The Government of the Republic of Indonesia states that the thermal energy for hot-mixed asphalt production shall be supplied by the direct combustion of fossil fuels in the form of diesel oil,natural gas,or fuel gas from coal gasification which may generate GHG *** are able to substitute the fossil fuels through gasification *** converts the biomass using limited air into gaseous fuel containing mainly CO and H_(2) that are subsequently combusted to produce heat,carbon dioxide,and *** is obvious that the CO_(2) is then absorbed by the plants for photosynthesis,main-taining a balanced closed *** study examines the level of global warming potential of this system for supplying heat based on the openLCA v1.9 *** analysis used a gate-to-gate approach to evaluate scenarios of shell gasification to produce 1 metric tonne of hot-mixed *** scope covers raw material supply and transportation,palm kernel shell gasification,and *** evaluation concludes that gasification could potentially reduce CO_(2) *** impact analysis and interpretation of the results using the openLCA database of Traci 2.1 recommend that greater CO_(2) emis-sion reduction is possible using palm kernel shell gasification,not only for supplying heat but also for electricity generation to operate all electrical equipments.

The present work focuses on a case study applying a maintenance management system model based on the degree of maturity in a thermoplastic industry that operates in the Industrial Pole of Manaus, in the state of Amazonas (Brazil). The system must support the decisions of the organization and promote progress in the company's continuous improvement system. The study was based on the answers to a questionnaire submitted to the maintenance, production and process engineering sectors. Internal perception was compared with external perception, in order to perform an analysis of the field of view of the three sectors on the current position of the maintenance sector in relation to the maturity model used for this analysis. From the application of the model, it was possible to develop a strategic action plan, based on lean practices, so that the maintenance areas advance towards the higher levels of the maturity scale, aiming to reach and maintain performance levels recognized as excellence.

This study presents an innovative approach integrating ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) with ionic gelation encapsulation and freeze-drying to optimize the recovery and delivery of bioactive compounds from black mulberry leaves. UAE, under optimized conditions (60 °C, 2.5 min, 20% amplitude), increased the concentration of chlorogenic acid by 2.47 times compared to conventional methods (2.38 ± 0.11 g/100 g), producing extracts with high phenolic content (168.17 mg GAE/g) and strong antioxidant activity (1076.46 µMol TE/g, DPPH). The encapsulation process achieved 73.88% efficiency, retaining 72-87% of total phenolics and antioxidant activity in DPPH, FRAP, and ABTS assays. Encapsulated compounds showed thermal stability up to 200 °C, confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis, and high bioaccessibility (84.61 ± 0.89%) in *in vitro* digestion tests. This approach highlights the synergy between sustainable extraction and encapsulation, with sodium alginate offering an ecologically friendly method to protect bioactives and ensure controlled release. © 2025, The Authors. This study aims to determine the mechanics competence and workshop management needs of the competencies in the vocational education engineering curriculum and the motorcycle business according to the automotive motorcycle industry. Research subjects were eight motorcycle automotive companies in the field of production and services. The data of the study were collected by using a questionnaire survey and analyzed by quantitative descriptive statistics with percentages. The results of the study showed that the needed competencies according to the Automotive Motorcycle Industry were mechanics competence and workshop management competence. The vocational education curriculum produced 39 mechanics competencies and 18 workshop management competencies. There were 37 basic competencies in mechanics competence in the very needed category and 2 basic competencies in the sufficiently needed category. Workshop management competencies found 18 basic competencies that were all needed by the industry. Competency from the mechanics field and workshop management had competencies in the very needed category relatively. In total there were 15 competencies that not exist yet in the curriculum which taught in vocational education. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The greatest diversity of aromas of coffee is formed during roasting in complex reactions such as Maillard. In order to find chemical indices of quality for the coffees, related to the Maillard reaction, the content of soluble proteins and reducing sugars (precursors of reaction) of the extracts of green beans and the respective roasted beans of 50 different coffees were evaluated. The results were related to the quality scores. For sugars, the roasted bean increase content in all samples, consequence of the breakdown of sucrose and other polysaccharides generating reducing sugars. To protein, roasted beans of coffee with quality beverage, there were a decrease in soluble proteins when comparing green beans, but in coffee of down quality, there were increase of protein in beverage. Our findings showed that the soluble protein content of the roasted beans and protein degradation during roasting significantly correlated with the quality scores of the coffees. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

