The main goal in design of grid connected photo voltaic systems is to maximize the energy generation based on local energy requirements, weather conditions, economic and social impact. These factors ought to be taken into account to perform a model that allow design grid-connected photo voltaic systems. In this paper a design-dimensioning model for a small grid-connected photo voltaic systems is developed. This model is based on energy conditions instead of power conditions. There are shown the two main trends that are typically used in the design process and the calculation of the two main components of the system (generator and inverter). An example of the design for a system located in Bogota-Colombia is studied.

During the past two decades, there has been a considerable number of power quality (PQ) monitoring programs completed throughout the world. The information collected during these surveys can provide a detailed picture of the expected electrical environment help utilities to plan their future networks in relation to power quality performance. The mass of data gathered for a sample of sites of a large-scale power quality (PQ) survey of this nature has the potential to reveal good and bad influences on power quality if an appropriate procedure for analysis can be determined. If it is known which characteristics are more important in determining the levels of particular PQ disturbances, it could be expected that other sites with similar characteristics would also present similar PQ levels. This paper aims to assess the levels of PQ disturbances and factors that influence good or bad PQ levels in a large scale PQ survey. For this, the Australian National power quality benchmark survey data has been analysed and compared for the dominant factors in long term PQ data. In this analysis, multivariable linear regression (MVLR) has been identified as a useful tool for factor analysis of complex power quality data.

The rapid growth of the biomedical literature and genomic information presents a major challenge for determining the functional relationships among genes. In this study, we develop a Web-based bioinformatics software environment called FAUN or feature annotation using nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) to facilitate both the discovery and classification of functional relationships among genes. Both the computational complexity and parameterization of NMF for processing gene sets are discussed. We tested FAUN on three manually constructed gene document collections, and then used it to analyze several microarray-derived gene sets obtained from studies of the developing cerebellum in normal and mutant mice. FAUN provides utilities for collaborative knowledge discovery and identification of new gene relationships from text streams and repositories (e.g., MEDLINE). It is particularly useful for the validation and analysis of gene associations suggested by microarray experimentation.
