Stroke is a neurological syndrome that may cause severe cognitive and motor impairments for survival. Alternative rehabilitation techniques have been developed to recover lower-limb movements and gait of post-stroke patients, such as Motor Imagery (MI)-based Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs), Virtual Reality (VR), and robotic devices. Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive technique to stimulate the brain and modulate cortical excitability. This study aims to analyze the short-term effects of tDCS compared to sham stimulation before a lower-limb MI-BCI pedaling training (through a robotic monocycle) task in a patient with subacute stroke. We studied a post-stroke patient with 2 months of ischemic stroke and right hemiparesis who was submitted to the following tasks: active pedaling, sham tDCS and MI-BCI, and tDCS and MI-BCI. Develop new games without having to start from scratch has been made possible by using game engines, since they offer a number of specialized components and optimized functions which are common in games. However, one realizes that process simulation games have not taken advantage of these technologies. This paper aims to demonstrate the results of the development of a software process simulation component called Software Process Simulator Machine (SPSM), which focuses on help and motivate software process educational game development through the addressing of main generic requirements for process simulation software.

Research on wheeled soccer robots has been carried out by several researchers. This is due to the existence of national and international competitions. Previous research was to create a ball position transformation system with a modified method of neural network architecture. This research was developed by building an intelligent transformation system with the Tensorflow library. This transformation system aims to be able to directly measure the distance of objects in real terms without first changing the environmental image from an omni field to a flat plane with conventional camera calibration techniques. This process can replace manual calibration with a variety of field size changes The system can transform with mean error 0.0000026 on epoch 10000 using 'conda-tensorflowneural network' libraries. It can transform the position of the ball from the omni space to the cartesian space. This system was implemented on wheeled soccer robot as keeper. © 2021 IEEE.

In this article, the applicability of an UHF circular printed monopole antenna with slotted ground plane was evaluated in order to detect partial discharges in power transformers. To verify the applicability of the antenna, two measurement batteries were performed: reflection coefficient (bandwidth) and gain in an anechoic chamber, to avoid external interference;and PD sensitivity tests from the comparison with the conventional method of IEC 60270, using for this purpose an oil cell with immersed flat-tip electrodes. These analyzes were performed for the design of an antenna with optimized performance. The obtained values for the antenna's bandwidth, size, gain and PD detection sensitivity make it possible to classify the antenna as efficient in detecting partial discharges in power transformers. © 2020 EurAAP.

Eye contact is one of the main human skills, and a prerequisite of verbal language. However, children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often have an important deficit in this skill, compromising their entire cognitive and social development. This work shows the development of two Serious Games (SGs), based on the concept of Child-Robot Interaction (CRI), for the exercise and improvement of eye contact and visual attention, as well as concepts such as imitation and emotion recognition. For face detection and eye movement monitoring, an open source development framework of machine learning named MediaPipe was used. Tests with children with ASD will be conducted, and it is expected these SGs have a positive impact regarding the improvement of both eye contact and visual attention for these children. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The prolonged waiting time at supermarket checkout lines poses a significant challenge to the shopping experience, impacting customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. This paper presents a prototype that addresses this issue by utilizing computer vision and deep learning. The model, incorporating convolutional neural networks such as YOLO v4 tiny and YOLO v5 small, along with tools like OpenCV and Roboflow for dataset management, achieves a remarkable 98% mean average precision for two-class detection. It efficiently detects, classifies, tracks, and counts items on a mobile supermarket conveyor belt. Additionally, we introduce a versatile framework designed for seamless integration into real-world applications. It comprises a customizable monitoring application and simulator that facilitates synthetic image data generation. Managing diverse items in a supermarket presents a major challenge for data gathering, labeling, and training. In that sense, the importance of customizable monitoring and simulation tools is highlighted, emphasizing their practical role. Our findings demonstrate the feasibility of maintaining a minimal 0% to 2.85% precision tradeoff while using half of the data as synthetic for two-class detection, indicating potential practicality in supermarkets with proper scaling. In summary, this study brings tangible benefits to both customers and retailers, offering a potential to streamline, speed up, and cut costs in the supermarket checkout process. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, the performance of a shunt active power filter is discussed using the strategies of direct power control based on the hysteresis method and model predictive control. This paper's objective is to evaluate the reduction of harmonic components that would be injected into the electrical grid by a non-linear load, power semiconductor losses, average switching frequency and root mean square error for variables of control and your references. The comparison uses the same system model and parameters for both strategies. Simulation and experimental results are discussed. © 2023 IEEE.

Solar Power Plants are strongly influenced by the intensity of solar radiation received by the system. For the availability of sustainable use of electrical energy from solar power, hybridization is needed with Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) sources if Black Out occurs, the combination of the two electrical energy sources is known as the Hybrid Generator. Power plant hybridization is combining two or more power plants with different energy sources, to obtain synergies that provide economic and technical benefits (reliability of the supply system). Hybrid plants will have maximum use if accompanied by load control. Load control aims to efficiently regulate the use of electrical energy so that the generated electrical energy is balanced with the use of the load released so that the Hybrid Generator will not occur Black Out. Based on tests that have been carried out the intensity of sunlight affects the power produced by solar cells. The highest sunlight intensity when testing is during the day at 567 Lux with a voltage value of 21.22 V and current of 0.30 A, while the lowest sunlight intensity is at 17.00 with the intensity of sunlight 56 Lux with a voltage value of 5.5 V and current 0.15 A. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The autonomy of a battery applied in a system depends on the accurate estimation of its State of Charge (SoC). This paper presents real-time SoC tracking using an ESP32 module, which reads current and voltage sensors and processes an algorithm based on the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) to estimate the SoC. The data applied to the EKF is based on an equivalent circuit model and obtained from tests conducted on a designed electronic load. The SoC estimation results obtained with LTO-66160H-2.3V40Ah batteries are consistent with expectations using EKF tracking. © 2023 IEEE.

The inclusion of people with disabilities and older people in society has made significant progress through the continued development of Assistive Technologies, standards, policies and guidelines combined with the use of Information and Communication Technologies. In this context, the emerging Internet of Things has a lot of tools to offer in order to promove and expand the use of assistive technologies. Medical and Assistive Technology IoT systems will play a fundamental role in health monitoring and rehabilitation, however these systems need to ensure privacy, reliable, secure and able to handle with big amount of data. This paper proposes the integration between an activity monitoring system and our IoT architecture for working with Assistive Technology applications. For the operation of the architecture infrastructure, some middleware platforms and frameworks are used to abstract the specificities of heterogeneous devices for applications and users, as well as to promote interoperability between them.
