perspectives of respective global industry. The North American Freres Engineered Wood and Finnish Metsä Wood are the only active manufacturers, and their massive plywood panels have been manufactured from modern production technologies and environmentally certified practices to be applied in low- and high-rise industrialized buildings.

This study investigates barriers to adopting Information and Communication technology (ICT) in road freight transportation, a sector where operational efficiency is crucial. A mixed-method approach comprising a Systematic Literature Review, the Fuzzy Delphi Method, and the Best and Worst Method was employed to evaluate these barriers. Five main obstacles were identified: lack of top management and investor support, resistance to change, absence of economic and political incentives, uncertainties regarding return on investment, and high technology investment costs. The most significant barrier was the lack of top management support, which influenced investment and strategic decisions. Theoretically, the research enhances understanding of technology adoption barriers in road freight transportation, providing insights for future academic and practical applications. From a managerial point of view, this study offers insights to improve ICT adoption strategies, thereby boosting sector efficiency and competitiveness. © 2024 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

System vulnerabilities are ubiquitous nowadays. In 2021, millions of cyberattacks exploited system flaws resulting in billions of losses. Despite massive vulnerability databases supported by the USA and China governments, there are still several unknown issues between them. This paper proposes a methodology to compare the National Vulnerability Database (NVD), the China National Vulnerability Database (CNVD), and the China National Vulnerability Database of Information Security (CNNVD). The results reveal that the CNNVD has 1,661 vulnerabilities entries more than the NVD and at least 40 more entries regarding Chinese vendors. Moreover, there is a temporal correlation of 0.917560 between the NVD and CNNVD. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this work is the first to normalize and compare the NVD, CNVD, and CNNVD using their data feeds.

The Human-Centered Internet of Things(HC-IoT)is fast becoming a hotbed of security and privacy *** users can establish a common session key through a trusted server over an open communication channel using a three-party authenticated key *** of the early authenticated key agreement systems relied on pairing,hashing,or modular exponentiation processes that are computationally intensive and *** order to address this problem,this paper offers a new three-party authenticated key agreement technique based on fractional chaotic *** new scheme uses fractional chaotic maps and supports the dynamic sensing of HC-IoT devices in the network architecture without a password *** projected security scheme utilized a hash function,which works well for the resource-limited HC-IoT *** results show that our new technique is resistant to password guessing attacks since it does not use a ***,our approach provides users with comprehensive privacy protection,ensuring that a user forgery attack causes no ***,our new technique offers better security features than the techniques currently available in the literature.

The industrial landscape has witnessed a growing demand for components exhibiting superior performance and extended lifespan, especially in parts made of stainless steels like AISI 409 steel, widely used in automotive exhaust systems, heat exchangers, and lightweight structural components. This study investigates the enhancement of surface properties of AISI 409 stainless steel through cathodic cage plasma nitriding (CCPN) and cathodic cage plasma deposition (CCPD) processes, focusing on the novel implementation of duplex treatments. The research aims to improve the mechanical strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of the steel by forming nitrides and vanadium nitride films on its surface. The duplex treatments, specifically N400D450 and N450D450, were found to significantly enhance the hardness of AISI 409 stainless steel, with the N450D450 sample achieving a maximum hardness of 1100 HV—a 461.22% increase compared to the untreated steel. This enhancement is attributed to the formation of a thick, uniform nitrided layer followed by a vanadium nitride film. The critical role of processing order was highlighted, with the sequence of nitriding followed by deposition proving more effective than the reverse. Corrosion resistance was markedly improved in the duplex-treated samples. The N450D450 sample exhibited an Ecorr of -198 mV and reduced jcorr values, indicating superior resistance to corrosive environments. These results underscore the synergistic effect of combining nitriding and vanadium deposition, which optimizes the formation of protective surface layers. Overall, this study demonstrates that duplex treatments significantly enhance the surface properties of AISI 409 stainless steel, offering the potential for extended component lifespan and reduced maintenance in industrial applications. The findings suggest that careful control of process parameters and treatment sequence is essential for achieving optimal results. © 2024, The Authors. All rights

