Disaster are becoming more frequent around the world and more intense in urban areas. Central Java is the province with the largest number of disasters in Indonesia. Disaster create amount of disaster waste and sometime very huge, many times comparing to daily municipal waste generation. Government and local citizen sometimes are unable to handling disaster waste. Since effective implementation of disaster waste management (DWM) will lead quick and better recovery of living and avoid more environmental risk, high level regional government such as provincial should help. To make effective support, it is important that provincial government develop a model to monitor disaster waste generation in each regency and cities. This study aims to develop basic framework of regional model for disaster waste estimation and distribution in provincial level. This study used Central Java Province as a case study. To estimate disaster waste in Central Java, this study developed an index system as a basic model. It is about basic comparison of disaster waste generation in all central java regencies or cities. Disaster waste is associated with total disaster events. This study utilized GIS tools to express model and system. This study developed of regional model disaster waste estimation in Central Java, divided by 3 sub decades. Study result shown that in first decade 1990-1999 the highest index of disaster waste estimation is Brebes Regency. Second decade 2000-2009 the highest index of disaster waste estimation is Semarang Regency and the third decade 2010-2018 the highest index of disaster waste estimation in Cilacap Regency. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The Southern Trans-Java Route (Jalur Jalan Lintas Selatan – JJLS) infrastructure development is a national program that goes through five provinces in the island of Java, namely the provinces of East Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, West Java, and Banten. In Yogyakarta, the Southern Trans-Java Route (JJLS) cuts across three regencies, which are Gunungkidul Regency, Bantul Regency, and Kulonprogo Regency. This research selected locations in Jetis Village, Saptosari District, Gunungkidul Regency, Gadingsari Village, Sanden District, Bantul Regency, and Sindutan Village, Temon District, Kulonprogro Regency for its study. The aims of this research are to analyze price changes that occur. The research method employed in this study is the qualitative descriptive analysis method. The villages set as study locations were determined by purposive method and data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with informants who understand the issues relevant to the research objectives. Based on the acquired study results, the highest change in land price took place in Sindutan Village. A significant increase in land price occurred.

Sanitation and challenges in sustainable urban water management

Water and good sanitation are essential elements to support human health. Unfortunately, the fulfillment of clean water and sanitation needs has not been fully implemented in several parts of the world. Sanitation development in Indonesia refers to the Sustainable Development Goals, which in 2030 are targeted to ensure the availability and sustainable management of clean water and sanitation for all communities. The problem in this study is to determine community participation in its contribution to achieving SDGs (6) goals in the use of public toilet facilities built from local government budgets in a sustainable effort in the SANIMAS program in Bandung City West Java. The research results that have been carried out show that the use of shared toilet facilities requires participation from the community and the increasing number of residents in each urban area. Policies from the government can anticipate problems in the future, and there is a need for collaboration between the government, the private sector, and the community by paying attention to the environment both for the sustainability of water reserves from dug wells and the use of technology that can prevent river water pollution in the city, as well as the sustainability of the sanitation program for all public.

The real-time warning for flash floods represents one of the major challenges for monitoring centers and civil defenses due to the short time frame in which such phenomena occur. That situation often takes place particularly in mountainous regions where high slope rate favors an increase in the velocity of the water flow and it might generate conditions to impact the water level due to potential for provoking erosion, landslides, and debris flow. An initial one new and unique prototype of hydrometeorological relationship for real-time, site-tunable, water level for flash flood prediction is presented. Time variations of the reflectivity measured by horizontal polarization radar are evaluated and correlated to generate the local estimate of the elevation of the Quitandinha River water level for the next hour. The proposal of this relationship is not intended to act as a simplified hydraulic model but to characterize if a critical elevation of the water level could be obtained from the radar reflectivity data and consequently whether the flash flooding event should be expected. We verified that the proposed relationship that tended to underestimate the water level peaks, however, qualitatively was initially able to indicate if a flood event could occur or not in the next hour. The expectation related to this initial relationship is to improve the obtained results in order to be used as a tool for decision-making in relation to the issuance of warnings delivered by environmental monitoring centers. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG part of Springer Nature.

Considering the significant thermal influence green spaces have on built environments, this paper aims to present the results of a data-driven analysis to identify statistically significant spatiotemporal trends of green heat losses and surface temperature increases in the urban area of a small municipality. The Brazilian municipality of Feliz was selected for the case study. Landsat-5, Landsat-7, and Landsat-8 images were used to identify Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) cold spots and Land Surface Temperature (LST) hot spots. A data mining tool was employed to identify emerging physical patterns, making it possible to highlight areas where increases in temperature might be associated with specific characteristics of built environments. The urban area presents a particular dynamic, where specific persistent LST hot spots can be associated with historical or diminishing NDVI cold spots. Additionally, LST hot spots, which contribute towards the formation of new urban heat islands were found to correspond to 10% of the detectable emerging patterns in the urban areas. It is expected that the present spatial analysis, by highlighting priority areas for intervention, could provide information to decision-makers and urban planners that would assist in the reorientation of urban occupation, thus contributing to more sustainable and efficient urban planning. © 2022, The Authors. Thermal and physicochemical analyses of DSS for application in combustion process

