The integration of technology into the healthcare system is emerging as a tool to support professionals in the treatment of Heart Failure (HF), and is based on an analysis of the scientific and technological progress of the Internet of Things, applied as an innovative perspective in Health 4.0. This article presents a study that proposes to develop an innovative prototype Left Ventricular Assist Device (artificial heart). The main focus is on advanced sensing, connectivity via mobile network and remote supervision support, aimed at the operation and diagnosis of patients affected by HF. The project incorporates advanced data collection, processing, and analysis tools using Big Data and Data Analytics concepts. The motivation for this work is the search for technological innovation as support for medical science and the contribution to the Unified Health System. The prototype includes a microcontroller, a heartbeat sensor, an accelerometer sensor to collect movement, acceleration and fall detection data, a mobile network module to transmit the data and create an electronic medical record. This article highlights the initial phase, which includes preliminary results such as configuring the module and components, collecting data using heartbeat and movement sensors, storing the data in MongoDB and visualizing it in Jupyter Notebook.

This paper proposes a database of handwritten Jawi (DHJ) for conducting the research in this area. Previously, a printed Jawi dataset has been proposed and this handwritten dataset is aim to extend the dataset collection in Jawi database. The DHJ database contains handwritten Jawi character, handwritten Jawi word, and handwritten Jawi sentence. This dataset was recorded from ten writers with different age, gender, and educational background. The participants were asked to fill a form, which had three parts: character part, word part, and sentence part. The DHJ was stored in jpeg digital image format and each of image has three different sizes. Totally, we have 3,810 handwritten Jawi characters, 300 handwritten Jawi words, and 40 handwritten Jawi sentences.

Iris matching is widely used in various biometric systems, such as for person identification and verification. Cross-spectral iris matching is defined as the matching between two iris images acquired in different electromagnetic spectra. One of the problems in cross-spectral iris matching is the modality gap between the images. Therefore, feature descriptors that are invariant to illumination and generate higher accuracy are required. This paper proposes an improved cross-spectral iris matching framework using Multi-Scale Weberface (MSW). In the proposed method, MSW is integrated with the Gabor Local Binary Pattern (GLBP), and it is abbreviated as MGLBP. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed framework outperforms the previous method with higher accuracy. By using MGLBP, the recognition rate increases by 40% and 9% compared with the LBP and GLBP, respectively.

This paper describes a novel battery management system to accomplish all of the necessary functions to ensure the safe, reliable operation of lithium ion batteries. An interface circuit monitors each battery voltage and temperature. It includes a trickle charger that achieves cell balancing by active instead of passive means. A series loaded resonant converter with isolation, also known as an LLC converter, is connected to each one of the battery cells so that they can be balanced, thus increasing the lifetime and utilization of the battery stack. In this paper the battery equalizer control system is presented as well as experimental measurements on a six cell string. © 2014 IEEE.

This work presents the design of a tri-bandpass filter based on the side-coupled square ring structure. The modeling is conceived from the classic approach of coupled transmission lines. The geometry consists of a square structure of electrical length equal to twice the wavelength of the main operating frequency, and the laterally coupled lines through which the power supply occurs. Expressions for the admittance and transformation matrix were obtained based on the impedances and admittances that model the geometry. Analyzis were performed from EM simulations. A prototype was built to validate the modeling and adjusted for operation at 0.78, 1.5 and 2.30 GHz. All results are discussed and commented, and the comparisons between simulated and measured results are coherent and in agreement, thus proving the effectiveness of the applied method. © 2020 SBMO/SBMag.

In order to reduce Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottle plastic waste, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) provided reverse osmosis drinking water in some buildings. Water monitoring is needed to keep the water quality. Therefore, a water monitoring system based on Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), pH, and water flow was proposed. Since the UB buildings have good internet connection (WiFi), Internet of Things (IoT) was employed to the system to support real time monitoring. So, data of TDS, pH, and water flow can be periodically sent to cloud and displayed to a specific website. The system worked very well and the data can be summarized and used by operator as indicators of performance of the reverse osmosis machine. When water quality and performance decrease, operator must check filters membrane or water pump for further maintenance to support long life use. Although the sensors have been calibrated properly, some measurement errors occur. The measurement error percentages of TDS and pH are 0.62% and 0.94%, respectively. © 2022 IEEE.

The Filter Bank Multi Carrier (FBMC) has been studied as replacement for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) on the physical layer of the telecommunication systems. FBMC presents improvements on the spectrum utilization, bit rate and robustness to interference, without the need for inclusion of a Cyclic Prefix (CP). Since the orthogonality among symbols on FBMC is accomplished by means of using Offset QAM (OQAM), channel estimation becomes a challenge. This work presents a scattered pilot frame proposed for digital TV and a cubic spline interpolation combined with DFT-based iterative channel estimation method with statistical limit. The system was developed and tested on GNU Radio Companion (GRC) environment and its performance was analyzed on noise and multipath scenarios. The Bit Error Rate (BER) curves shows the better performance of proposed model.

This work presents a Filter Bank Multi Carrier (FBMC) based digital TV frame model combined to novel 3-tap Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and statistical Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) channel estimation techniques. This arrangement improves the spectral efficiency and robustness of the transmission of data by avoiding the use of Cyclic Prefix (CP). The results show that pilot aided FBMC frame can be employed in digital TV applications. The Bit Error Rate (BER) curves demonstrate that ANN and DFT with statistical threshold 3-tap methods enhance the performance in multipath scenarios in comparison to traditional techniques.

This paper presents a proposal of a computer vision tool based on Open CV that allows the pre-visual identification of non-uniform constellation levels, channel coding, and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) estimation on ATSC. Nowadays, the challenge of digital television systems is to transmit high quality videos employing the new technologies, such as Ultra High Definition (UHD). Thus, the new standards as ATSC 3.0 have incorporated several modifications on their physical layers. Among them, it is possible to highlight the use of non-uniform constellations, advanced channel error coding and layer division multiplexing (LDM). However, the pre-visual understanding of the received constellations has become hard since the complex symbols are not distributed evenly in the complex plane and there are different layers to be seen simultaneously. So, the techniques of computer vision have a great potential to analyze and to extract an initial information from the images related to the received constellation, to identify the modulation level, channel coding rate and SNR to each layer, without the necessity of complete demodulation.

One of the most important tasks in autonomous driving and autonomous vehicle navigation is detecting a path or trajectory that the vehicle should follow. Over the past few years, some learning-based works have stood out more than traditional computer vision techniques in detecting such lanes. In this paper we present an approach to solve the lane line detection problem in the context of visual path following by using a residual factorized convolutional neural network. Experimental results show a promising model that can detect lane lines even under severe lighting conditions and in the presence of occlusions and shadows. The path detection system was tested along with a visual path following formulation based on Nonlinear Model Predictive Control. Still, it can be used for any controller in the context of visual navigation for autonomous vehicles. Nonetheless, the proposed model architecture strikes a remarkable balance between accuracy and efficiency, making the system suitable for real-time applications.
