The dispersion of SARS-CoV-2 in aquatic environments via the discharge of domestic and hospital sewage has been confirmed in different locations. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the possible impacts of zebrafish (Danio rerio) exposure to SARS-CoV-2 peptide fragments (PSPD-2001, 2002, and 2003) alone and combined with a mix of emerging pollutants. Our data did not reveal the induction of behavioral, biometric, or mutagenic changes. But we noticed an organ-dependent biochemical response. While nitric oxide and malondialdehyde production in the brain, gills, and muscle did not differ between groups, superoxide dismutase activity was reduced in the "PSPD", "Mix", and "Mix+PSPD" groups. An increase in catalase activity and a reduction in DPPH radical scavenging activity were observed in the brains of animals exposed to the treatments. However, the "Mix+PSPD" group had a higher IBRv2 value, with NO levels (brain), the reduction of acetylcholinesterase activity (muscles), and the DPPH radical scavenging activity (brain and muscles), the most discriminant factors for this group. The principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical clustering analysis indicated a clear separation of the "Mix+PSPD" group from the others. Thus, we conclude that exposure to viral fragments, associated with the mix of pollutants, induced more significant toxicity in zebrafish adults than in others.

A novel luminescence boron compound, [2-(4, 5- diphenyl-1-imidazole-2-yl) pyridine] (DPIP-BPh2), has been synthesized by the reaction of pyridine-imidazole- based ligand. The decomposed temperature of DPIP-BPh2 is high than 200°C by thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). For the three-layer organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) with the structure ITO/NPB/DPIP-BPh2/Alq3/Mg-Ag, an emission band centering at 490 nm with the maximum brightness of 1300 cd/m2 was observed, indicating a perfect blue OLED (CIE= 0.22, 0.36). DPIP-BPh2 forms a new family of organometallic emitting materials which which may bring benefits to people in practical applications. © 2020 IEEE.

The development of numerical simulations for metal additive manufacturing (AM) processes to predict distortion and residual stress is considered a strategic tool for supporting the industrialization of AM. However, the complexity of these analyses, due to the intricacies of thermal cycles, demands substantial computational resources and a deep understanding of the key process variables to achieve accurate models. This study aims to evaluate the influence of thermal parameters on the results of thermomechanical simulations using the Inherent Strain Method (ISM). Specifically, the analysis investigates the effects of estimated peak temperatures on thermal analyses, distortion, equivalent stress, and microstructure volume fraction in maraging 300 steel (MS300) parts simulated via finite elements. The results indicate that varying the peak temperature of the models causes a linear change in the thermal simulation output, referred to as the exposed energy fraction (EEF) in the Simufact Additive software, which determines the thermal history of the process in fabricated geometry. However, the distortion behavior—by the mechanical analyses that used the EEF as input—deviated from this linearity across specific regions, emphasizing the need for localized accuracy assessment within complex geometries. Equivalent stress decreased with lower peak temperatures, highlighting a correlation between these factors, while the microstructure volume fraction remained unchanged across different peak temperatures. The simulation results were validated by comparing the simulated measurements with experimental data of the same geometry manufactured via laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). Displacement in the simulation was assessed by comparing the diameters of the front and back faces, as well as through surface deviation analysis, which highlighted variations between the scanned experimental geometry and the simulated part. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of ordered subsets maximization expectation (OSEM) and filtered backprojection (FBP) reconstruction algorithms for the qualitative interpretation of DAT-SPECT. Methods: Data were acquired using an anthropomorphic striatal phantom and a gamma camera (SPECT/CT). Images were reconstructed using different values of the covariates applied in the OSEM and FBP algorithms (iteration, subsets, order, and cut-off frequency). Image quality was compared according to each set of covariates used in the reconstruction and extracted quantitative parameters of the image quality, such as C, CV RCR, and RSR, as well as the angular coefficients of the edges in regions of interest. Results: Variations in the order from 0 to 10 do not influence the image if a trustworthy cut-off frequency range for FBP (0.9 to 1.6) and OSEM (1.2 to 1.5) are used. For OSEM, the iteration value and the number of subsets that guarantee better quality were those suggested by the developer of the algorithm used (3i8s). Conclusion: For a quality image, it is necessary to use the range of values found for the covariables order and cut-off frequency of the Butterworth filter in the FBP and OSEM reconstruction. OSEM reconstruction shows superiority in the images compared with FBP when the recommended three iterations and eight subsets are used. In the quantitative analyses, the evaluation showed that increasing the number of updates while allowing a better distinction of certain areas, culminates with a degradation image, making it inappropriate for clinical. © 2020, Sociedade Brasileira de Engenharia Biomedica.

Cancer is a group of diseases and the second leading cause of death according to World Health Organization. Mathematical and computational methods have been used to explore the cancer cells spread and the mechanism of their growth. We study a cancer model that exhibits both periodic and chaotic attractors. It describes the interactions among host, effector immune, and cancer cells. It is observed fluctuations in the population of cells. The fluctuation range can be associated with the appearance of tumour cells. In this work, we use machine learning algorithms for the prediction of fluctuations. We show that our machine learning classification is able to identify fluctuations that are associated with the growth rate of cancer cells. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Due to their enhanced tribological properties that contribute to an increased useful life of components, martensitic stainless steels are an excellent option for industrial applications such as hydroelectric, petrochemical, civil construction and mineral processing plants. In the present investigation, the erosive wear of AISI 410 martensitic stainless steel is evaluated after thermal treatment by quenching and tempering by mass loss, under erosive attack at 30° and 90° incidence angles, using a self-made jet slurry erosion equipment controlling parameters such as speed, volume of fluid, temperature and concentration of erosive particles of erodent. The characterization of the eroded samples was carried out in terms of the microstructure (SEM) and microhardness as well as the particle size distribution (LG) and morphology of the erodent. It was possible to establish the relationship between the slurry erosive wear and the physical properties inherent of stainless steel for this particular experimental configuration, concluding that the steel presents better resistance to jet slurry erosion wear when compared to austenitic steel commonly used in the industry. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper presents Koch fractal aperture-coupled patch antennas operating in industrial scientific and medical band at 60 GHz (57 GHz to 64 GHz), for on-chip application. This work is the continuation of the development of aperture-coupled antennas with aperture and patch element built in 2 μm-thick aluminum lying on two layers of silicon with a height of 200 μm. The use of Koch fractal allowed the development of aperture-coupled antennas of greater perimeter with more metal in the patch elements, which promoted an increase in the gain. The observed gain for Koch fractal level 2 was of 10.55 dBi, with a bandwidth of 7.23 GHz, covering the ISM 60 GHz Band, and an increase of less than 10% in total patch dimension. For Koch fractal levels 0 (square), a polarization close to circular was achieved, with an axial ratio less than 6 at resonant frequencies. © 2018 IEEE.
