Gumelem village is one of the slums in the Pemalang Regency, Central Java Province. The area has characteristics such as high population density, the narrowness of the neighborhood road, the location of houses that coincide, the narrow house, and the house is inhabited by several families and does not have a private toilet. The formation of slums is an obstacle in regional development;for this, it is necessary to arrange the area. This study uses the Participatory Research Appraisal (PRA) method to ensure the active involvement of the target group community and place the community as a subject in the activation process. The research results show that social strengthening efforts in the community and government agencies in the management of the slum areas of Gumelem are essential to realizing the success of the slum structuring program. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2020.

The production of biofuels to be used as bioenergy under combustion processes generates some gaseous emissions (CO, CO₂, NO_x, SO_x, and other pollutants), affecting living organisms and requiring careful assessments. However, obtaining such information experimentally for data evaluation is costly and time-consuming and its in situ obtaining for regional biomasses (e.g., those from Northeast Brazil (NEB) is still a major challenge. This paper reports on the application of artificial neural networks (ANNs) for the prediction of the main air pollutants (CO, CO₂, NO, and SO₂) produced during the direct biomass combustion (N₂/O₂:80/20%) with the use of ultimate analysis (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, and oxygen). 116 worldwide biomasses were used as input data, which is a relevant alternative to overcome the lack of experimental resources in NEB and obtain such information. Cross-validation was conducted with k-fold to optimize the ANNs and performance was analyzed with the use of statistical errors for accuracy assessments. The results showed an acceptable statistical performance for all architectures of ANNs, with 0.001–12.41% MAPE, 0.001–5.82 mg Nm⁻³ MAE, and 0.03–52.30 mg Nm⁻³ RMSE, highlighting the high precision of the emissions studied. On average, the differences between predicted and real values for CO, CO₂, NO, and SO₂ emissions from NEB biomasses were approximately 0.01%, 10⁻⁶%, 0.14%, and 0.05%, respectively. Pearson coefficient provided consistent results of concentration of the ultimate analysis in relation to the emissions studied and effectiveness of the test set in the developed models. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common childhood neurodevelopmental syndromes. Although clinical evaluation is considered the gold standard in diagnosing psychiatric disorders, in epidemiological studies, this evaluation is rarely used for practical and financial reasons. Instead, psychometric instruments are used to screen for the disorders. In this case, it is essential to investigate whether these instruments are suitable for measuring the proposed problem. This study aims to verify the structural validation of the Attention Problems Scale of the Teacher’s Report Form (TRF). A random sample of 445 TRF filled out by the teacher of children from São Gonçalo/RJ was selected. The confirmatory factor analysis was applied to validate some factor structures that have been raised in the literature. A second aspect analyzed was the use of structural equation models to verify the validated factorial structure’s relationship with some comorbidities. The bifactor model was the most suitable to explain the TRF child’s Attention Problems Scale’s factor structure. It presented the best-fit quality scores for confirmatory factor analysis than other tested structures. Although it presented good indicators for structural validity, some symptoms could be reassessed to have a more consistent instrument. The bifactor model as an explanatory structure in SEM was able to predict important mental health outcomes. These results are an additional validation to the bifactor model. The results suggest the validity of the TRF’s Attention Problems Scale. The instrument’s factor structure was also appropriate because it corroborated most of the association’s assumptions between subtypes of attention problems and other aspects of mental health. The existence of screening scales adapted to Brazilian Portuguese can substantially impact many children who have difficulty learning. Global energy consumption increases year after year, causing the depletion of non-renewable sources. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global demand for electrical energy is expected to increase by 3.3% in 2024. Therefore, developing new renewable sources is urgent, including new devices for energy storage and conversion, particularly those governed by electrochemical reactions. Water splitting is a clean and sustainable technology capable of facing this issue by producing oxygen and hydrogen from water and electricity. However, a problem related to this technology is the slow kinetics, making it necessary to develop new electrocatalysts with high electrochemical performance. To meet this requirement, this work deals with for the first time a high entropy oxide with rock-salt structure synthesized by a green solgel synthesis using red seaweed (Rhodophyta) as polymerizing agent. Solgel synthesis allows the large-scale production of nanomaterials with high uniformity and dispersion of the chemical elements involved. The literature, which discussed the production of these oxides, reveals that agents harmful to the environment are applied during the synthesis steps, including sodium hydroxide, acetic acid, hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide, urea, and ammonia. The composition of the high entropy oxide is (Mg0.2 Ni0.2 Co0.2 Cu0.2 Zn0.2 )O, it displays a low overpotential (336 mV vs. RHE at 10 mA cm-2 ), Tafel slope of 68 mV dec-1 , and excellent durability. The electrochemical performance of the high entropy oxide prepared in this work is superior to other electrocatalysts of the same class that were produced using transition metal-based precursors. © 2024, The Authors. The government determines forests based on the main functions of: Conservation forest, protection forest and production forest. The Petungkriyono protected forest is one of the conservation areas located in the Petungkriyono, Pekalongan City. Conservation of protected forests in Petungkriyono is very much needed considering the development of the wider city, so that the forests that were originally forest areas that functioned as green open spaces have been greatly reduced, especially in areas along the river that leads to Pekalongan City. The research method used in this study is to use descriptive research methods. The data collection technique used is the study of literature. Data analysis techniques were performed using a Likert scale calculated by discriminant analysis. Type of participation contributed by the community in the protected forest area of Petungkriyono;a) participation of ideas, b) energy, c) property, d) skill e) social participation. The form of community participation in the conservation of the Petungkriyono protected forest area;a) active participation, b) passive participation. Geographical factors that serve as a reference for the importance of conservation of the Petungkriyono protected forest are: A) habitat, b) consideration of the area, c) physical and human factors, and d) economic value. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2020.

