Synthesis and characterization of Ba and Sr celsian ceramics from zeolites obtained from amazonian bauxite waste clay

This study explored the use of bauxite washing clay (BWC), a mining residue from the Amazon region, as a raw material for the synthesis of zeolites, followed by their conversion into barium and strontium celsian ceramics. The BWC, rich in gibbsite and kaolinite, demonstrated significant potential due to its high aluminum and silicon content. Zeolites were synthesized through alkaline activation with 1 M NaOH at 350 °C for 4 h, followed by hydrothermal treatment at 100 °C for 24 h. Ion exchange with Ba 2+ and Sr 2+ cations was then performed, and the obtained materials were thermally treated at 1200 °C. The results showed the formation of monoclinic barium celsian with high crystallinity, while Sr-celsian exhibited partial conversion, retaining nepheline as a secondary phase. Monoclinic barium celsian exhibited superior mechanical properties, achieving a compressive strength of 15.9 MPa in compositions with lower silica content, whereas Sr-celsian reached 11.94 MPa. In conclusion, this study highlights the potential of BWC as a valuable and sustainable precursor for advanced ceramic production.

This study investigates the dispersion of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in soil-cement composites using different concentrations of three polycarboxylate ether superplasticizer admixtures. Physicochemical characterization of superplasticizer admixtures (SP), MWCNT suspensions, and their application in soil-cement composites was performed to identify stable and optimized MWCNT dispersions with SP concentrations. Over four weeks, analyses of hydrodynamic diameter indicated the efficacy of selected admixtures in dispersing MWCNTs compared to aqueous solutions. Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy confirmed that the most efficient suspension maintained its stability over 60 days without significant changes in the composite's behavior. The incorporation of superplasticizer admixtures led to a reduction in zeta potential and an increase in steric stability in the MWCNT suspensions. Scanning electron microscopy illustrated MWCNTs interconnect microparticles, emphasizing the crucial role of dispersants in achieving proper dispersion. Remarkably, the superplasticizer admixture at 0.3% concentration emerged as the most effective dispersant. Raman and AFM analyses agreed that the concentration of superplasticizers directly impacts dispersion and defect density in MWCNTs. The results demonstrate the efficient dispersion of MWCNTs in soil-cement composites with the selected superplasticizer admixtures, ensuring stability and uniform distribution.

Room temperature ferromagnetism (RTFM) is the main condition for searching for materials to be applied in spintronics. Beyond the candidates, the diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) are potential materials for such application. The introduction of a foreign transition metal ion in the semiconductor lattice may lead to the RTFM, where the intrinsic ferromagnetism developed by a nonmagnetic ion is preferable for spintronics application. In this work, single-phase Cu-substituted zinc oxide was synthesized by a fast polymeric precursor method, providing nanocrystallites from 4 to 11 nm. Copper hindered grain growth, even for high Cu concentrations. The crystallites assembled to superstructures with petal and spike-like morphologies, following an unconventional crystallization. The texturization observed during the crystallization led to the development of unexpected weak RTFM. The number of oxygen vacancies is too small to promote the RTFM since few atoms of copper find attached to the vacancies. Probably the RTFM arises from overlapped spin-split bound magnetic polarons (BMP) due to the interaction of the hybridized O 2p and localized unoccupied twofold t2 subband of Cu 3d states. Although the sintering of pure and Cu-doped ZnO particles was equivalent, the electrical properties diverged. The copper insertion enhanced the resistivity and the non-linearity coefficient reached values higher than the unity. This is maybe due to the presence of copper at the grain boundaries forming a Schottky barrier. Neither the non-ohmic electrical behavior nor the RTFM from nanostructured superstructures was ever reported before. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Concerning water resources, several ordinances and legislation determine standards and conditions for the discharge of effluents into water bodies. However, several contaminants are not covered by these guidelines because they are found in low concentrations and due to little knowledge of their long-term effects. These contaminants are called emergents, and this category includes drugs, such as anti-inflammatory drugs. The electrocoagulation process associated with advanced oxidation comes up as an alternative to conventional effluent treatment processes, and the objective of this work was to evaluate this process using scrap iron as sacrificial electrodes in the treatment of synthetic effluents containing Ibuprofen. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to quantify the drug in synthetic effluents. The CCRD 24 was used in an experimental design, having as independent variables evaluated the concentration of contaminants, applied current, the concentration of the primary oxidizing agent H2O2 and the reaction time. The optimized conditions determined by statistical analysis were drug concentration of 5 mg.L-1, H2O2 concentration of 200 mg.L-1, current of 5 A and 150 min. The removals obtained under these conditions were higher than 92% in the aqueous phase, showing that ECP technique has the potential to treat contaminants such as drugs present in effluents and waters. © 2021, CC BY.

