This article describes a dynamic-fuzzy simulation model and proposes an extension to it. The model represents a person's physiological capacity throughout life and simulates the occurrence of risk events from birth until death, including a representation of the process of recovering health after it has been impacted by a risk event. The expanded model incorporates cardiovascular risk factors in order to reproduce curves plotted from real mortality data from a specific population whose cause of death was cardiovascular diseases. By adjusting the parameters, it proved possible to reproduce mortality curves from populations with specific characteristics such as hypertension, obesity and physical activity levels. A simulation model that is capable of focusing on specific populations makes it possible to test alternative intervention designed to reduce the mortality caused by specific diseases, thereby contributing to improved quality-of-life for populations and to cost savings for both public and private health care systems.

Componentization is a Software Engineering (SE) strategy successfull in the development of new projects. Mainstream games use components that handle a set of functions elevant to a common aspect of a genre (e.g. real time strategy, first person shooter). However, Artificial Intelligence (AI) components, in spite of their great game play weight in current games, few has been researched and published about. This scenario gets worse when it comes to specific components for SE simulation games. This paper shows the results of the development of an AI component called Intelligent Behavior Simulation Module for Software Process Elements (MSCI-ep) for software process simulators. MSCI-ep objectives are to support and encourage development of this genre of educational games.

This paper consists in a novel transport protocol description for Delay-Tolerant Networks and Disruption Tolerant Networks (both DTN). This protocol was designed to offer a better information delivery rate in DTNs scenarios. Fountain codes techniques are used to achieve our needs. The performance results were tested taking into account the hosts buffer size, the TTL (Time To Live) of the messages and the amount of redundant information generated into the network. A better delivery rate and performance were achieved using the proposed protocol.

Dynamism of day-to-day activities in organizations is inextricably linked and there is a variety of information, insight and reasoning being processed between people and systems, in carrying out a business process. We argue that flexibility in processes could be managed in real time, using context information collected in the work environment. This paper proposes a context management architecture approach that aims to improve and automate dynamic process adaptation. We explain how process adaptation may occur in real time and discuss a scenario for this proposal.

They usually invest much in hiring expert consultants to do such job. However, they still find no guidelines to help them estimate how much a process modeling project will cost or how long this will take. We propose an approach to estimate the effort required to conduct a BPM project and discuss results obtained from over 50 projects in a large Brazilian company.

Complexity and dynamism of day-to-day activities in organizations are inextricably linked, one impacting the other, increasing the challenges for constant adaptation of the way to organize work to address emerging demands. In this scenario, there are a variety of information, insight and reasoning being processed between people and systems, during process execution. We argue that process variations could be decided in real time, using context information collected. This paper presents a proposal for a business process line cycle, with a set of activities encapsulated in the form of components as central artefact. Cluster analysis is used in several research areas to classify data sets in groups by their similar characteristics. Metaheuristic-based techniques, such as Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), have been applied in order to increase the clustering algorithm performance. GA and ACO-based clustering algorithms are capable of efficiently and automatically forming natural groups from a pre-defined number of clusters. This paper presents a GA and an ACO algorithm to the clustering problem. Both algorithms were refined using local search in order to improve the clustering accuracy. The results are compared on numeric UCI databases.
