Genes encoding early signaling events in pathogen defense often are identified only by their phenotype. Such genes involved in barley-powdery mildew interactions include Mla, specifying race-specific resistance; Rarl （Required for Mla12-specified resistance1）, and Roml （Restoration of Mla-specified resistancel）. The HSP90-SGT1-RAR1 complex appears to function as chaperone in MLA-specified resistance, however, much remains to be discovered regarding the precise signaling underlying plant immunity. Genetic analyses of fast-neutron mutants derived from CI 16151 （Mla6） uncovered a novel locus, designated Rar3 （R_equired for Mla6-specified resitance3）. Rar3 segregates independent of Mla6 and Rarl, and rar3 mutants are susceptible to Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei （Bgh） isolate 5874 （A VRar）, whereas, wild-type progenitor plants are resistant. Comparative expression analyses of the rar3 mutant vs. its wild-type progenitor were conducted via Barleyl GeneChip and GAIIx paired-end RNA-Seq. Whereas Rarl affects transcription of relatively few genes; Rar3 appears to influence thousands, notably in genes controlling ATP binding, catalytic activity, transcription, and phosphorylation; possibly membrane bound or in the nucleus, eQTL analysis of a segregating doubled haploid population identified over two-thousand genes as being regulated by Mla （q value/FDR=0.00001）, a subset of which are significant in Rar3 interactions. The intersection of datasets derived from mla-loss-of-function mutants, Mla-associated eQTL, and rar3-mediated transcriptome reprogramming are narrowing the focus on essential genes required for Mla-specified immunity.

A novel parallel Remote Center of Motion (RCM) mechanism is proposed for a surgical robot designed to perform minimally invasive needle-based interventions for lung cancer diagnosis and treatment. The proposed robot provides four degrees of freedom (DOFs) to orient and move a surgical needle within a spherical coordinate system. The RCM is beneath the skin surface to minimize the invasiveness of the surgical procedure while providing the required workspace. This compact, patient-mounted robot benefits from a design capable of measuring the pure interaction forces between the needle and the tissue. In this paper, the mechanism design and its specifications are described. The kinematic analysis is presented and isotropy of the mechanism for targeting tumors is studied. Finally, the performance of the proposed robot is evaluated experimentally.

Coordination among maritime assets is crucial for reducing task latencies and enabling the effectiveness and success of the mission. Specifically, determining when the assets are dispatched to task locations, optimizing how the assets traverse to the task location, and how much time the assets wait at various intermediate points on the way to task location is a difficult problem due to dynamic and uncertain characteristics of the mission environment. In this paper, motivated by the navy's relevant operational needs to effectively route search assets in a dynamic mission environment, we consider a coordinated asset routing problem within a multi-objective framework allowing for stopping en route. The key objective is to find routes for a set of assets, given the start and end locations, such that the total traversal time, dispatch time and the wait time at each intermediate location is minimized. Given a task graph over Time-dependent Multi-objective (TM) risk maps, we formulate and solve a Time-dependent Multi-objective Shortest Path (TMSP) problem to determine asset routes in a multi-task scenario. We employ the method of compromised solution along with mixed integer linear programming to solve this NP-hard problem. Numerical results are provided by applying our proposed approach to an asset routing mission scenario.

Network interfaces are present in a variety of battery powered computer systems, such as notebooks, ultrabooks, tablets and mobile phones. Considering that the battery life is still a constraint, there are opportunities for power management by reducing the power consumption of idle network interfaces. In this work, a dynamic timeout power policy for network interfaces is presented, incorporating workload estimation and a problem optimization at runtime, thus providing power savings and suitable performance.

An unidirectional three-phase to three-phase dc-link converter is proposed, in this paper. It is composed of three unidirectional ac-dc-ac three-leg converters with a shared-leg. The three-leg converter is composed of a non-controlled leg, two controlled legs and a dc-link. A suitable model and control strategy of the systems, including a synchronization method, are proposed. The synchronization method, associated with the PWM strategy allow the grid currents and load voltages have the same phase angle of the input converter voltages. This method ensures sinusoidal grid currents and mitigate the zero-crossing distortions normally caused by the use of diodes. Simulation and experimental results are also presented for validation purposes.

The penetration of distributed generation is growing, and today it is not unusual to see at the same site, equipment that consumes energy working side by side with power sources. To manage and optimize the use of every resource, and to avoid unbalances when the system operates near its limits, the need for very short-term load forecasting is inevitable. In this paper, the use of an already known, fast forecast algorithm, based on double seasonal exponential smoothing is proposed. His real-time usability, with only limited historical data are tested, and the mechanism behind to achieve that are explained. Results, the functionality and reliability on a real world system are also presented and discussed, leading to some concluding remarks at the end of the paper. © 2013 IEEE.

Background: Surveillance of health care-associated infections is an essential component of infection prevention programs, but conventional systems are labor intensive and performance dependent. Objective: To develop an automatic surveillance and classification system for health care-associated bloodstream infection (HABSI), and to evaluate its performance by comparing it with a conventional infection control personnel (ICP)-based surveillance system. Methods: We developed a Web-based system that was integrated into the medical information system of a 2200-bed teaching hospital in Taiwan. The system automatically detects and classifies HABSIs. Results: In this study, the number of computer-detected HABSIs correlated closely with the number of HABSIs detected by ICP by department (n=20;r=.999 P<.001) and by time (n=14;r=.941;P<.001). Compared with reference standards, this system performed excellently with regard to sensitivity (98.16%), specificity (99.96%), positive predictive value (95.81%), and negative predictive value (99.98%). The system enabled decreasing the delay in confirmation of HABSI cases, on average, by 29 days. Conclusions: This system provides reliable and objective HABSI data for quality indicators, improving the delay caused by a conventional surveillance system. © 2020 JMIR Publications Inc. The exact calculation of all-terminal reliability is not feasible in large networks. Hence estimation techniques and lower and upper bounds for all-terminal reliability have been utilized. We propose using an ordered subset of the mincuts and an ordered subset of minpaths to calculate an all-terminal reliability upper and lower bound, respectively. The advantage of the proposed approach results from the fact that it does not require the enumeration of all mincuts or all minpaths as required by other bounds. The performance of the algorithm is compared with the first two Bonferroni bounds, for networks where all mincuts could be calculated. The results show that the proposed approach is computationally feasible and reasonably accurate. Thus allowing one to obtain bounds when it not possible to enumerate all mincuts or all minpaths.

This paper presents a topology based on the interconnection of single-phase H-bridge converters and a three-phase converter acting as a shunt active power filter. Contributions for the model, PWM approach and control strategies are presented to the studied converter. As compared to the conventional solution by using just H-bridges converters, the proposed one reduces the number of semiconductor and storage devices while keeping the same characteristics of high number of levels. A comprehensive THD analysis will be considered followed by simulated and experimental outcomes. © 2013 IEEE.

The great diversity in the architecture of biomedical devices, coupled with their different communication protocols, has hindered the implementation of systems that need access to these devices. Given these differences, arises the need to provide access to such devices in a transparent way. In this sense, this paper proposes an service-oriented architecture to access biomedical devices as a way to abstract the mechanism for writing and reading data on these devices, thus contributing to the increase in quality and productivity of biomedical systems in order to enable that the focus of the development team of biomedical software is almost exclusively intended for its functional requirements, i.e. business rules relevant to the problem domain. For the development of this work, technologies such as the XML language and the Java programming language were used and concepts of Software engineering as Design Patterns. After the proposition of the architecture, tests in order to validate the proposed architecture were performed.