The increasing production of sewage sludge (SS) necessitates innovative treatment methods for improved management and energy recovery. Due to its high contaminant levels, improper disposal of SS poses environmental and health risks. This study examines the thermochemical properties of dry sewage sludge (DSS) from rotary drum dryer over one year to evaluate its combustion feasibility and energetic potential. DSS samples collected from November 2022 to October 2023 underwent proximate and ultimate analysis, lower heating value (LHV) assessment, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Results indicated seasonal moisture variations, with the lowest (1.35%) in April 2023 and the highest (30.61%) in October 2023. LHV ranged from 9.24 to 13.17 MJ/kg, showing an inverse relationship with moisture content. Elemental analysis demonstrated favorable H/C and O/C ratios, supporting combustion potential. TGA identified the highest loss occurring in the second event (150 - 370 °C) due to the high volatile matter content. Ignition (T i ) and burnout (T b ) temperatures varied with heating rates and the higher oxygen levels (26.47 – 28.32%) enhances DSS reactivity. Kinetic analysis using Friedman, Ozawa-Flynn-Wall, and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose models determined apparent activation energy (E a ), with the latter method providing the best fit and the higher E a results (693.46 and 1051.89 kJ/mol). And the specific heat found were 1.87 and 1.73 kJ/kg K. These findings highlight DSS’s energy recovery potential and the impact of seasonal variations and heterogeneous composition on its combustion characteristics, contributing to more efficient sludge management strategies.

Potency of microalgae for animal feed and aquaculture feed: A short review

Animal feed production soared due to the increasing demand for fresh meat and fish. The high cost of animal feed production causes animal feed producers to look for more economical and environmentally friendly alternatives. Microalgae have the potential to add nutrients to animal feed and aquaculture feed because they contain high-value biomolecules. Bioactive compounds containing microalgae such as protein, carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), vitamins, and other compounds have been shown to improve feed efficiency and the quality of animal products. The contribution of microalgae to meet nutritional needs in animal feed/aquaculture is present in this review. The metabolism of microalgae produced during photosynthetic activity depends on natural conditions such as the location of cultivation, the possibility of contaminants in the culture, and their physiological response to biotic and abiotic factors, such as the availability of light intensity, temperature, pH, nutrients, and growth phase. The quality of microalgae biomass certainly affects the quality of animal feed. From various studies that have been carried out, several parameters can affect the efficiency and quality of animal products, including the amount of microalgae biomass added to the feed, the age of the animal, and the duration of feeding the animal.

Fabrication of silica-nypa membrane applied for water desalination

Carbon source as a template derived from nypa leaf powder enable to strengthen the silica matrix applied for water desalination. This research aims to synthesize silica-nypa membrane, characterize xerogel silica-nypa leaf and investigate the performance of silica-nypa membrane with various concentration of nypa as a carbon template to treat artificial sea water. The concentrations of nypa leaf as a carbon template are 0.1; 0.5 and 2.5 %wt with a calcination temperature of 350 °C through a rapid thermal processing (RTP) technique. Xerogel characterization using FTIR was employed to analyze a spectrum and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to investigate the membrane morphology. The result shows that the performance of silica-nypa membrane with water fluxes of 2.1915; 2.0163 and 1.1067 kg.m−2. h−1 (for 0.1; 0.5 and 2.5 %wt. carbon template derived from nypa leaf), and the salt rejection value for all concentrations.

Analysis of the need for the development of learning media for IOT-Based smart building installation systems

Learning media is a means of learning for students that can provide a real picture of real work that has a high risk if it is carried out directly. Learning media has a role in facilitating students to be able to experience it directly with minimal risk from a practicum. Analyzing the need for making learning media is very important for the development of real learning media. This study aims to: (1) Determine the need for the development of learning media for IOT-based smart building installation systems in Vocational High School (VHS); (2) Analyzing the needs used in the development of learning media for IOT-based smart building installation systems in VHS. The results showed that the things needed in developing IOT learning media were seen from the technology used in the form of (1) Software based on media interaction with the internet using a visual studio; (2) Arduino Uno, temperature sensor device, ESP8266, gas sensor and light sensor are needed as hardware to reflect building capabilities; (3) The cloud computing system uses spread sheets to store data; (4) Internet network for uploading and downloading data. In its implementation, a needs analysis for the development of instructional media is needed so that in the later development process the media is developed appropriately and on target. The results of research and development research using the ADDIE method need the development of learning media for IOT-based smart building installation systems in vocational high schools to improve the learning abilities of students.

Google COVID-19 community mobility reports: Insights from multi-criteria decision making

Social distancing (SD) has been critical in the fight against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). To aid SD monitoring, many technology companies have made available mobility data, the most prominent example being the community mobility reports (CMR) provided by Google. Given the wide range of research fields that have been drawing insights from CMR data, there has been a rising concern for methodological discussion on how to use them. Indeed, Google recently released their own guidelines, concerning the nature of the place categories and the need for calibrating regional values. In this work, we discuss how measures developed in the field of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) might benefit researchers analyzing this data. Concretely, we discuss how Pareto dominance and performance measures adopted in MCDM enable the mobility evaluation for (i) multiple categories for a given time period and (ii) multiple categories over multiple time periods. We empirically demonstrate these approaches conducting both a region- and country-level analysis, comparing some of the most relevant outbreak examples from different continents.
