The increase in the use of renewable sources of electric energy, with low environmental impact, has provided advances in the most diverse areas, mainly in the field of Distributed Generation (DG) that constitutes an alternative generation model to the classic centralized electricity supply system. Among the technologies that implement this model, the Distributed Photovoltaic Generation stands out to have an easy installation process, a constant cost reduction of photovoltaic panels, and to allow bigger competitiveness, when compared to other sources. However, the excessive use of this technology can cause damage to distribution networks, impacting, for example, the electric current levels of the system. This paper shows an evaluation of current variability in a distribution network based on the IEEE 13 Node Test Feeder system through a simplified model of photovoltaic generators. The demand for the system loads and the power levels provided by the generators were varied according to load curve data and specific weather conditions. The results found show that the DG can directly impact on the levels of electric current of the feeder, where maximum variations of 94.08% and 90.66% were obtained for each of the two cities analyzed. © 2021 IEEE.

Smart mobility is a crucial aspect of smart cities, and its performance can be further improved by exploiting Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication available on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles. V2X communication has the potential to improve traffic in smart cities drastically, but it plays a crucial role in terms of safety and the environment. The V2X communication can be completely impaired due to cyberattacks, including radio jamming, where the electromagnetic spectrum is interfered or blocked. In this paper, we propose three frameworks to deal with radio jamming in V2X applications. First, we present a batch framework, then a recursive framework, and finally, a subspace tracking framework. We validate the proposed frameworks considering the left turn assist driving use case, and we compare their performances.

This work proposes a model reference adaptive control based on recursive neural networks. This secondary-level controller corrects the deviations on the voltage and frequency setpoints of a simple primary control in an isolated microgrid (MG) with multiple distributed generators (DGs). The controller has two nonlinear autoregressive with external input neural networks to emulate the microgrid and guide the whole system according to an appropriate reference model. The networks are trained with synthetic data from a simulation MG and the order of the networks are obtained with a deterministic method. The method is tested with a three-units MG in a Matlab simulation under different working conditions. Results show the proper performance of the proposed controllers in comparison to a PI strategy. © 2024, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). Hydrogels is a unique material that affordable to apply as a membranes layer. In tropical country, such as Indonesia there is easily found water hyacinth (a weed plant) which is potentially used for hydrogels materials fabrication due to high cellulose content. Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) from water hyacinth cellulose and banana peels pectin are used to produce hydrogel for ultrafiltration membrane. The aims of this study are to characterize the functionalization of CMC-pectin membrane with different ratio using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and to determines the morphology of its membranes structure. The CMC was synthesized from water hyacinth stems through carboxymethylation. The functionalization group of multiple CMC-pectin membrane ratio is domination with carboxyl group (COO-), carbonyl stretching and carbon group. Meanwhile, CMC-pectin 70:30 wt% ratio displays not smooth structure. There is a water hyacinth stems extracted cellulose fibre on the surface of hydrogel CMC:pectin membrane. In other hand, the addition of pectin in all ratio variation exhibit increasing contact angle number from 63.98° to 68.16° (0-30 wt% pectin). The existence of pectin from banana peels on hydrogel membranes contributes to increase hydrophobicity of hydrogel-membrane, in spite of the contact angle value is below than 90°. 2023 The Authors. In the digital age, managing urban heritage sites presents unique challenges that necessitate the integration of smart technologies. This review assesses the integration and impact of smart city initiatives on sustainable environmental management in urban heritage sites. Through a comprehensive literature review of 84 papers from ScienceDirect and Scopus, this study categorizes the findings into three themes: Smart City Initiative Analysis, Heritage Site Considerations, and Smart Technology Integration Models. The review highlights the significant contributions of smart technologies, such as digital analysis, 3D documentation, and Information and communication technology, in enhancing sustainability and preserving cultural values. Case studies from Amsterdam, Barcelona, Seville, and Uzbek illustrate these initiatives’ practical applications and outcomes. The paper underscores the need for robust policies, public awareness, and multidisciplinary collaboration to maximize the benefits of smart city initiatives. Finally, the study identifies gaps in current research and suggests further research directions for integrating smart technologies into urban heritage site management.

