The Flying Robot Trial League (FRTL), from RoboCup Brazil, is a competition that stimulates the development of autonomous and intelligent flying robots for inspection and operation in pipeline lanes and oil installations. In this context, this work presents the system developed by the BDP-UaiFly Team for the 2022 competition, using the off-the-shelf Parrot Bebop 2 to execute the Equipment Transport phase. This paper presents in detail the system platform and the navigation and sensing strategies implemented for autonomous navigation and image processing. In particular, the strategy adopted for cargo transportation based on servo-visual control is presented. Practical experiments validate the proposed solutions for the phases of the challenge.

In this research, we have been developed teaching materials for electromagnetics that demonstrate theories using real-world actual applications (capacitors, coils, piezoelectric elements, Wireless Power Transfer(WPT), WiFi, direct-current motor, etc.) presented as animations and video data via Web services. Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and JavaScript were used to create the Web services for teaching materials. Recently, the lack of academic ability of Japanese engineering course students has become a large social problem at Japanese higher education. In particular, in the field of electrical engineering education, the visualization and mathematical abilities of students have been declining remarkably. In addition, today's teaching materials for educational institutions in Japan tend to reply primarily on rote learning. However, we consider that rote learning is not the primary method for university education. We tested our new developed materials on students learning motivation of electromagnetics and evaluated their effectiveness with some questionnaires. It was clear that the new teaching method has effectiveness for increasing learning motivation of Electromagnetics. © 2020 The Institute of electrical Engineers of Japan.

Biomechanics plays an integral role in cancer development and progression. Accurately quantifying the mechanical properties of cells would enable a more comprehensive understanding of cancer, complementing conventional biochemical and genetic analyses. Here, we introduce a microfluidic platform for measuring single cell viscoelasticity at multiple frequencies in a high-throughput and label-free manner. Using the Coulter principal and a unique microfluidic channel geometry, our device records resistance pulses in order to estimate a cell's viscoelastic phenotype. Industrial conveyor belt systems are an efficient means of transport due to their adaptability and extension. Nonetheless, such systems are prone to various failures, including but not limited to: idler anomalies; belt tears; and pin misalignment which can cause significant disruptions in the production process. Preemptive maintenance and health monitoring of these conveyor belts is a common practice for avoiding these failures, but a challenging task due to the rarity of comprehensive anomaly detection datasets in the area, with current works aimed at evaluating the belt's immediate condition at fixed points. This study addresses this research gap by comparing multiple machine learning techniques, such as a proposed Hybrid Neural Network (HNN) tailored for classification of multiple anomaly classes, as well as machine learning approaches for time series based on feature extraction, Catch22, Minirocket Arsenal, and Time Series Forest. Our proposed HNN architecture performed better in classifying and distinguishing between different types of anomalies, with an accuracy of 95.55%. The obtained results suggest a promising approach for the area of predictive maintenance for industrial conveyor systems, as well as gives insights on possible improvements on the model and future research.

Research has been carried out to monitor vehicle tires before they are used and can reduce damage, including overcoming vehicle fuel waste because air pressure is continuously monitored. This research aims to utilize the MPX5500DP sensor as an air pressure device, the LM35 sensor as a temperature reader, and a buzzer based on IoT to build a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The MPX5500DP and LM35 sensor inputs to the Arduino Uno microcontroller are distributed by the NodeMCU, fitted with a Wi-Fi module. The Blynk application sends and displays the data on a smartphone using the IoT-based. Based on this research, data on the percentage of errors in monitoring air pressure and tire temperature on vehicles were obtained by comparing the data to the pressure gauge and thermometer: 1—the results of the average reading of the sensor error value. MPX5500DP air pressure against pressure gauge is 5.3%. 2—the average reading of the LM35 sensor error value on the temperature thermometer is 6.8%. With this research, the air pressure and temperature in the tires can be monitored in real-time via a smartphone using the IoT-based.

