Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly central to the development of generative AI across diverse fields. While some anticipate these models may mark a step toward artificial general intelligence, their ability to handle complex causal reasoning remains unproven. Causal reasoning is essential for true general intelligence, particularly at Pearl’s interventional and counterfactual levels. In this work, we introduce ***, a dataset of over 8,000 natural causal questions in Portuguese, collected from real human interactions. Built upon a novel three-axis taxonomy, *** categorizes questions by causal intent, action requirements, and the level of causal reasoning needed (associational, interventional, or counterfactual). Our findings from evaluating ***’s seed questions with GPT-4o reveal that this LLM faces challenges in handling interventional and relation-seeking causal queries. These results suggest limitations in using GPT-4o for extending causal question annotations and highlight the need for improved LLM strategies in causal reasoning. *** provides a foundation for advancing LLM capabilities in causal understanding, particularly for the Portuguese-speaking world. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

This paper addresses cybersecurity challenges in integrating Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) into applications. It proposes a risk analysis approach that focuses on identifying threats and vulnerabilities exploited by malicious actors, which is validated through a case study on prompt injection attacks. The results demonstrated the efficacy of our approach in identifying and quantifying vulnerabilities in Large Language Models (LLMs). © 2024 University of Split, FESB.

Active mobility is becoming an essential component of the green transition in modern cities. However, the challenge of designing an efficient network of protected bike lanes without disrupting existing road networks for motorised vehicles remains unsolved. This paper focuses on the specific case of Milan, using a network approach that considers street widths to optimise the placement of dedicated bike lanes at the edges of the network. Unlike other network approaches in this field, our method considers the actual shapes of the streets, which introduces a realistic aspect lacking in current studies. We used these data to simulate cycling networks that maximise connectivity while minimising the impact of bike lane placement on the drivable network. Our mixed simulation strategies optimise for edge betweenness and width. Furthermore, we quantify the impact of dedicated bike lane infrastructure on the existing road network, demonstrating that it is feasible to create highly effective cycling networks with minimal disruption caused by lane width reductions. This paper illustrates how realistic cycling lanes can be simulated using road width data and discusses the challenges and benefits of moving beyond one-dimensional road data in network studies. There is no longer any question as to whether or not IT can deliver value to the organizations: This is already considered a fact. IT value is one of the most researched topics, but little is said about what is "value", most of the research is about IT investments evaluation methods and their classifications. We lack a better understanding of what IT value is, not a single definition but what are the elements that contribute to the IT value. We present our research in progress, whose main objective is to build an IT value Catalog revealing its composition and prescriptions (operacionalizations) on how to obtain contributions to the IT value from each model's element. © 2017 IADIS Press.

In this study, we present a new heuristic for the multi-stream multi-source multicast routing problem. The core of the heuristic proposed in this study is based on a generalisation of Voronoi diagrams in graphs. It allows building the trees needed to serve the demands of multiple sessions efficiently. Also, the proposed algorithm supports multiple sources. We performed an extensive experimental analysis of different network and problem configurations such as the number of sessions, nodes, sources and participants per session. We compare the proposed algorithm to heuristics proposed previously. The results of the experiments showed that the heuristic proposed in this study finds high-quality solutions efficiently. © 2018 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Analysis of the Recognition of Facial Movements of App Designed for Rehabilitation of People with Facial Paralysis

Peripheral facial paralysis (PFP) causes deficits in muscle and sensory functions of the face due to damage to the facial nerve. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of the "Fisiobem" app in rehabilitating patients with PFP through facial mimicry exercises. The app uses the device’s camera to identify the user and measure the range of motion during the exercises, applying the ARKit framework to quantify the intensity of the movements. We conducted a usability study with 34 participants unaffected by PFP, performing mimics with different amplitudes. Results show that glasses did not affect recognition accuracy in exercises such as raising eyebrows, frowning, and closing the eyes tightly. As for wrinkling the nose exercise, glasses impacted higher intensities. As for the beard or mustache, lower lip protrusion, compressing the lips, smiling, showing teeth and blowing out filling cheeks were not affected. However, when smiling with lips together, beard and mustache influenced intensities above 75%. It is important to highlight that this study has limitations, such as the sample size and lack of consideration for ethnic diversity among participants. Future research with larger and more diverse samples is needed to validate and generalize these findings and explore the nuances of interactions between facial features and facial recognition algorithms. Despite these limitations, the approach facilitated by the "Fisiobem" application offers significant benefits, especially for patients with PFP who face challenges in accessing specialized therapists. It allows patients to complement their treatment by performing guided facial mimicry exercises at home. The application helps individuals accurately perform the exercises and effectively track the progress of their rehabilitation. © 2024 by the authors of this article.

Concerns and limitations in agile software development: A survey with Paraguayan companies

This year, the Agile Manifesto completes seventeen years and, throughout the world, companies and researchers seek to understand their adoption stage, as well as the benefits, barriers, and limitations of agile methods. Although we have some studies and questionnaire data at the global level, we know little about how the Paraguayan software community is adopting agile methods. The present work conducted a research to set up the current stage of adoption, initial concerns and barriers of implementation of agile methods in software development companies in Paraguay. An online survey was sent to representatives of 53 Paraguayan companies. Of these, 9 (17%) companies responded. The concern about adopting more agile methods (44.44% of respondents) was the lack of reliability in product quality if developed using agile methods. The main barrier was the lack of experience (66.66%) of the companies. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a generalization of the extension principle for fuzzy numbers. The minimum is substituted by a general binary aggregation function. It is used to extend the usual metric for real numbers to fuzzy numbers, generating a new family of fuzzy-valued distances between fuzzy numbers. Then, some conditions on these aggregation functions are studied to hold the fuzzy number properties of the generated distances. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