In this work, the Ni/γ-Al2O3 (Ni/Al) and Ni/LA2O3-γ-Al2O3 (Ni/La-Al) catalysts were synthesized by the all-in-one method and used in the Dry Reforming of Methane (DRM). The catalysts were characterized and a smaller Ni crystallite size for the La-promoted catalyst was observed. The effects of the feed ratio (CH4:CO2), the use of La as a promoter of the catalyst support, and the use of the structured system in DRM reaction were investigated. Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were applied to investigate the catalytic deactivation effects. The deactivation of the structured catalysts was also evaluated by applying different weight hourly space velocities (WHSV): 20, 30, and 40 L gcat-1 h-1. Besides that, the regeneration of the catalysts was developed through the comparison of the treatment with CO2 and H2 atmospheres. The catalytic study of the powder samples showed that the lower the CH4:CO2 ratio the higher reactants conversion for both catalysts. It was also noted that the CH4:CO2 feed ratio of 4 provided a conversion 10 % higher for the Ni/La-Al catalyst in comparison with the Ni/Al catalyst. The analogy between the powder and structured systems implied greater conversion for the structured system. Furthermore, the greater and the lower deactivation of the structured systems were identified for the WHSV values of 40 and 20 L gcat-1 h-1, respectively. Machine learning applied to forecasting the manufacturing time of new products prototypes and ETO products: An exploratory study

Industry 4.0 is a transformative initiative that integrates various technologies and reshapes industrial processes, production methods, and business models. However, forecasting future events within this paradigm shift presents significant challenges. Predicting the cycle time for new product development (NPD) in a dynamic and competitive environment, especially in a highly globalized market driven by innovation, is crucial. Previous research has shown that prototype manufacturing lead times are key parameters for predicting NPD times-to-market. This study investigates the predictive capabilities of artificial intelligence algorithms in estimating manufacturing lead times under varying part geometries and materials at an aerospace and medical equipment company. By leveraging predictive analysis and machine learning techniques, specifically Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Random Forest (RF) algorithms, the proposed methodology demonstrates its efficacy and variations. The results show that top-performing models achieve an accuracy rate exceeding 87 % and an average absolute error of less than one day, which have significant practical benefits for project production planners. They can utilize the most popular AI frameworks on easier-to-use programming platforms to estimate the time required to manufacture their prototypes, predict their new product development (NPD) cycle times, and negotiate lead times for in-house and third-party manufacturing more effectively, thereby improving project planning and delivery.

Real-time acquisition of human pulse signals in daily life is clinically important for cardiovascular disease monitoring and ***,we propose a smart photonic wristband for pulse signal monitoring based on speckle pattern analysis with a polymer optical fiber(POF)integrated into a sports *** different speckle pattern processing algorithms and POFs with different core diameters were *** results indicated that the smart photonic wristband had a high signal-to-noise ratio and low latency,with the measurement error controlled at approximately 3.7%.This optimized pulse signal could be used for further medical diagnosis and was capable of objectively monitoring subtle pulse signal changes,such as the pulse waveform at different positions of Cunkou and pulse waveforms before and after *** the assistance of artificial intelligence(AI),functions such as gesture recognition have been realized through the established prediction model by processing pulse signals,in which the recognition accuracy reaches 95%.Our AI-assisted smart photonic wristband has potential applications for clinical treatment of cardiovascular diseases and home monitoring,paving the way for medical Internet of Things-enabled smart systems.