Providing more space for non-motorized transportation will change the orientation of how people use the road. The first step of changing the orientation of city development which is car-oriented to people-oriented is how to look at the overall existing road users. Accessibility is the basic part of how an area develops, including on a university development. UI Greenmetric as a parameter of university achieving how it can be called a green campus. Not only designing a good campus, but the 'sustainable' policy also cannot be separated from creating a comfortable environment. The current condition of Diponegoro University's open green space reaches less than 60%, while Undip Tembalang already has a pedestrian lane, but is not utilized properly. The research method uses descriptive analysis of the literature articles on how important the pedestrian path that has been done at other universities. The results show that improving and changing the road design effect. Relating to the comfort of people walk affects how the pedestrian path had used. The official regulations from the university also have an impact on reducing the use of motorized vehicles. Improving accessibility for students to use public transportation and non-motorized transportation could reduce emissions in the campus's environment. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2020.

Feasibility testing of my Otoman electropneumatic gloves to improve lower arm strength of patient with stroke

Patients with stroke generally experience disability in their extremities which require a long time of rehabilitation in hospitals. The advancement of technology creates many equipments to aid the rehabilitation. The current study aimed to develop mobility aid in the form of gloves equipped with an electropneumatic device to assist post stroke therapy doing rehabilitation independently. We developed My Otoman gloves, a pneumatically driven system and conducted initial testing of the gloves among patients with stroke. My Otoman glove consists of: (1) a glove, (2) a microcontroller system (3) electro pneumatic. Initial testing was conducted among eight patients with stroke. Our study shows that the device prototype is able to help patients with post stroke condition who had lower arm mobility impairment to open their hand. Muscle strength in lower arm was increased after the use of My Otoman glove. In term of easiness using the glove, the average score of patient’s rate was 3.63 of 5 point means that the glove was easy and comfort when being used. Results from the current study will be used to guide further improvements to the device which could be applied in the clinical practice.

The search for making industrial systems smarter is a chalenge present in the Industry 4.0 scope. In this new industrial era, the automation processes operate in a more flexible and adaptable way, even if there is a system fault. However, depending on the level of complexity of the system operation, faut diagnosis and fault handling procedures can become difficult to evaluate and implement, especially when it is necessary to integrate them into the control system. Based on this challeging scenario, this article presents RAFAH, a reconfiguration architecture for fault handling in industrial systems. RAFAH is composed by three operational stages that autonomously compute flexible fault tolerant control strategies, combining formal methods for faults diagnosis in discrete event systems, supervisory control theory's extensions for modelling and designing control systems, and IEC 61499 resources for developing distributable and reconfigurable applications. The proposed methodology is validated by a case study in a fluid mixing process in which it is applied to diagnose faults and provide a new control strategy. © 2020 IEEE.

Low head hydropower has the potential to produce green energy with a minimum on the environment and is one of the best choices for decentralized power plants. Aceh is one of many regions in Indonesia with hilly topography and many river streams. Of the 66 rivers in Aceh that have potential energy sources that can be developed 98.5 percent are low head. Generally, the technique for overcoming altitude problems in low river flows is the use of low head turbines. An important aspect of head power generation techniques is the selection of turbines. The study aimed to study low head propeller turbines for the use of micro hydropower plants. By calculating the main dimensions and main components of the turbine, field experiments were carried out to determine turbine rotation and energy, as well as turbine efficiency at a flow rate of 0.06 m3/sec and a 3.5-meter head. The calculation results obtained by a specific turbine speed of 1.53, runner diameter of 0.30 meters, hub diameter of 0.06 meters, shaft diameter 0.03, runner length 1.08, triangular speed of 30 degrees with the number of blades 4 pieces. From the results of field experiments, the maximum turbine rotation speed is 1828 rpm, the turbine power is 2,530 watts with a voltage between 220 to 240 volts while the maximum efficiency is 57 percent. It can be concluded that propeller-type turbines with the low head are suitable for micro power plants, especially in remote areas. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
