This paper presents a novel approach for bird species classification based on color features extracted from unconstrained images. This means that the birds may appear in different scenarios as well may present different poses, sizes and angles of view. Besides, the images present strong variations in illuminations and parts of the birds may be occluded by other elements of the scenario. The proposed approach first applies a color segmentation algorithm in an attempt to eliminate background elements and to delimit candidate regions where the bird may be present within the image. Next, the image is split into component planes and from each plane, normalized color histograms are computed from these candidate regions. After aggregation processing is employed to reduce the number of the intervals of the histograms to a fixed number of bins. The histogram bins are used as feature vectors to by a learning algorithm to try to distinguish between the different numbers of bird species. Experimental results on the CUB-200 dataset show that the segmentation algorithm achieves 75% of correct segmentation rate. Furthermore, the bird species classification rate varies between 90% and 8%, depending on the number of classes taken into account.

Dynamic adaptation is the customization of a business process to make it applicable to a particular situation at any time of its life cycle. Adapting requires experience, and involves knowledge about various, internal and external, aspects of business. Thus, we argue for the application of adaptation rules, considering the context of a particular process instance. Furthermore, we state that a context-based adaptation environment should go beyond, and learn from decisions, as well as continuously identify new unforeseen situations (context definitions). The aim of this paper is to present a computational engine that infers the need to update situations and adaptation rules, suggesting changes to them. An application scenario is presented to discuss the usage of the proposal.

Eye tracking is an active multidisciplinary research field, which has shown great progress in the last decades. Eye tracking is the process of monitoring eye movements in order to determine the point of gaze or to analyze motion patterns of an eye relative to the head or the environment. This process provides essential information to tasks such as face detection, usability testing, biometric identification, human behavior studies and human-computer interaction, among others. The term \textit{remote} is used whenever the eye tracker components do not have any physical contact with the user's body. In general, highly accurate commercial eye trackers are expensive. However, nowadays it is possible to develop low-cost remote eye tracking systems with off-the-shelf hardware components. By this perspective, an overview of eye tracking technologies and applications is given in this paper, and the state-of-the-art work in the field is discussed as well. Moreover, hardware components and underlying computer vision processes are also presented in this paper.

Social learning is focused for that learning occurs within a social context, in a place where people can work and learn collaboratively. New technologies, such as social network, wiki, blogs, among others social tools, enable collaborative work and are important facilitators of social learning process. These tools provide an easy mechanism for people to communicate and collaborate, which help in the creation of knowledge. However, collaboration is one of the several necessary components for learning. It is important that all acquired knowledge be organized to be reused faster, easily and efficiently. This paper aims to propose an approach to generate learning objects from social tool, in order to organize the information to be easily reused, improving social learning.

Indonesia is a country straddling the equator line setting off a tropical climate, characterized by heavy rainfall, high temperatures, high humidity but low winds. It is also located in Southeast Asia, with a huge archipelago with total land and sea area reaching to about 5 million km2, comprised of more than 13,667 islands and total population of 259,940,857 (based on population census Dec 2010). The structure of the tectonics of Indonesia are very complex, because it is a meeting point of two tectonic plates, Indo-Australia and Eurasia, creating subduction zone and the formation of many volcanoes with about 90 of them remain active. These conditions give rise to tropical geohazards as well as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, floods and forest fires. Some of them recorded as staggering world disasters such as Tambora volcanic eruption in 1815 and Krakatau eruption in 1883. In addition, in December 2004 a devasting Tsunami struck Aceh Province. Based on the Asia Pacific Disaster Report prepared by the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) and the UN Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on 26 October 2010, during 1980-2009 period in Asia Pacific, Indonesia has fourth ranked in the list of highest natural disasters about 312 cases, second ranked in the list of highest number of death approximately 191.164 people also has caused economic losses of at least US 22.5 billion. In this paper we can learn on disaster management in Indonesia with case studies in Jakarta and Yogyakarta Provinces.

Business processes are dynamic and constantly evolving. Contextual elements that had not yet been identified and represented can arise and influence the execution of each process instance in diverse manners. In this scenario, the identification of these elements is considered of great importance. This paper proposes a formalism for context associated with business processes that intends to identify the situation of an activity in order to subsidize decisions to be taken within the execution of a process. © 2012 IEEE.

A variety of network deployments in disaster recovery, fire fighting and military scenarios create networks that do not form a connected network all the time. In such scenarios, paths between a source and destination may be created over time when nodes encounter each other due to node mobility. Many routing algorithms that can route messages in such delay-tolerant networking (DTN) settings have been proposed. Currently, these protocols do not differentiate between the messages that are being routed through the network treating all messages equally. But, there are DTN scenarios, in particular in military situations, where it is critical that messages are differentiated based on their importance to the task being supported. In this paper, we propose extensions to two popular DTN routing protocols, Epidemic and PROPHET, to implement such message prioritization. We implemented the proposed extensions in ONE (Opportunistic Network Emulator) and studied the performance of these extensions. Results from our simulation analysis demonstrate that it is possible to implement message prioritization in non-deterministic delay tolerant networks and provide us with insights into configuring message prioritization in DTN. In particular, the importance of selecting optimal queue lengths at each node to mitigate congestion in such networks. © 2012 IEEE.

Organizational learning is an area that helps companies to improve their processes significantly through the reuse of experiences. An area that may help in this way is social learning. Collaborative tools, such as social network and wiki, enable collaborative work and are important facilitators of social learning process. However, collaboration is one of the several necessary components for learning. Therefore, it is important that all acquired knowledge be organized to be reused faster, easily and efficiently. Therefore, we propose using learning objects to organize the content inserted in collaborative tools. There are some learning object metadata to describe relevant learning objects characteristics and to catalog them. As these metadata are proposed to describe educational learning objects, they do not contemplate organizational characteristics, important for knowledge-intensive organizations. Moreover, the metadata are formally modeled through the XML-Schema language, which has a lack of expressiveness. Thus, trying to solve these limitations, the paper presents an ontology for organizational learning object based on IEEE LOM standard. The paper describes the ontology building process, following all the activities proposed in Methontology. Some experiments to evaluate the ontology are also presented.
