In this paper, for the first time, deep learning (DL) based artificial neural network (ANN) is applied to model the effects of various random variations: work function fluctuation, random dopant fluctuation, and interface trap fluctuation, on gate-all-around silicon nanosheet MOSFETs. The number of fluctuations for each source variation is used as input features and their effects on devices of interest are studied qualitatively and quantitatively. The key figures of merit (FoM) are also extracted accurately from the transfer characteristics, which shows the competency of the ANN model in the domain of device modeling. © 2022 IEEE.

The phenomenon of urbanization in Indonesia is inevitable. The new residential and economic centers in suburban areas is also a problem in city development. The gradual planning and development of smart cities in a living lab require consideration of the right location for a living lab. This study wants to show that suburban areas as city buffer zones can become living laboratories for smart city development. The diversity of situations in cities and regencies across Indonesia, the potential for resources, and the problems faced are the challenges of developing a living lab - Garuda Smart City Framework. This research uses the method of reviewing the literature of research publications for the last five years (2019–2023) to obtain information on Smart City development in Indonesia. We collected selected articles from databases in Google Scholar, IEEE, and Scopus using the Publish and Perish 8. The search keywords used were garuda AND Smart city AND Framework. The findings show the potential and dynamics of buffer zones to become appropriate living laboratories. Smart city regional planning can more holistically involve neighborhoods and address urban issues.

SINR: Deconvolving Circular SAS Images Using Implicit Neural Representations

Circular synthetic aperture sonars (CSAS) capture multiple observations of a scene to reconstruct high-resolution images. We can characterize resolution by modeling CSAS imaging as the convolution between a scene's underlying point scattering distribution and a system-dependent point spread function (PSF). The PSF is a function of the system bandwidth and determines a fixed degree of blurring on reconstructed imagery. In theory, deconvolution overcomes bandwidth limitations by reversing the PSF-induced blur and recovering the scene's scattering distribution. However, deconvolution is an ill-posed inverse problem and sensitive to noise. We propose an optimization method that leverages an implicit neural representation (INR) to deconvolve CSAS images. We highlight the performance of our SAS INR pipeline, which we call SINR, by implementing and comparing to existing deconvolution methods. Additionally, prior SAS deconvolution methods assume a spatially-invariant PSF, which we demonstrate yields subpar performance in practice. We provide theory and methods to account for a spatially-varying CSAS PSF, and demonstrate that doing so enables SINR to achieve superior deconvolution performance on simulated and real acoustic SAS data. Mutations in tumor suppressor genes, such as Tumor Protein 53 (TP53), are heavily implicated in aggressive cancers giving rise to gain- and loss-of-function phenotypes. While individual domains of the p53 protein have been studied extensively, structural information for full-length p53 remains incomplete. Functionalized microprocessor chips (microchips) with properties amenable to electron microscopy permitted us to visualize complete p53 assemblies for the first time. The new structures revealed p53 in an inactive dimeric state independent of DNA binding. Residues located at the protein-protein interface corresponded with modification sites in cancer-related hot spots. Changes in these regions may amplify the toxic effects of clinical mutations. Taken together, these results contribute advances in technology and imaging approaches to decode native protein models in different states of activation. © 2022 Wiley-VCH GmbH.

Recently, Metaverse has attracted increasing attention from both industry and academia, because of the significant potential to integrate real and digital worlds ever more seam-lessly. By combining advanced wireless communications, edge computing and virtual reality (VR) technologies into Metaverse, a multidimensional, intelligent and powerful wireless edge Meta-verse is created for future human society. In this paper, we design a privacy preserving targeted advertising strategy for the wireless edge Metaverse. Specifically, a Metaverse service provider (MSP) allocates bandwidth to the VR users so that the users can access Metaverse from edge access points. To protect users' privacy, the covert communication technique is used in the downlink. Then, the MSP can offer high-quality access services to earn more profits. Motivated by the concept of “covert”, targeted advertising is used to promote the sale of bandwidth and ensure that the advertising strategy cannot be detected by competitors who may make counter-offer and by attackers who want to disrupt the services. We derive the best advertising strategy in terms of budget input, with the help of the Vidale-Wolfe model and Hamiltonian function. Furthermore, we propose a novel metric named Meta-Immersion to represent the user's experience feelings. The performance evaluation shows that the MSP can boost its revenue with an optimal targeted advertising strategy, especially compared with that without the advertising.