The Circular Economy is driven by sustainable strategies of management and the reuse of materials and power to try to decrease the demand of resources and minimize the environmental impacts. Aligned to said perspective, the Industrial Symbiosis (IS) is opposite to the linear production's logic, enabling the sharing of resources, waste, and by-products, that is, the circular flow of power, water, materials, and information. In the last few years, to improve these IS strategies, platforms and tools were created to intermediate this process and facilitate the match between those who demand and offer waste and resources, such as the online waste markets or e-marketplaces. From this perspective, the objective of this study is to evaluate how these tools contributed to the IS process, going beyond the problem of the local factor. For this purpose, ten online platforms, found in the literature, were selected. The analysis was made based on the identification of key elements, which enabled the creation of a list with different types of traded materials, sectors and areas served, how wide was the service, the year when the activities started and, ultimately, the business model adopted. As a result, the evaluation shows that these tools enhance the symbiosis process because they approach the parties and facilitate the identification of synergies. Generally, the use of online platforms widens the geographic scope of the IS processes, enabling the interaction of parties from different places and regions. Was observed that these tools are characterized by the use of intelligent systems, based on algorithms that identify and recommend relations, providing greater assertiveness and speed to the decision-making process. Among the research's findings, we must stress that the IS potential extends much beyond the reuse of waste. There are opportunities for other synergies, such as infrastructure and service sharing. A New Class of Fillers in Mixed Matrix Membranes: Use of Synthetic Silico-Metallic Mineral Particles (Ssmmp) as a Highly Selective Component for Co2/N2 Separation

Membrane-based CO2 separation technology is a promising technology of low operating and energy costs and high scalability. This work describes the influence of synthetic silico-metallic mineral particles (SSMMP) and SSMMP/ionic liquids (IL) associated with polysulfone (PSF) to produce new mixed matrix membranes (MMM) for post-combustion technology. SSMMP is the precursor of synthetic talc undergoing no hydrothermal process resulting in a low-cost, energy-demanding, and CO2-free emission material due to its synthesis process. SSMMP have many reactive OH groups free on their surface making this material ideal to be compatibilized in a polymeric matrix. IL was immobilized in SSMMP to further improve CO2 affinity. As far as we know is the first time this material is used to obtain MMMs. MMMs were prepared with concentrations of 0.5, 1, 2 and 3 wt% of fillers via melting solution and solvent evaporation. The obtained MMMs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) with elemental mapping, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Permeability analyzes were carried out at 25°C and 0.4MPa. The addition of pristine SSMMP and SSMMP/Im(nBu)Tf2N, improved membrane selectivity decreasing the permeability for the majority tested filler content. When using SSMMP/Im(nBu)I to obtain MMMs a different behavior was observed decreasing selectivity (except for MMM with 2% (w/w) of filler) and increasing permeability in all studied concentrations. The best result was obtained for sample SSMMP/Im(nBu)Tf2N (2%w/w) achieving a selectivity of 71.9, four times higher than pristine polysulfone membrane. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A Methodology for Obtaining and Validating Parameters for Surface Repairs Using the Pulsed Gmaw Process

This study aims to develop a methodology for obtaining and validating surface parameters using the pulsed GMAW process, capable of producing a weld with appropriate geometric properties as a response. For this purpose, profiling was used as a capture tool together with stability analysis algorithms and metallic transfer criteria. The Fast Fourier Transform was used to analyze the intensity of electric current and voltage oscillogram for the delimitation of the most efficient pulse, detachment characteristics, and drop frequency in each analyzed parameter. In parallel, mathematical modelling of the overlapping of welding beads and volume filling simulation was carried out to obtain a repair methodology of satisfactory quality. Such strategies defined a working window with a voltage between 22 V and 28 V and an intensity of electric current between 190 A and 220 A. For the analyzed material, the best response values were at the base intensity of electric current of 80 A, base time of 1.47 ms, drop separator intensity of electric current of 110 A, drop separator time of 0.5 ms, the peak intensity of electric current of 375 A and peak time of 2.2 ms, corresponding to a working frequency of 240 Hz. With this work methodology, using signal analysis and profiling filming, it is possible to adapt the choice of process parameters to any material with energy and cost savings. These techniques are highly efficient and low-cost. In addition, the GMAW-P transfer mode allows quality work with the intensity of electric current values lower than conventional GMAW. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
