environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is not only about development and protecting environment, but also about public participation during all the process. It is not an exaggeration that public participation is claimed as one of the key indicators of the effectiveness of EIA. Therefore, even in pandemic conditions while development still must go on at the same time, public participation can be avoided in the EIA process. In a wide range of international arrangements and national regulation, there are several guidance in accommodating public participation such as the Aarhus Convention 1998 and Indonesian national regulation. This article compares and analyses those legal procedures in mitigating unexpected conditions. The result shows that both of them are still feasible to be applied even in abnormal circumstances. Some barriers are identified especially related to implementing advanced technology. Therefore, how these aspirations are conveyed and accepted must be done in various alternative ways. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2021.

Policy implementation is one of the main elements of public policy to ensure that policy is successful in resolving all concerns and promoting the efforts made by the organization as a policy implementer. The implementation of public policies can be influenced by several factors, such as limited budget and human resources, lack of socialization, low commitment of authorized officials, including supervision and sanctions that have not been implemented properly. There are many models of public policy implementation, but policy implementation is still ineffective, especially in environmental policies. Some studies have been performed on the development of a policy implementation model with a range of methods and principles, three of them are policy implementation models developed by Van Horn-Van Meter;Grindle;Mazmanian and Sabatier. Those three methods are used respectively according to the existing conditions with different levels of achievement. The objective of this article is to assess the best model of policy implementation related to Acid Mine Drainage management policy of coal mining operations in Indonesia through a comparative study review. The results of the analysis show that the model developed by Mazmanian Sabatier is the most appropriate model to implement the policy of Acid Mine Drainage in Indonesia. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2021.

The forest management in Indonesia is currently using a new paradigm, one of which is the involvement of local communities. This paradigm applied throughout Indonesia, especially in state forest areas and customary forests. National parks are part of state forests where management involves the community. One of the management methods used is community-based ecotourism which has widely implemented to communities around the national park. This approach used to improve people livelihoods and to minimize forest encroachment, illegal logging, and illegal hunting. In this relation, this article aims to provide a description of the Indonesian research literature on ecotourism development program regarding forest management in the community around national park areas. It found that ecotourism plays a role in the forest management by improving forest management and maintaining biodiversity, including protection of endangered species and their habitats. Meanwhile, ecotourism also empowering local communities, providing direct and indirect economic benefits. Nevertheless, comprehensive management planning is needed to minimize the ecotourism impacts, such as wildlife behavior and morphological change. The previous studies give understanding about ecotourism development in national parks that can be useful to improve national park management programs. However, further studies are still needed to support sustainable national park management. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2021.

Photovoltaic (PV) energy production is a promising and mature technology for producing renewable energy. By contrast, solar panel disposals can generate problems for waste management, given that the amount of PV solar energy e-waste is more significant than other types of e-waste, given that this waste contains abundant metals and toxic materials, and given that this energy is being increasingly used. Local solutions need to be discussed and evaluated so that the PV industry can provide sustainable renewable energy. This paper discusses the environmental impacts of PV solar energy and PV panel recycling in Brazil. More efficient technological solutions and process developments will be needed to adequately treat problems arising at the end of the useful life cycle of PV systems. However, more than these technological solutions and process developments are required. Political mechanisms and regulatory structures will also need to be developed and implemented at the end of the life cycle stage to prepare, encourage, and develop appropriate industrial waste treatment applications. The advent of sector agreements for electrical and electronic equipment in Brazil has partially dealt with these waste problems. Sector agreements list equipment and devices that must have defined reverse logistics systems. © 2023 The Authors

