The development of programs for parallel architectures focusing to achieve high indices of performance is a hard task. The programmer must deal with two classes of problems, one related to describing the application concurrency and data dependencies, and other related to exploiting efficiently the processing resources of the architecture, in order to obtain an efficient implementation for a specific hardware configuration. Since cluster technology allows building parallel computers are highly scalable-particularly in terms of number of nodes, processors and amount of memory-programming and execution levels must be considered independently to achieve performance portability. This paper presents Anahy, an environment for exploiting High Performance computing on cluster architectures. It is highlighted the Anahy programming interface and some features of its implementation as well as a performance evaluation. © 2005 IEEE.

The lattice cellular Potts model is widely used to represent physical and biological cellular systems. Standard implementations of this model in the literature employ inefficient Monte Carlo protocols to select elements (labels) of the lattice storing the investigated system. Recently, we proposed a new parallel algorithm, the Random Walker algorithm (RW), that can generate speedups from 3 to 10 times in simulations of this model. In this paper we present a distributed implementation of the RW algorithm exploiting parallel architectures. Our tests in a computer cluster show speedups between 5.7 and 15.6 in relation to the distributed standard algorithm. © 2006 IEEE.

Most of the traffic in the Internet nowadays is transmitted using TCP, or transport control protocol. The stability of the Internet depends on the congestion control being performed by this protocol, as well as equivalent mechanisms employed by other protocols. The ECN technique (explicit congestion notification), in which packets forwarded by routers are marked whenever congestion is about to occur (or already occurring), allows a transmitter to reduce the sending rate accordingly without relying on packet drops. ECN has not been fully explored, particularly regarding multicast protocols. This paper presents models of poll-based reliable multicast protocols and extends them with a new single-rate congestion control mechanism that harnesses ECN. Simulation results show that it provides fairness between flows from multiple sources, and is TCP-friendly. Further, they demonstrate the substantial efficiency gain obtained with the use of ECN in multicast.

This paper presents a cycle of action research conducted to investigate techniques for visualization and filtering of awareness information in a mobile collaborative game titled Warming Up The Brain. This study aims to identify the awareness information that should be presented to the users as well as how to arrange the awareness information in the mobile devices, considering its small screen size. In order to avoid problems such as information overload and information intrusiveness, the awareness information were filtered based on the group data. The game was used by 30 players, divided in 7 rounds. The usability evaluation show that the awareness information were well absorbed by users.

The Human-Centered Internet of Things(HC-IoT)is fast becoming a hotbed of security and privacy *** users can establish a common session key through a trusted server over an open communication channel using a three-party authenticated key *** of the early authenticated key agreement systems relied on pairing,hashing,or modular exponentiation processes that are computationally intensive and *** order to address this problem,this paper offers a new three-party authenticated key agreement technique based on fractional chaotic *** new scheme uses fractional chaotic maps and supports the dynamic sensing of HC-IoT devices in the network architecture without a password *** projected security scheme utilized a hash function,which works well for the resource-limited HC-IoT *** results show that our new technique is resistant to password guessing attacks since it does not use a ***,our approach provides users with comprehensive privacy protection,ensuring that a user forgery attack causes no ***,our new technique offers better security features than the techniques currently available in the literature.

We search for gravitational-wave (GW) transients associated with fast radio bursts (FRBs) detected by the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment Fast Radio Burst Project, during the first part of the third observing run of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo (2019 April 1 15:00 UTC-2019 October 1 15:00 UTC). Triggers from 22 FRBs were analyzed with a search that targets both binary neutron star (BNS) and neutron star-black hole (NSBH) mergers. A targeted search for generic GW transients was conducted on 40 FRBs. We find no significant evidence for a GW association in either search. Given the large uncertainties in the distances of our FRB sample, we are unable to exclude the possibility of a GW association. Assessing the volumetric event rates of both FRB and binary mergers, an association is limited to 15% of the FRB population for BNS mergers or 1% for NSBH mergers. We report 90% confidence lower bounds on the distance to each FRB for a range of GW progenitor models and set upper limits on the energy emitted through GWs for a range of emission scenarios. We find values of order 10⁵¹-10⁵⁷ erg for models with central GW frequencies in the range 70-3560 Hz. At the sensitivity of this search, we find these limits to be above the predicted GW emissions for the models considered. We also find no significant coincident detection of GWs with the repeater, FRB 20200120E, which is the closest known extragalactic FRB. © 2023. The Author(s).