This paper compares single microstrip antenna designs and microstrip arrays used for Manpack Radar with X-band frequency. Antenna array configurations were investigated for 1x2, 1x4, and 1x32 elements. A gain increase is required for each additional patch element. Patch dimensions are set at 9.17 x 10.10 x 0.035 mm. The parameters needed are X-Band frequency with gain >15 dBi, beamwidth angle of ≤5°, and bandwidth of more than 60 MHz. The simulation results show a good match with the target required for the 9.3 GHz frequency. The largest gain value numerically is obtained on the antenna with 32 patches, which is 17.1 dBi.

In this research study, we compare the predictive performance of two advanced deep learning-based models in order to provide a solution to TACE (Transarterial Chemoembolization) response prediction in HCC (Hepatocellular Carcinoma) patients. Using entire abdominal CT scans enabled a broader perspective available for the model, eliminating the need for segmentation during the preprocessing. Making use of both single-phase and multi-phase CT imaging, we have used DenseNet121 and have obtained an accuracy of 80% for the multi-phase *** Relevance: The ability to predict the effectiveness of TACE treatment prior to its administration makes it possible to provide a better decision-making aid for physicians and patients.

The popularity of Metaverse as an entertainment, social, and work platform has led to a great need for seamless avatar integration in the virtual world. In Metaverse, avatars must be updated and rendered to reflect users' behaviour. Achieving real-time synchronization between the virtual bilocation and the user is complex, placing high demands on the Metaverse Service Provider (MSP)'s rendering resource allocation scheme. To tackle this issue, we propose a semantic communication framework that leverages contest theory to model the interactions between users and MSPs and determine optimal resource allocation for each user. To reduce the consumption of network resources in wireless transmission, we use the semantic communication technique to reduce the amount of data to be transmitted. Under our simulation settings, the encoded semantic data only contains 51 bytes of skeleton coordinates instead of the image size of 8.243 megabytes. Moreover, we implement Deep Q-Network to optimize reward settings for maximum performance and efficient resource allocation. With the optimal reward setting, users are incentivized to select their respective suitable uploading frequency, reducing down-sampling loss due to rendering resource constraints by 66.076% compared with the traditional average distribution method. The framework provides a novel solution to resource allocation for avatar association in VR environments, ensuring a smooth and immersive experience for all users.

We have developed the system to measure the effectiveness of influencer marketing by a general-purpose method using web browsers and web servers. This system uses the “COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application” (COCOA) as a reference model. COCOA was developed by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in response to the epidemic of COVID-19, to detect suspicions of close contact while maintaining anonymity. The same model was applied to the cyberspace, and the “close contact confirmation method in the cyberspace” was considered in this study. We implemented a prototype and confirmed its functional validity while solving implementation problems using the Cross-Storage library.

Chiral exceptional point enhanced active tuning and nonreciprocity in micro-resonators

Exceptional points (EPs) have been extensively explored in mechanical, acoustic, plasmonic, and photonic systems. However, little is known about the role of EPs in tailoring the dynamic tunability of optical devices. A specific type of EPs known as chiral EPs has recently attracted much attention for controlling the flow of light and for building sensors with better responsivity. A recently demonstrated route to chiral EPs via lithographically defined symmetric Mie scatterers on the rim of resonators has not only provided the much-needed mechanical stability for studying chiral EPs, but also helped reduce losses originating from nanofabrication imperfections, facilitating the insitu study of chiral EPs and their contribution to the dynamics and tunability of resonators. Here, we use asymmetric Mie scatterers to break the rotational symmetry of a microresonator, to demonstrate deterministic thermal tuning across a chiral EP, and to demonstrate EP-mediated chiral optical nonlinear response and efficient electro-optic tuning. Our results indicate asymmetric electro-optic modulation with up to 17dB contrast at GHz and CMOS-compatible voltage levels. Such wafer-scale nano-manufacturing of chiral electro-optic modulators and the chiral EP-tailored tunning may facilitate new micro-resonator functionalities in quantum information processing, electromagnetic wave control, and optical interconnects. © 2024, CC BY.