In face of the necessity of more sustainable wastewater management, technologies that approach treatment plants to the circular economy concept, such as nature-based solutions (NBSs) gained popularity in the last decades. In this sense, the objective of this study was to develop a wastewater integrated treatment system combining 4 NBSs: microalgae tank, floating treatment wetland (FTW), a vertical flow (VFCW) followed by a horizontal flow constructed wetland (HFCW). The treatment units were constructed using 4 fiberglass tanks of 100 L each, daily fed with 25 L secondary effluent generated in a laboratory analysis building. In addition, anaerobic digestion experiments were carried out using different mixtures of the harvested biomass to investigate the potential production of biogas and methane. The first treatment stage consisted in a algae cultivation tank with a submerged pump which for recirculation. The second stage consisted of a FTW with a buoyant supporting Canna generalis and Cyperus papyrus Nanus plants, and Lemna sp. in the surroundings. Both VFCW and HFCW were vegetated with four different plant species. Regarding treatment performance the removal efficiencies of the integrated system were 96.27 %, 96.41 %, 98.08 %, 95.80 % and 89.30 % for BOD₅, COD, N-NH₃/NH₄, Total P and Turbidity, respectively. Concerning the anaerobic digestion, the best results were obtained using samples of the FTW plants, which produced 58.71 ± 2.19 and 28.73 ± 3.36 L/*** for biogas and methane yield, respectively. Although the proposed treatment presented promising results regarding the treatment and energy recovery from wastewater, longer monitoring with larger units should be further investigated to better evaluate the real-scale application. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Landslides are among the natural disasters that most affect the population in Brazil and in the world, as they are responsible for numerous human, economic, social and environmental losses. High-resolution aerial and satellite imagery, that contribute to identify this type of event are valuable sources of information, even if they are not the only ones. Machine learning (ML) techniques are often adopted to identify relevant patterns, as high performance computing and data visualization are widely and successfully applied to natural disaster-related data, particularly for landslides. The greater the volume of data processed during machine learning, the better the accuracy of the results obtained. Among other reasons, Big Data (BD) has stood out for its ability to integrate and generate a large volume of data from different sources and in different formats. The use of BD concepts and techniques has become common in several areas of knowledge, in particular for the storage and analysis of data related to natural accidents and, thus, helping to improve decision making as well as prevention of disasters. With the emergence of the BD, it came the challenge of aligning decision-making processes, so that there is no shortage of information or useless data for decision makers. In the case of Brazil and considering, especially, applications to landslide data, there is a lack of articles dealing with the subject. The aim of this study is to investigate the main features used on machine learning techniques, to map the literature, thus pointing out new routes and opportunities in the field. In the systematic review, the eligibility criteria adopted are studies published in the last 4 years (from January 2015 to December 2019), in English, at national and international levels, including publications in scientific events and relevant journals, through databases such as Scopus and Web of Science. This study evaluates the on use of crushed rocks(remineralizers)to increase soil fertility levels and which contributed to increase agricultural productivity,recovery of degraded areas,decontamination of water,and carbon *** use of these geological materials is part of the assumptions of rock technology and,indirectly,facilitates the achievement of sustainable development goals related to soil management,climate change,and the preservation of water *** over the past 50 years on silicate rocks focused on soil fertility management and agricultural *** recently,the combined use with microorganisms and organic correctives have shown positive results to mitigate soil degradation;to expand carbon sequestration and storage;and to contribute to the adsorption of contaminants from water and *** this article we show results obtained in several countries and we show that this technology can contribute to the sustainability of agriculture,as well as to reverse global *** mineral nutrients are released more slowly from these types of inputs,they remain in the soil for a longer time,stimulating the soil *** addition,they are a technology to soluble synthetic fertilizers replace,since the few nutrients derived from such inputs not consumed by plants are lost by leaching,contaminating groundwater and water *** addition,conventional methods rely heavily on chemical pesticides which cause damage to soil’s microfauna(responsible for the decomposition of organic matter and nutrient cycling)and the loss of organic carbon(in the form of dioxide),which is quickly dispersed in the *** rock powders are applied in natura,have long-lasting residual effects and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Effects of Audible Sound for Enhancing the Growth Rate of Microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis in Vegetative Stage

Physico-stimulant like audible sound is one of the new promising methods for enhancing microalgae growth rate. Here, microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis was cultivated with the addition of audible sound with titles “Blues for Elle” and “Far and Wide.” The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of audible sound to the growth and productivity of microalgae. The experiment has been conducted by exposing the audible sound for 8 h in 22 days to microalgae cultivation. The result showed that microalgae H. pluvialis treated by the music “Blues for Elle” shows the highest growth rate (0.03 per day), and 58% higher than the one without audible sound. The average number of cells in stationary phase is 0.76 × 10⁴ cells/mL culture and the productivity is 3.467 × 10² cells/mL/day. The pH of microalgae medium slightly decreases because of proton production during photosynthesis process. The kinetic rate constant (k_app) is 0.078 per day, reaction half-life (t_1/2) is 8.89 days, and catalytic surface (K_surf) is 1.66 × 10⁻⁵/day/cm². In conclusion, this audible sound is very useful to stimulate microalgae growth rate, especially H. pluvialis. © 2017 Institut Pertanian Bogor
