Brazil is currently the sixth world largest lubricating oil consumer,as a result,the sixth largest used lubricating oil (ULO) producer,with an annual ULO production of about one million ***,due to the environmental consequences and also to the large amount of this waste,it becomes necessary to quantify and qualify the impacts resulting from ULO management *** study evaluates,through the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology,the current ULO management system in southern *** comparisons regarding the environmental performance scenarios were defined with the use of eight impact categories: land use,nonrenewable energy,global warming potential,aquatic acidification potential,aquatic eutrophication potential,human toxicity potential,terrestrial ecotoxicity potential and carcinogens *** LCA was conducted based on Simapro,using the "IMPACT 2002+ for ULO v2.12/IMPACT 2002+" *** scenarios comprised the two ULO management models currently used in *** first,which is designated in the study,by TTrR scenario and the second,regarded as TsTR *** LCA results showed that the re-refine phase,in the TsTR scenario,presents lower impact when compared to the corresponding TTR scenario *** TsTR scenario presented the greatest impacts in seven categories (carcinogens,terrestrial ecotoxicity,land use,eutrophication,global warming,use of nonrenewable energy and acidification),corresponding to about 87.5％ of all the *** the contrary,the TTR scenario presented lower impacts in these seven categories,impacting more on only one category (human toxicity).In relation to transportation,the opposite occurs,transport in the TTR scenario presents a larger contribution,impacting 100％ more than transport in the TsTR *** presence of the transshipment center decreases the amount of re-refining impacts in 87.5％ of the categories in the TTR *** in the TTR scenario contributes relatively more to the fact that

Lanarkite is a mineral formed by a combination of lead, sulphur, and oxygen atoms arranged in the general chemical formula Pb2SO5 (PSO) that crystallises with monoclinic symmetry (belonging to the C2/m space group, No. 12). This mineral was first discovered in Lanarkshire, Scotland and was named after its location. PSO has a unique structure comprising alternating penta-coordinated lead [PbO5] and tetra-coordinated sulphur [SO4] clusters. This lanarkite-type structure has recently attracted significant scientific interest and has been the focus of the superconducting material research community. However, its chemistry needs to be explored further. This article presents a comprehensive investigation on the chemical bonding, electronic structure, and spectroscopic properties of the lanarkite-type PSO structure from a computational perspective. Thus, different functionals in the DFT (e.g., PBE, PBE0, PBESOL, PBESOL0, BLYP, WC1LYP37, and B3LYP) were assessed to accurately predict their fundamental properties. All the DFT calculations were performed using a triple-zeta valence plus polarisation basis set. Among all the DFT functionals tested in this study, PBE showed the best agreement with the experimental data available in the literature. Our results also reveal that the [PbO5] clusters are formed with three Pb–O bond lengths, with values of about 2.32, 2.59, and 2.84 Å, respectively, while the [SO4] clusters have the same S–O bond length of 1.57 Å. We performed a complete topological analysis of this system to comprehend these structural differences. Additionally, the PSO structure has an indirect band gap energy of 2.9 eV and an effective mass ratio (mℎ∗ /me∗) of about 0.415 (using PBE calculations) which may, in principle, indicate a low recombination of electron-hole pairs in the lanarkite structure. Therefore, we believe that a detailed understanding of their electronic structures, spectroscopic properties as well as their chemical bonding is critically important

The objective of this paper is to present a view of the geodiversity of the Historical Center of João Pessoa, located in Mata da Aldeia chart (scale 1:25.000), Paraíba State, northern Brazil, in order to insert sites in urban geotouristic routes. For this, a mapping of this geodiversity and its geoheritage was carried out through the inventory of sites with relevant value. Geologically, the chart is part of a sedimentary basin that developed on a faulted crystalline basement, whose Plio-Pleistocene reactivation resulted in a stepped substrate, and the terrain has geotouristic potential from the point of view of its geoheritage. It was necessary a detailed study of the geoscientific and historic literature of the area and a detailed field work, having a look about the physical substrate reflecting the importance of this as a heritage element of space. Tambiá fountain, Trincheiras fossil, Ireres doline, Stone Square, Santo Antônio fountain, Miracles fountain and Sanhauá fault were identified as geotouristic sites. It is therefore pertinent to interconnect this urban heritage to tourism in the area, so that more motivation arouses the interest of tourists, now turned to the bias of the lithosphere and hydrosphere. © 2020 Beijing Normal University

The chemicals in post-tanning are partially retained by the leather, and the fractions remaining in the process are discharged with the wastewater. Current literature has an extensive number of studies characterizing tannery effluents. However, few studies have evaluated how groups of chemicals applied to the leather impact the quality of wastewater generated in the process. Thus, this study aims to evaluate and reduce the impact of chemicals used in the post-tanning process on the main quality parameters of the wastewater. The assessment and reduction of the pollution load of leather chemicals were carried out using a formulation from a Brazilian tannery as a case study. Results showed that retanning agents (natural and synthetic tannins) were responsible for high inorganic pollution load in the wastewater, and the synthetic tannins were more toxic than the natural ones. The fatliquoring agents were responsible for the highest chemical oxygen demand load in the wastewater and were the chemical group that presented the highest cytotoxicity. The fixing agent and the dye contributed to the inorganic pollution load of the wastewater, and the nitrogen load of the wastewater was mainly related to the neutralizing retanner and the dye. The adjustment of the chemicals supply showed depletion in the pollution load of wastewater. The obtained leather showed quality within the required specifications of the tannery, and the formulation cost was reduced by 24%. © 2021 XXXVI International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies Congress 2021, IULTCS 2021.