The present work aims at the application of different optimization strategies in the electromagnetic analysis of the Variable Reluctance Motor (VRM) through Finite Element (FE) simulation. Two case studies are investigated: the first one aims to optimize the geometry and electrical characteristics of windings of a single-phase VRM 6/6, minimizing copper losses;the second aims to optimize a restricted set of geometric parameters of a 4- phase VRM 8/6, maximizing the flux linkage in the phase coils per unit volume of magnetic core. In this way, by using the Finite Element Method (FEM), the results from the Differential Evolution (DE) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms will be compared and highlighted. Then, the magnetic flux densities of the motors are analyzed before and after the optimization. The results obtained show good efficiency of the algorithms, since the objective functions were satisfied with respect to the reference models. © 2022 Sociedade Brasileira de Microondas e Optoeletronica (SBMO). The energy control of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) often leads to an unbalanced state between the battery storage system, energy extraction through photovoltaic systems energy, and energy utilization in the WSN. These disparities result in suboptimal wireless sensor network performance. The reliance on batteries is a major factor contributing to this problem. The Q-Learning Energy Management System (Q-EMS) is designed to address these challenges and improve energy management strategies. The Q-EMS algorithm used a learning process resulting in optimal actions for sensor nodes in different situations. The rewards or punishments nodes receive determine their decisions, which are determined by the Q-EMS algorithm. The Q-learning model approach is aimed at reducing energy consumption and supply in WSNs. Energy supply is categorized into battery-based, transfer-based, and harvesting, while energy consumption can be classified into task-cycle, mobility-based, and data-driven. The development of the Q Learning algorithm model has three scenarios: determining energy needs for WSN, effective energy harvesting strategy, and effective energy transfer. As a result, effective energy demand, harvesting and transfer using the Q-learning algorithm are balanced. However, it needs to be studied in more depth using real data in the field. In future research, I will use real data and optimize the use of the Q-Learning algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

Tropical mountain peatlands in Brazil’s Southern Espinhaço Range are vital ecosystems,acting as carbon reservoirs,hydrological buffers,and biodiversity hotspots while sustaining traditional livelihoods and preserving paleoenvironmental *** their importance,peatlands outside protected areas face degradation by grazing and fires,threatening their ability to regulate ecosystem processes sensitive to temperature,such as greenhouse gas emissions,water cycling,biological activity,and organic matter *** 2016,we have monitored peat temperatures in two contrasting peatlands–one preserved(within a protected area)and one disturbed(outside the protected area)–to understand how anthropogenic disturbances and climate variability impact these fragile *** patterns dominated temperature variation,accounting for 60% of air and 81%–92% of peatland temperature ***,average temperatures and amplitudes differed between peatlands and *** variability revealed stronger trends in the disturbed peatland,where a 1℃ increase in air temperature caused the trend to increase 0.70℃–0.87℃ on average at depths of 0.85 m–0.92 *** contrast,the preserved peatland showed smaller increases(0.20℃–0.24℃)at comparable depths(1.06 m–1.24 m),suggesting a greater *** variation in the monitored peatlands was majorly driven by seasonal patterns,as revealed by time series decomposition and sinewave *** temperature and amplitude varied between the two peatlands and among sampling sites,reflecting differences in environmental conditions and measurement *** variability also exhibited distinct effects between peatlands and monitoring *** time series trend component showed more pronounced fluctuations at shallower depths and in the disturbed *** every 1℃ increase in the trend component of the air temperature,the trend component of the peatland time series increased by 0.70℃ and 0.87℃on averag

Coronary artery stenosis is characterized by the obstruction or narrowing of coronary arteries, impairing blood flow to the cardiac muscle. Cardiovascular diseases rank among the leading global causes of death. Understanding the mechanisms, risk factors, and impacts of coronary artery stenosis (CAD) is essential for developing effective strategies for prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment, aiming to enhance cardiovascular health and reduce adverse consequences associated with this condition. Previous studies explore the potential of acoustic devices in non-invasive CAD detection through the analysis of cardiac sounds. A theoretical model utilized a cardiac microphone and signal processing to generate sounds in partially obstructed coronary arteries. Emphasizing the model’s sensitivity to geometric and dynamic parameters, this article integrates Bond Graph (BG) models into the analog sound circuit, aiming to develop a dynamic representation of biological processes in complex systems like coronary arteries. This research seeks to construct a comprehensive mathematical model using a state-space approach to enhance understanding, diagnostics, and interventions in cardiovascular conditions. The utilization of BG demonstrated notable similarity to the pathology of the disease, providing an accurate representation of its effects. The model’s sensitivity to geometric and dynamic parameters allowed an in-depth understanding of the specific physiological characteristics of the disease, highlighting its ability to reproduce patterns observed in patients with CAD.

This paper presents a proposal of a computer vision tool based on Open CV that allows the pre-visual identification of non-uniform constellation levels, channel coding, and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) estimation on ATSC. Nowadays, the challenge of digital television systems is to transmit high quality videos employing the new technologies, such as Ultra High Definition (UHD). Thus, the new standards as ATSC 3.0 have incorporated several modifications on their physical layers. Among them, it is possible to highlight the use of non-uniform constellations, advanced channel error coding and layer division multiplexing (LDM). However, the pre-visual understanding of the received constellations has become hard since the complex symbols are not distributed evenly in the complex plane and there are different layers to be seen simultaneously. So, the techniques of computer vision have a great potential to analyze and to extract an initial information from the images related to the received constellation, to identify the modulation level, channel coding rate and SNR to each layer, without the necessity of complete demodulation.