The Last Planner® System (LPS) of Production Control is widely acknowledged as fit to tackle the complexity of construction projects. However, the implications of complexity in the implementation of LPS itself have not been investigated. Those implications are investigated in this paper by exploring the gap between production planning and control-as-imagined and as-done at the look-ahead level. For that purpose, a case study was conducted in the refurbishment of a department store in which the LPS was implemented. Data collection involved document analysis, participant observation at the look-ahead and short-term planning meetings, and unstructured interviews. The Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) was used for modeling variability and interactions between the managerial functions at the look-ahead planning level. Results indicated several differences between production planning and control-as-imagined and as-done, which reflect hidden activities required for the removal of constraints. These activities took time and effort from managers and therefore they can partly explain why the LPS was not strictly followed as-imagined in theory. © Prof. Luis F. Alarcón and Assoc. In-hand manipulation of a circular dynamic object by soft fingertips without angle measurement

A multi-fingered robotic hand with curved fingertips enables contact re-positioning without reattaching at the expense of fingertip rolling. This rolling stands for a characteristic that facilitates dexterous manipulation but results in an algebraically complex dynamic model subject to such constraints. The hemispherical shape of fingertips allows a dexterous manipulation when controlling the tangent forces, which are essential to rotate object. However, the measurement of the object angle in practice requires tactile-optical sensing. In this paper, considering robotic fingers with curved soft tips, we propose a feedback control that ensures optimal dynamical grasping of a circular rigid object. It is shown that the collaboration of the contact forces, to get a minimum pose of internal forces, and the tangential forces, to induce the conditions for assuring the grasp closure, is necessary to get a skillful manipulation. In this case, the orientation control of a circular object to the desired angle while avoiding direct measurement of the object angle is presented. Stability conditions of the system are presented in the sense of stability-in-the-manifold. Finally, representative simulations are shown and discussed.

Open Graded Friction Course (OGFC) has been used as a permeable pavement in many countries. OGFC introduces safe road conditions as a pavement material compared to normal asphalt while facilitating the lateral and vertical drainage functions. In Indonesia, one type of OGFC researched to date is porous asphalt. This mix has an advantage in terms of its drainage function, but it lacks the ability to withstand against traffic loads. This research aims to see how binder content affected the performance of porous asphalt mixtures in order to create porous asphalt pavements that met structural and functional requirements. To do so, local aggregates from the West Kalimantan region and several contents of PG-76 polymer modified bitumen were used in this study. Marshall and Cantabro Loss tests were conducted to observe the structural performance, while volumetric properties were used to evaluate the functional performance. The outcomes of this study presents the insight of the relationship between the different content of the binder and the stability, durability, and voids content of the mixture. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This research contextualizes the problem of lack of usability and situational awareness provided by conventional supervision systems (SCADA), its relationship with synoptic screens, alarm systems, and industrial accidents. A standard is introduced to lead conventional systems to the “high performance” concept. All basic knowledge of this concept is shown to demonstrate the bases of the standard. And, finally, how to apply the standard to an industrial plant supervision project.

Assessing Self-Healing in High-Strength Concrete with Superabsorbent Polymers by an Innovative Methodology

This study introduces a novel cracking methodology used in high-strength concrete (HSC) with superabsorbent polymers (SAP) to unveil its actual self-healing potential without fibre reinforcement. Although high-strength concrete allows for more creative structural designs and reduces the amount of building materials used, it often suffers from self-desiccation, which can cause cracking issues. SAP's inclusion in HSC not only addresses the autogenous shrinkage problem but also enhances concrete's self-healing capabilities. This research focuses on the dual role of SAP in mitigating autogenous shrinkage and promoting self-healing in high-strength concrete. An innovative technique was employed to induce uniform, controlled cracks under direct tension by isolating the self-healing agent's effect. The cracking process was developed using nonlinear finite element analysis. Two SAP concentrations (0.3% and 0.6%) were tested on specimens with a consistent crack width of 200 µm. These specimens underwent daily wetting-drying cycles over four months, with evaluations at 7 and 28 days post-cracking. Self-healing effectiveness was measured through mechanical recovery and microscopic examination of crack closure. Results, as expected, revealed a modest healing level but showed the actual potential of self-healing that this kind of concrete (HSC) can be counted on, offering crucial insights into self-healing concrete's practical applications and limitations. This study demonstrates SAP's versatility and highlights another advantage of SAP in high-strength concrete. This advantage, while slight, encourages the use of SAP in concrete and advances the creation of more durable construction materials. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