Super-resolution algorithms aim to produce magnified high-resolution versions from low-resolution images. Some methods, however, are prone to generate blur during the process. Simple sharpening filters are adopted to alleviate this type of artifact. However, the actual effectiveness of this approach is not clear-cut in the literature. This work evaluates the effect of three simple sharpening filters on the quality of images obtained from super-resolution methods. Two metrics were considered in the evaluation: the Peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) metric, and the Learned Perceptual Image Patch Similarity (LPIPS). One of the filters could consistently improve the LPIPS metric of magnified images from diverse benchmark sets on top of seven super-resolution methods. The increments obtained for the perceptual metric seem to occur due to the sharpening effect. Improvements on PSNR values were not as consistent. © 2022 SPIE.

Describing the semantic content of an image via natural language, known as image captioning, has recently attracted substantial interest in computer vision and language processing communities. Current image captioning approaches are mainly based on an encoder-decoder framework in which visual information is extracted by an image encoder and captions are generated by a text decoder, using convolution neural net-works (CNN) and recurrent neural networks (RNN), respectively. Although this framework is promising for image captioning, it has limitations in utilizing the encoded visual information for generating grammatically and semantically correct captions in the RNN decoder. More specifically, the RNN decoder is ineffective in using the contextual information from the encoded data due to its limited ability in capturing long-term complex dependencies. Inspired by the advantage of gated recurrent unit (GRU), in this paper, we propose an extension of conventional RNN by introducing a multi-layer GRU that modulates the most relevant information inside the unit to enhance the semantic coherence of captions. Experimental results on the MSCOCO dataset show the superiority of our proposed approach over the state-of-the-art approaches in several performance metrics.

Image captioning aims to generate a description of visual contents with natural language automatically. This is useful in several potential applications, such as image understanding and virtual assistants. With recent advances in deep neural networks, natural and semantic text generation has been improved in image captioning. However, maintaining the gradient flow between neurons in consecutive layers becomes challenging as the network gets deeper. In this paper, we propose to integrate an auxiliary classifier in the residual recurrent neural network, which enables the gradient flow to reach the bottom layers for enhanced caption generation. Experiments on the MSCOCO and VizWiz datasets demonstrate the advantage of our proposed approach over the state-of-the-art approaches in several performance metrics.

Unmanned aerial vehicle-aided communication (UAB-BS) is a promising solution to establish rapid wireless connectivity in sudden/temporary crowded events because of its more flexibility and mobility features than conventional ground base station (GBS). Because of these benefits, UAV-BSs can easily be deployed at high altitudes to provide more line of sight (LoS) links than GBS. Therefore, users on the ground can obtain more reliable wireless channels. In practice, the mobile nature of the ground user can create uneven user density at different times and spaces. This phenomenon leads to unbalanced user associations among UAV-BSs and may cause frequent UAV-BS overload. We propose a three-dimensional adaptive and fair deployment approach to solve this problem. The proposed approach can jointly optimize the altitude and transmission power of UAV-BS to offload the traffic from overloaded UAV-BSs. The simulation results show that the network performance improves by 37.71% in total capacity, 37.48% in total energy efficiency and 16.12% in the Jain fairness index compared to the straightforward greedy approach. Joint state and parameter estimation based on constrained zonotopes

This note presents a new method for set-based joint state and parameter estimation of discrete-time systems using constrained zonotopes. This is done by extending previous set-based state estimation methods to include parameter identification in a unified framework. Unlike in interval-based methods, the existing dependencies between states and model parameters are maintained from one time step to the next, thus providing a more accurate estimation scheme. In addition, the enclosure of states and parameters is refined using measurements through generalized intersections, which are properly captured by constrained zonotopes.
