Given a set of underwater sensors coordinates that are usually determined by a specialist for the design of a watershed monitoring system, where should be placed the sinks and the base station? The answer may be the minimization of the Variable Internode Distance. In such cases, a two dimensional architecture is acceptable because it is a shallow water system. Hence, in this paper, it is proposed a two-level node distance minimization for Underwater Wireless Sensor Network for monitoring systems. The mathematical method employed for optimization is the Hyperbolic Smoothing approach and the proposed method includes the placement of the base-station in the algorithm. Copyright 2014 ACM.

Description logics based languages have became the standard representation scheme for ontologies. They formalize the domain knowledge using interrelated concepts, contained in terminologies. The manual definition of terminologies is an expensive and error prone task, therefore automatic learning methods are a necessity. In this paper we lay the foundations of a multiple concept learning method that uses virtual concepts to aid the learning process, yielding more compact and readable terminologies. In this paper, we define virtual concepts and how they can be implemented in the current concept learning methods. We show through experiments how the method stacks up against other multiple concept learning methods.

The importance of Systematic Review to computerscience research as a scientific method has to be assessed, because interdisciplinary and Internet scientific research are demanding it. Hence, this work is a quantitative systematic review of Systematic Reviews in the domain of computerscience. Scientific Journal papers have been extracted from a number of representative databases between the years 2006 and 2012. From an initial amount of 3,097 papers, only 138 were selected resulting in a survival rate of 4.46%.

The efficiency of the assignment of personal ads to any blog page relies in the ability to understand or to direct the consumers’ desires. Ultrasonic velocity profiler method is now an accepted tool in modern experimental fluid mechanics and fluid engineering. As a relative new technology, different applications and improvements of the technique are being researched over the last years. This paper presents an environment to develop new algorithms to improve the ultrasonic velocity estimation technique. The system uses the LabVIEW modular platform integrated with mathematical script language used in many signal-processing software. The phase-shift algorithm was implemented and tested using the proposed system. The results are validated with standard velocity measurements generated by a rotating cylinder.

Software Defined Networking (SDN) has emerged as a new paradigm that highly increase the network management flexibility through simple but powerful abstractions. The key idea is decoupling the control plane, which makes the forward decisions, from the data plane, which effectively makes the forward. However, the OpenFlow, the main SDN enabler, is designed mainly by wired networks characteristics. As consequence, Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) is not suitable for operating as control plane and many wireless networks features are neglected in the OpenFlow, e.g.: power control and network ID. In addition, there are few effort research to extend SDN to wireless networks and these existing works focus on very specific issues of this integration. In this paper, we propose an architecture to extent the OpenFlow functionalities in order to proper deal with wireless networks, including an approach for transporting the control plane over wireless multihop networks. The extensions include new rules, actions, and commands, which bring the network management flexibility to the wireless context. We validated our proposal by implementing and testing some extensions in a small real world testbed. As a proof of concept, we illustrate the OpenFlow capability of isolation between research and production traffics in a wireless backhaul.

This paper aims to minimize the problems encountered in the handling of large amounts of visual data, proposing a scalable environment for distributed applications and information visualization (IV) with multiple coordinated views. The benefits of this architecture are improving the processing power for visualization tools, reduce the rendering time of visualization techniques, reducing the problem of occlusion and aggregation, among others. We will be presented usability testing, and comparative testing of performance (rendering time, memory usage, and processor) with an application of IV in a single desktop.

Description Logics based languages have emerged as the standard knowledge representation scheme for ontologies. Typically, an ontology formalizes a number of dependent and related concepts in a domain, encompassed as a terminology. As defining such terminologies manually is a complex, time consuming and error-prone task, there is great interest and even demands for methods that learn terminologies automatically. Learning a terminology in Descriptions Logics concerns to learn several related concepts. This process would greatly benefit of an ideal order to determine which concept should be learned before another concept. Arguably, such an order would yield rich and readable terminologies, as previously, and interrelated concepts formerly learned could be used to induce the description of further concepts. In this work, we contribute with a formal definition of the concept and terminology learning problems and from such definitions we devise an algorithm for finding an ordering through concept taxonomy discovery, that should be followed when learning several related concepts. We show through an experiment that by following the order detected by the algorithm, we are able to afford a more readable terminology than methods that do not conceive an ideal order or do not learn concepts in a dependent way.
